I feel like the weight scoring needs fine tuning. You seem to be all over the place and quite random sometimes. I expected this shoe to get a good score. People use the Vaporfly for 5ks and 10ks too, and the takumi has similar stack to the originally 4% so you could run a marathon in it, people just expect thick shoes now. I think you should also include how heavy the shoe “feels” on foot. Sometimes you give poor scores to heavy shoes with bouncy foam that don’t feel heavy at all. Just my 2 cents

I own these and I like them a lot. I've been running for decades and this is a special shoe. These scores make it seem like a middling offering from adidas. I have no brand loyalty. I've run in nike, adidas, asics, hoka, new balance, etc. I've run in all of those in the last two years. This is an amazing shoe. If you run somewhat fast (under 8 min/mile), and you regularly run at least a 5K distance you should try these. They are special and there is a buzz about them for a reason.

I'm with the crowd here, weight is perfect when matched with performance IMO. The shoes you put in the same category are heavier, two of which are pricier, and lack the performance of the Addidas shoe. They are not similar at all. Low score for a bit of kit that'll get lots of people personal bests. (If they upgrade from the fuel cell or magic speed 😉) Addidas need to sort out the uppers and lacing for sure, but I think that would make a really good performance shoe better. The review here makes it out to be a poor offering, which it certainly isn't in my opinion. All the best , look forward to the next review.

Finding myself agreeing with lots of the comments re: scoring. For many reviews it feels like the scores seem arbitrary, or lacking context & research. Even comparing in the 5K/10K flat category, many comp shoes are around the 6.0 oz mark in sz.9: NewBalance Hanzo, Nike Streak (pick a version), Saucony Type A9, as well as most previous version of the Takumi. The Reebok Floatride Run Fast Pro that is mentioned is a major outlier at 4.0 oz (so suppose that was a 10/10). The only comp I can think of closer to 4.0 oz is the NB 5280 that's at 4.8oz (and advertised as a miler shoe) or the Skechers GOrun Horizon Vanish 2 at 5.2 oz. The Floatride was also $250US. The similar shoe comps at the end are all half/marathon races or "tempo day" style trainers, and not 5K/10K flats. It's this discrepancy that's jarring. Like many have shared, I'd love to see some reviews without any scoring. There's really no firm point of reference so it's impossible to judge or compare scores between reviews. Otherwise happy to see some Adidas reviews (even if I disagree): it's good to see some more discussion around them in general.

Adidas has a great line up...if you train consistently in them you will understand the rotation better and appreciate more: - Adistar: long easy slow run, legs superfresh - Boston 10: long fast finished runs or long runs with fartlek in the middle, legs superfresh. - Adios 6: tempo/Interval training. - Takumi Sen 8: 5-10k race day, some track intervals. - Adios Pro 2: HM - full marathon race day.

Executive summary - I don't like adidas shoes. Otherwise I am puzzled how anybody can do a "full review" of a shoe marketed as a 5K/10K racer with no apparent work at those paces but instead footage of cautious easy running on icy roads. From my own tests I can certainly run at those race speeds no problem and compared well to the marathon racers (NEXT%2, Adios Pro 2) and even yes the Prime X. These days (at aged 55) I think though I just prefer the more "bouncy" rides in the marathon ones. IMHO then it is a good option if you prefer something bit firmer and bit lower to the ground feeling although compared to traditional flats lot more forgiving. I think we are spoilt these days.

Seth, I got to say that your reviews haven't changed for the better in the last few weeks and months. I'm not an adidas fan by any means, but what you crafted here just doesn't feel right to me - especially your comparisons to other models. For weight you are talking about the Next% and Metaspeed Sky - shoes that cost quite a bit more than the Takumi. For comfort the score seems to be completly subjective (which is fine), but you should probably note that those 5-10k racers NEVER are comfortable. Especially if you factor in the midsole - which you say you do - the Takumi probably has a comfort advantage over any of those classic racing flats. And then in your "other shoes to buy" section there is not even one 5-10k racing shoe?! You even mention the Fuelcell TC?! A shoe which weighs probably 50% more than the Takumi. I've watched all your videos for over 3 years now (I think), but I'm starting to skip the shoe reviews. Please try to focus on quality and the actual content and don't got overwhelmed by all the shoes companies are sending to you.

Haven't really commented on your videos but been your regular viewer for almost 3 years? But that rating system is getting a little bit sketchy. Weight for shoe which is literally capable for running full marathon 177 g, 6 oz range is 6/10? I think there has been a little bit misjudged for rating on that part imo. @timbrewer27052 жыл бұрын
I've got to say, your scoring system is extremely inconsistent and frustrating to work with. This shoe is lighter than all that you compared it to, yet you gave it a "low" weight score. But that's the other thing - I've watched dozens of these videos and you've never given a single attribute of a shoe a 10/10, and I've also never seen you go below a 3/10 for any attribute of a shoe, even when you've said a shoe is unusable for you because of how bad a feature is. Everything is either a 6/10 (bad), 7/10 (good) or 8/10 (great). There's not enough differentiation to actually make meaningful distinctions between shoes/qualities. This makes your whole scoring system unnecessarily arbitrary and, in my opinion, totally useless. I think your thoughts/comments on the shoes themselves are usually pretty good and you put a lot more miles in on the testing side than anybody else, which is a huge strength of your content, but the scoring system frustrates me so much every time I watch one of your reviews. Hope this comes across with the spirit it's intended with - I think your content could improve a lot with small tweaks and become a lot more helpful since you're already doing the hardest stuff very well.

I totally agree. I had great success last year with a PT treating my Achilles tendonopathy. As of now it's almost back to normal and 95% pain-free. I need to keep doing those exercises!

Yet another review where seth acts as if he knows better than designers with years of education and experience and that a company should feel honored to fly him out, give him the red carpet treatment, and listen to the demands of someone with zero practical experience in material engineering.

👍🏼👍🏼 Also the brands know what they’re doing. They COULD reduce the rubber volume on an outsole or slim down the collar padding THIS YEAR… or they can make some of those changes NEXT YEAR and market those improvements. No shoe is the absolute best they can do, they plan year over year upgrades and make sure to hit their price points along the way. They don’t want to sell you a shoe, they want to keep selling you shoes.

From the comments that I’ve seen, people have begun to obsess too much about the scores. The scores are an attempt to provide a level of objectivity. But they ultimately don’t matter. (Are you honestly not going to buy a shoe because Seth gave it a 6.7 instead of a 7.2?) The scores shouldn’t overshadow the things that Seth is saying-which tend to make sense but, as in any shoe review, is still just one runner’s opinion. But maybe I’m less concerned at the moment because I happen to agree with Seth in this particular review; I returned the Takumi Sen after one run.

Seth why not try a different kind of shoe review for just one vlog? Wouldn’t hurt anything. If it didn’t go well you could always go back to the scoring system you have now? Whatever you do the scoring system needs to be either eliminated and just give a review. Or simplified. Either a 1-5 or buy/ not buy. Right now it’s complicated and hard to follow. Maybe a vote through DGR how to change it?

Honestly don't understand why buy seems he's giving adidas a hard time, every shoe he has tested 2021/2022 has just been slated, I've heard the sen 8 Is meant to be pretty good buy I guess its just people's opinions. 👍

A common misconception about my job: Working at Mcdonald's people assume I'm not smart or trying the best I can to find a better career path. One time a customer told his son in front of me, at the cashier register, "See son this is why you need to attend College, so you don't end up like this loser in front of me. Who can't count my change" I couldn't respond back as I would get fired if I did. Couldn't tell him or his son I just needed a year more to finish my B.A., I'm working and going to school. So yeah that's one of the many misconceptions people have over fast-food restaurants employees.

relax guys. Seth has been reviewing shoes for years now. Sometimes he's on point, other times he's not. It's normal. The thing we should keep in mind is that all reviews are subjective. If he feels the shoe is not working for him or does not meet his expectations, then the score is low. Doesn't mean it's a bad shoe. It's just not a match for him. But we can take some notes from his reviews, how's the upper, how's the midsole, etc etc. If you think your run form, foot shape etc is not similar with Seth's, you can think for yourself how you imagine the shoe will fit your runs. I don't think Seth is biased (on purpose, at least). Maybe Adidas shoes in general are just not a match for him. Simple as that. Even Kofuzi in the past felt biased to nike shoes. He always gave nike shoes positive reviews... which is contradictory to me, as I don't match well with most Nikes (except for the epic react, love that shoe...). But still, I watch all kofuzi reviews (and many others) to get the general idea about the shoe, before deciding what shoes to buy. So, take the reviews as a subjective opinion from the reviewer, not a final judgement of the shoes.

Get rid of the scores. Just use the pain chart to rate the shoes at the end. Quantifying opinion is a lost cause.

Great review Seth! The Takumi Sen 8 is a fast shoe with great energy return and as you note I think its great for 10 -21K. But that's where the love ended as I found the shoe (as with most "super shoes") a bit heavy and not agile enough for a fast 5K Park Run with lots of sharp turns included on varying surfaces. Also as you note the laces on the Takumi Sen 8 tighten down too much and are difficult to easily adjust. The heel was also an issue - A bit "loosey goosey" and the shoe also tweaked my ankles causing achilles tendon problems on both ankles so all in all a disappointing no go purchase.

Lots of salty comments today! As someone who gets on well with adidas shoes, this is just how it is, shoes will work for some people and not others. Giving someone crap for explaining why something doesn't work for them just makes you look rude. If you try to view it from a different angle, this review will be super helpful for someone who has a similar foot and gait to Seth, if you've tried it and get on with it, just go on with your life instead of getting worked up.
@matthewledvina83232 жыл бұрын
I think shoetubers need to start saying whom the shoe will work for if it doesn’t work for them personally. Seth has a tendency to be overly dismissive of shoes that don’t work for him but overlooks the fact that the shoe could work for someone else. This review on the other hand is just objectively bad from every measurement and doesn’t make any sense as he doesn’t do any apples to apples comparisons with the shoe.

Dewa here: I don't really have a job right now, but a common misconception about being in high school is that high schoolers don't have a lot of stress and if they don't get their work done, they're just lazy. I have founds this is definitely not always the case. A few misconceptions about being a runner is that you are mainly uncoordinated! (And in my Dad's words, obsessive and narrow-minded.)

QD: Oh boy…I’m a graduate student studying English, and the misconception that an English degree is useless, that you just sit around and read old books without contributing anything to the world, is widespread to say the least. I think if we collectively stopped valuing things based on their capacity to make money, a lot of people would be much happier, and the world would be a better place in general…not that studying English is bad for making money! It’s actually full of opportunities! But money shouldn’t be the end goal. Unfortunately, most of us don’t have a choice in that department.
