What a wonderful interview, thank you so much! I love people who connect the dots. ❤️ Love from a 50-year-old AuDHD woman, who gets her official autism diagnosis denied, cause her ADHD part makes her seem to be „too socially competent“ to be autistic. (Have been told exactly this 1 month ago in 2024 by a psychologist after a waiting period of over 2 years for assessment, while my kid was diagnosed AuDHD this year and having both explains every damn second of my whole life … 😂)

My deepest sympathy for the all-too-common CRAP you’ve been put through, due to being neuro-divergent. I’ll soon be 70, and am still struggling ; it’s exhausting!

This episode has been so insightful! The connection between the microbiome and neurodiversity makes so much sense to me. I’m currently waiting for my ADHD assessment and recently diagnosed with IBS after years of gut problems and since I’ve been managing my gut health I’ve noticed a slight difference in my ADHD symptoms. Carbohydrates in the evening has definitely helped me with my sleep. Resting in the afternoon, staying off my phone/laptop and choosing not to overwhelm myself with a busy diary are how I regulate. Getting out in nature, even for a 10 minute walk does absolute wonders for my brain! I’m starting to like myself a lot more now (I’m 52) and all my little weird and wonderful ways! ☺️ Miguel, you are adorable and so inspiring. Can’t wait for your book!

if you have a restrictive diet: common in autism; any experimentation away from 'safe' foods is guaranteed to temporarily cause digestive inflammation. This negatively reinforces against experimentation, and you go back to the old habits of eating the same 'safe' foods you know and love. I can see how that would become a self fulfilling prophecy, a battle in your own mind wanting a diverse healthy diet but trying to avoid diarrhoea.

This is likely also linked to food-preferences.. many Neurodiverse children, myself included, are Picky eaters. Either preferring crunchy foods or averse to crunchy foods. Carb-heavy, Meat-averse, there is a variety of food "phobias" as well.. texture or smell or even colours. And then :MSG!! People under-estimate how Shhhhhtt you can feel when you have eaten MSG! It took me absolutely YEARS to figure out that it was messing up my gut health, making my muscles cramp, my stomach cramp, even vomiting when having too much. People with Neurodiversity MUST avaoid flavourants etc in foods!

I love how he's framing medicating kids. I started meds at 12 and am 28 now. I am glad i had them but of course I can't know what the other path would have been like. But I will say, PLEASE listen to your kid! Listen to what they say about how the meds make them feel. I had a classmate who hated being on them and wouldn't take them and it came out that her mother started sneaking the drugs into her food yo trick her into taking them - that is not ok! I feel that would be obvious but apparently not to that mom. I know she meant well but if your kid is having side effects and doesn't want the meds look into other meds or other solutions.

Adderal made me FULLY psychotic and violent. I had kids at home as a single Mom , it was hell. When I called to tell the Nurse" these pills will cause me more harm than good " She said " You are the first person to call and say that , it is the most prescribe drug out there " As autistics with cocurring issues ( Epilepsy , ADHD , Autism , Trygyminal neuralgia ) you have to be careful , our brains are so different , and should be aloowed to be so !!!

Have you researched thyroid? Stop the Thyroid Madness website is informative on both adrenals and thyroid. I take a very small dose of thyroid hormone T3, only two doses a day of 5 mg. It made a huge difference in fibromyalgia pain I’ve had for 30 years. Didn’t eliminate, but cut it down a lot. If my adrenals were in better shape,,maybe gone. There are many root causes for things. Have to explore.

I would suggest a new term or concept in terms of Autism "treatment" or "prevention" be introduced to scientific literature. It would have to be a term that encapsulates the fact that autism is a physical difference , which provides direct challenges to the people who are autistic. The extent and or difficulty to overcome those challenges is made either easier or made more difficult by FACTORS (such as gut balance, such as school environment accommodations or lack there of, such as exercise or lack thereof, sleep ability, trauma, emotional support, emotional abuse, high anxiety, feeling excluded, feeling constantly critisised, etc etc). The challenges face by autistic and ADHD individuals can not be removed , but they can be BUFFERED. By suport such as social skills training, emotional co-regulation, Pro-biotic and Pre-biotic suppliments, feeling included and Loved... etc.

It is incredible, on the latter part of the debate, how eugenism is only alluded to as "the dark side" and "the wrong hammers in the wrong hands". It's a horrifying threat and it feels the scientists have like this vague idea that "all this prediposition imaging stuff could go wrong, just my hunch" while I'm so lucid that I'm almost begging the political words would come out but... we neurodivergent just... can't _imagine_ how *_mean_*_ people_ can ever be, even after being bullied and ostracized, because a lot of us have difficulty modelizing _why_ neurotypicals are so mean, why are they making us do tests to reveal the "monster" in us, only for us to realize those tests were deliberately rigged to exploit what they judge in us as flaws. I am excited about the fantastic advances of neuroscience in the domain of mental health as it could lead to higher understanding of how neurodivergences work, but also the understanding of the pathology of neurotypicality and how the latter is abused to fit narratives enabling extreme normative behaviors, to better contain or heal those behaviors ; but I'm also very worried that said behaviors could be enabled by certain scientific approaches like genetics, which give eugeniticists and assorted //very mean// people uncomfortable amounts of dopamine. We, whether concerned, allied and/or observant people, at all levels of science, racing so that human curiosity and conquest instinct doesn't doom neurodiversity to extinction. I'm also very annoyed at how fibromyalgia (and spasmophilia) are indeed "incurable", probably because of exceedingly poor research on those pathologies. It's like with venerian diseases, they concern a very large amount of people, have strong disabling effects, it'd make life so much better for those who'd be treated, yet it looks almost untouched by the worries of... whoever currently leads research, and I have that sad feeling of knowing why that is.

If you have not been breast fed from birth, deprived of colostrum or been born by cesarean you have to expect these autoimmune disorders to affect you. Nutritional ketosis, grounding and natural light are a few of the only holistic treatment that fits with human physiology, not meds for kids.
@MWear-x8tАй бұрын
I have a crap microbiome, could not produce a drop of milk and my daughter was born into this world with no colostrum, colonized by my unhealthy microbiome and then given 6 months of antibiotics the first year of her life (because she had multiple surgeries). I had no idea at the time that there were probiotics for babies. I also didn't know that other people could "donate" bugs to new babies. I would have had milk donated, and had people who were really healthy kiss and handle her when she was new born and I would have given her probiotics had I known. I did know not to give her sugar when she was little. Anyway, she has some adhd, but is healthy and doing really well, thank goodness. She has to eat well.

I have to say I did this with my son. I controlled my blood sugar during pregnancy, he was breastfed until 3 1/2+, he ate whole low carb foods, healthy fats and protein but he is still the most severe of all my kids. He was an early talker. Everything regressed between 12 and 2. He stopped talking and became floppy and fatigued and emotional all the time.Using gestures instead of language. That said though I see what others feed their kids and his behaviours.and moods are much more stable than other kids in his neuro divergent class where they eat processed carbs, low protein, no real nutrition. Sugar for my kids, seems to have the greatest effect. We went sugar free with my eldest (who was a different child when having sugar and who now has been diagnosed after a younger sibling). I think this led to her not being diagnosed until she was older.

Hi there. Would it be possible to do an episonde on HSPs (highly sensitive people) who are not autistic. HSP seams to be similar to sensory processing disorder. It generally overlaps with autism, but not always. There is a subgroup of autistic people who actually don't have sensory processing disorder and HSPs who are not autistic. I believe that some people who are suffering in the world due to sensory issues, but are not autistic run into trouble because they don't get an autism diagnosis, yet have a large chunk of the symptoms.
