I am afraid to tell people I am neurodivergent because I have many Christian friends who might try to pray it out of me. I don’t want to be neurotypical. I want to be who God made me to be, which happens to be someone with an atypical brain.

i have ADHD and Autism and i find my cognitive thinking speed if off the charts really high i find im able to think about multiple things at once and at a very fast rate for some reason for my age my i have a very high common sense and wisdom tho i am not modest i am not ignorant anyways couple that with my IQ of around 150 and it makes life very difficult my logical side and my emotinal side of my brain are very explosive when i am thinking fast i find if i use emotion my brain just spirals in a endless void of depression and pain i am the more i learn about my self i find everything that makes me highly intelligent also makes my life miserable i have horable life skills because of my condissions for somereson i have a very high sense of self i figured out on my own that i have ADHD and Autism C-ptsd borderline and OCD anyways i am wondering if u can give me a reason or somthing of that matter to explain what u think about what ive said from what i understand to recap my brain speed is faster from the ADHD there for speeding up how fast i think and analyze and the autism increasing my IQ by simply inflicting challenge that i am having to constantly overcome do u have any other recorded cases of something like this i found that taking 2 omega 3s a day helped a lot it improved everything from reaction time to memory to my ability to focus i know becuase of my more logical state i have a tendency to be a little narcissistic anyways bye

Another comerbidity is a gene mutation mthfr. The body is unable to flush toxins and chemicals. Can not process folic acid. Ssris antidepressants can have a negative effect. The simple test at gp is your homocysteine levels and if they are off look into the gene mutation.

Another thing is I don't agree with Sandra in long acting medication being best because we might forget to take it if we take short acting medication we have more steps to forget (bring them with us, have water with us, take them) more often. If we forget to take the long acting one early enough, we will struggle to fall asleep even more at night. We will not take them some days just because we want to have enough sleep at times. Maybe a combination of a lower dose of long acting one combined with short release ones might work better. Not my idea the combination but the explanation it is.

Like much of psychology- I’d like to know if much of these analyses are based on hypotheticals rather than proven science. Are we still making educated guesses or have some successful biological studies been done on the brain and not simply observations? I feel like so many of these people have been test subjects and rather than just leaving it to be managed through medications for ( ADHD) but also looking at diet such as additives, missing nutrients, or exposure to environmental pollutants or other types of antigens.

Great video ! I am very hypersexl and like to have sex every day when with someone. When it comes to sex I can get completely overwhelmed and can be too full on. I want to do everything I can to make the other person happy. I don't even really care about myself at this point. I do this in the hope they will like me if I make them happy especially if I really like them and want to be with them. I get a massive dopamine hit from touching and have to calm myself down or I am like a hyperactive bunny. I have to stay focused on what is happening and stay calm not start to day dream/worry about everything else like am I doing this right ?? Are we boyfriend/girlfriend now ?? Does she like me ?? Would she like breakfast in bed tomorrow ?? I have to not lose focus on the moment and focus on what is happening right now !! I find having the lights on is a must for me or my mind wander off and starts thinking about other things and just goes into a sort of auto pilot. I thought it was just a male thing for years as guys are very visual people I read. But after I was diagnosed with ADHD it makes so much sense now with the out of sight thing. I just wish I had known years ago. I wonder what my life would have been like 😢.

I'm diagnosed with ADHD and in the past year or so I've been wondering if i actually also have ASD. I strongly relate to the folks who are diagnosed with both and describe their experience. Not as much as with either one of them alone. But the story about 12yo Sam sounds exactly like me. I don't understand why some people take it as offence when im trying to help, so i decided to stop doing it altogether and only continue it for those who i care about the most. I still have a lot of problems with my mom though who keeps forgetting that I'm so annoying to her because i care so much about her, not because I'm just toxic and like to hurt her. It sucks so much energy from me but i just can't let her slowly destroy her life and not do anything. I definitely need a professional advice on how to deal with this optimally.

The worst thing about adhd is the stigma, 90% of the world doesn't think it is real 😡autism hasn't got the same stigma but the majority of people don't understand anything about them or the problems of the comorbid disorders accosiated with them (how can they understand) and if u add up adhd + autism = epidemic or a quarter of the world on the spectrum, it's easier for the powers to be to leave people struggling to even get diagnosed and no services. How many people are suffering? and if they could understand what is wrong with themselves (especially if they are undiagnosed)and could move on with there lives , how many people are kept down? Going round in circles, being impulsive with an addictive personality, depressed and misunderstood, stressed about there own futures a lot can't hold down jobs and even turn to crime because of this it's estimated 80%of people in jail could have it (canada screens people entering jail and have seen a reduction in people diagnosed with adhd entering the system and repeat offending)the sickening part of it that is if they invested the money in helping people understand about these problems it would pay for itself, and a lot of people could be living happier lives, there could be less crime, addiction etc

It is so hard. I was gifted and high iq so made it through childhood relatively unscathed apart from internal struggle of not being able to do basic stuff and can do complex stuff. As an adult even though I was awarded top student for my Masters degree that year I have struggled along with many chronic and degenerative illnesses despite my qdapive strategies that used to work before I was very it has meant a huge amount of heart break in terms of effects on relationships and work and isolation with no human contact.

Yes true Autism can range in severity. That’s not why Autism is a spectrum though. The doctor isn’t quite right on that. It’s a spectrum because of the wide range of ways it can manifest. *How* it manifests determines severity.

Remember to validate the ASD person's thoughts and feelings, BEFORE telling them how they can **reduce the chances** of negative interactions like the one of the boy who was attacked in the halls. Validate that those students were WRONG to attack him, as well as **responsible for their own feelings** of embarrassment about their test performance compared to the ASD student. Focusing only on what the ASD person can change, or what they should've intuited, leads to hypervigilance about every social interaction and what might be unintentionally conveyed.
@UnburiedTalents
@UnburiedTalents 4 ай бұрын
The kid mentioned at minute 56, who was attacked by a group in the halls for sharing that he'd found a quiz to be easier than his classmates found it, was simply sharing a different opinion. He lives in a world that doesn't exist, but SHOULD, where everyone is free to share their own thoughts and opinions. He's being told by neurotypicals, "Can't you see how that MAKES others feel?" but the neurotypical students are JUST AS BLIND. They used their NT knowledge of how to administer emotional pain when they deliberately attacked him! You can't ONLY work with the ASD person and ignore the social education needs of the NT's around them.

About the case study, Justin, at minute 36, it said nothing about dealing with his perfectionism (a form of black-and-white thinking), and his associated sensitivity to criticism. It just said meds and teachers' help got him A's and B's. Something's missing.

Wow...only medication helps? Has he not heard of the brain rewiring game systems, Play Attention or Endeavor RX (or Endeavor OTC, the free one for adults)? Play Attention was designed by NASA to improve focus for astronauts. When people with ADHD have played these games for awhile, then stopped playing for 6 months, when they return to playing the game, their scores remained the same. It proves permanent brain change. Endeavor RX is more new, and it doesn't use direct biofeedback the way Play Attention does. Play Attention was classified as an educational tool (when it's actually a biofeedback system in the form of a game), whereas Endeavor RX jumped through the hoops to be classified as a medical tool, so it can be covered by insurance.

As a person diagnosed with ASD and ADHD I can certainly say that showing empathy is awfully hard! But the amount of emotions we are feeling under the surface is overwhelmingly hard to manage. My concern is how scientists analyse people with those characteristics may be somewhat wrong. Specially women.

What about Post menopausal women? What is adhd like for them? Should they be on HRT too? I was on HRT in peri- menopause and had undiagnosed ADHD since childhood. I also knew I have had depression and seasonal affective disorder. I felt the HRT helped with my depression and ability to sleep, and maybe somewhat with the adhd I did not know about. Because of the adhd it sounds like I would have been a lot worse off with out the hormones. Now possibly in post menopause my hormones have dropped of even more, so I am probably more vulnerable to My adhd symptoms. I am on an estradiol patch and progesterone and I am curious if I should be also be looking into testosterone too. I just got diagnosed with adhd a few weeks ago because I am suffering huge burn out and paralysis. I am currently on generic adderall and the first day was a revelation at least socially, still not sure of everything else yet. I am sure I need more support than just the drugs. I have a psychiatrist that diagnosed me, so perhaps I will get the support I need. I also want to say that HRT is not well supported in the U.S. anymore so I am considered an un unusual patient to still be on them. My quality of life is important to me so that is why I have insisted staying with them. (I am not a doctor, so do not consider them without your doctors weighing on the decision.) I have begun sitting regularly in front of my light box again and hoping it has a positive effect to. I do not take antidepressants, but was prescribed them in the past, I felt they do nothing and one even caused suicidal thoughts, so I went of. I have learned since my diagnosis that Wellbutrin helps with adhd, but when I was on that one I felt headache and brain fog, I went off it. Maybe dosage was too high, but I was so frustrated with not improving on antidepressants, I wanted to quit them all together. Some of my problem now could have really been the adhd, I am hoping that is true and I can start getting improving now. I am so sad that I have learned this all so late, I am a 58 year old women.

I am wondering if you could offer any advise for when the progesterone only pill (cerrelle) appears to have stopped working after being on it aprox 8 years. I recently experienced horrendous and prolonged PMDD and have been on my period now several weeks so I have an appointment to change my pill. I can only take the progesterone pill due to Bilateral PE's. I am 40 with a diagnosis of ADHD and ASD. I already take an SSRI. I am hoping a change to a different progesterone only pill will stop my periods again and thus control my symptoms! I am in the UK where it appears hormones and ADHD are very little understood. Thank you for sharing.

There are computerized tests that are valid and reliable that test for ADHD, the TOVA and Conners being the ones I used for diagnosis in addition to written histories and extensive verbal assessment. One assessment alone doesn't give you enough information but if there are 3 or more indicators present a more accurate diagnosis is highly probable.

Most of us are unemployed or low wage earners. The system stops us from being diagnosed for 6 hrs and then treated by another higher paid non bulk billing Dr. The treatment may not work as the pills are designed for children. Im just going to a cheaper psychiatrist and getting zanax as they stop me racing and I can think clearer. I can't afford a couple of grand for someone less intelligent than me to diagnose me.

My life is madness. I can't remember anything. I rush around all day and might have to return to the supermarket twice. I live by doing the chores i see, as i see them. Everything is out on the benches and tables because its gone if i put it away. I always have a sense of urgency ;have i forgotten something? I can't eat very much as i forget to do it or run out of time to cook. I forget to drink water. Im dead on my feet all the time except at night. Im really lonely because I need to talk to intelligent people but have difficulty remembering names of the subjects im referring to like authors and artists. The thing that sets me off into a rage is questions being fired at me one after the other and borderlines that never stop talking to hear a word of wisdom. I read people very well, so well, I see a lot of ugly things in them and it makes it hard to love them. I actually hate the human race as a whole. I see things amiss amongst 200 people who didn't see anything. I am impatient with people who don't see what's in front of them. Yet I get along with all other people who have autism and adhd perfectly.

I sometimes wonder if ASD and ADHD type personality traits, which often co-occur in many people, might actually represent a much evolutionary older form of 'normal' in human behavior. If you think about it, in their higher functioning manifestations, these traits can be quite advantageous in the natural environment. The love of repetitive motion and routine (ASD) could have been harnessed for all sorts of adaptive technological things like spinning wool, grinding corn, gathering nuts and seeds, or making stone tools, whereas the ability to be hyperactive, quick and impulsive, and notice changes in finer details of the environment (i.e. distractions within ADHD) could have been clearly an asset in tracking and hunting. Only once cities and civilizations were built upon the backs of these hard-working and talented people, would the evolution of neurotypical traits and social politics become more useful. Has anyone out there ever seen any academic study of this idea? I would love to see a video exploring this possibility. BTW - I am a biologist by training, not a psychologist.

You're hitting near the mark. IMO society is sick not these people who are recently labelled dysfunctional or subnormal (it's a very recent phenomenon). Psychiatric labels are harmful IMHO and teachers should be more focused on the individual and their individual learning needs than expect everyone to learn the exact same way (and then label those who don't mentally subnormal). -someone labelled ADD as a kid who rejects such labels for many reasons.
