Adidas Adios Pro 2 vs Adidas Takumi Sen 8: Which Adidas racing shoe should you get?

The Adidas Adios Pro 2 and Adidas Takumi Sen 8 are both top-notch racing shoes, with midsole that contain a lively, lightweight foam and novel tech in the shape of a small carbon plate at the heel and Adidas propulsive EnergyRods in the forefoot. On the face of it, the Takumi Sen 8 simply looks like a stripped back Adios Pro 2, with a lower stack and lighter design overall, making it better suited to shorter distance events like 5Ks and 10Ks.
However, the two shoes have quite different feels on the foot, and both are actually good options for race of al distances, even if the Adios Pro 2 skews towards longer stuff. Run Testers Kieran and Nick have tested out both shoes extensively and in this video they give their take on the pros and cons of each shoe.

I initially hated the Takumi Sen, but as I wore it in and persisted with it, I now love it! Ran a pb in 5km and 10km. I do find it pretty unstable in some road races where there are some technical windy sections. I do find 10km is a bit of a stretch for this shoe. But brilliant on gun barrel straight runs.

thank you for the nice review. i use both the shoes and i find the takumi fun and fast, but not with tired legs, in that case i prefer the adios pro2 more comfortable, but also for marathon pace long run much more appropriate. i tried both shoes half size down and i think i like it, the adios pro2 after 100k it opened up a bit and my feet had a bit too much room to have a perfect lock down. Anyway both shoes are really amazing, we are really lucky so many fun and fast shoes are coming out. i feel i don't even get close to their limit, at my max pace the shoes are just laughing at me :)

Thanks for this great video. So useful as usual. I used to run my half marathons with the Adios Pro 1 but for the next one I really hesitate between these ones and the Takumi Sen 8 that I am running currently for my track sessions. I run usually half marathon in 1h25min, what would be your recommendation? Adios Pro 1 or Takumi Sen 8?

I must say, never forget the Sen 7! If you can find it in your size, it's absolutely a great pickup. Best Adidas shoe ever IMO, close with the Adios Pro 2

Thank you for the review and great/helpful comparison! I appreciate the stack height is not everything and you mentioned that TS8 is not ideal for Marathon, but TS8 has pretty much same/similar stack heights to Endorphins and Metaspeed Sky, how does TS8 stack up to them?

Good Q! I (Nick) think the Metaspeed Sky has a better foam for the marathon, bit bouncier and I’ve loved going long in that shoe. The Sky is a great, versatile racer all round. The Takumi I think I prefer to the Endorphin Pro as a slightly punchier ride. Endorphin Pro maybe bit harsh for a marathon too, Speed maybe better in fact for me

Got a pair of sen 8 in my rotation(invincibles vaporfly PrimeX)great first impressions.I want to run now even if my calves are not in the same idea.I suffer too much front foot running.I guess I need to grow back some muscles that are not used to hard work.

Having got err 2 pairs of AA pro & AA pro2 I think I have enough stock of fast for now. However Nick whats the Terrex jacket like you are wearing ?

Great review and comparison. I’m definitely preferring the AAPro2 over the VaporflyN%2 for longer distance stuff (10miles and above). Much more stable and comfortable, whilst still fast. Not sure I NEED the TS8, but still want to try it!

Thanks for the review Guys. Currently running 5K to 10K in the Adidas Adizero Pro's but finding them a little flat towards the end of a 10K. This is probably more to do with my old legs but wondered if the Takumi Sen 8's would be a better option?

I’m looking for a 5k/10k racing shoe and deciding between Takumi Sen 8 and Vaporfly, any suggestions? I like that the Takumi is a bit less bulky, I’m used to soccer cleats so I don’t need much shoe, but the vaporfly is tried and true. Do you have an opinion over which would be a better racer? Thanks

Enjoyed the video. Running first marathon in a few months.. would you go endorphin pro 2 or adiós pro 2 (Nike big dogs a bit expensive for me) Or anything else around that kind of max £180... any advice appreciated

Personally I (Nick) would use the Adios Pro 2 of those, I find it more comfortable for the long distance events, and just as fast

Thanks. I (Nick) would be pretty much equally happy in any of those three for an all-out 5K. Maybe just prefer the Vaporfly, just because all the other runners with you will be in it!

Have u not found the lateral bias of the Pro 2 to be problematic like many people?

Both great and fast shoes, but are way too narrow through the entire foot. I had blisters everywhere after one short tempo run to test them.
