Hi Cathy! A helpful tip I use for Disulfiram is: "A patient will feel like they are dying, if they drink alcohol while taking Disulfiram due to the very unpleasant reaction that occurs"

why would you give beta blockers for ETOH withdrawal? Wouldn't their BP be low already?
@LevelUpRN3 жыл бұрын
ETOH withdrawal leads to hypertension and tachycardia, including potentially lethal cardiac rhythm disturbances, which is the reason beta blockers may be required!

@@LevelUpRN I'm on Concerta 54mg. It works 8-10 hours. What happens if I take it twice a day, is there a risk for poisoning or withdrawal symptoms? I find I sleep well with 36mg of concerta(works only 4 hours🙁) because it blocks out the constant stream of thoughts/ideas at night. My psychiatrist is bad, but I will try to get in contact with him again. I hope he doesn't ignore questions, because I think 54mg might be too high a dose for me. I want to ask him if there is a lower dose like 36mg that lasts 10 hours or more so that I don't have to deal with my ADHD symptoms.

Am I the only one who finds it a bit strange that we treat substance abuse by just giving people similar drugs to what they were already taking? I mean I think its strange because we act like they are totally different things.. "oh your addicted to heroin? No heroin's bad, we'll put you on methadone instead".. seems like there should be a search for drugs which work to reverse the neurological adaptations that have occurred from prolonged substance use, rather than just giving patients drugs which reinforce these changes. Treatment for addiction to opioid agonist: opioid agonist, treatment for addiction to nicotine agonist: nicotine agonist, treatment for alcohol addiction: GABA agonist

Dont Njoy Alcohol! (Disulfiram, Naltrexone, Acamprosate) Use Nurse Cathy's tip to remember Acamprosate, and the following for the others MOAs: You will DIe (from how bad you feel) if you drink alcohol while taking Disulfiram, Just say "Na" to alcohol while on Naltrexone cause you wont have any cravings.
@Nugget7_7 Жыл бұрын
Acamprosate helps compensate. NAltrexone (NAh more cravings). Disulfiram = Deterant.
