Ed, I have to say your shoe game is on point! A lot of your KZbin colleagues talk and review shoes but you are one of the few that are really passionate about the ones that you like. Seth reviews them all, but sometimes it’s hard to tell what he really likes - with you, that’s not an issue and I appreciate that. You are spot on with the SL20. I have almost 300 miles in my SL20's. And they have been great up to about 16km. The only down-side have been my heels slipping a bit if I don't wear the right socks and tie the shoes very tight. But as you say, for longer runs the stack height in the fore foot is a bit limiting. For longer runs (like the last one I ran), I prefer it's bigger brother, Boston 9, which also has a bit boost under the fore foot while keeping a similar gait-cycle.

Cushioning is dying because sl20 is EVA foam based but Boston 9 has TPU boost foam under lightstrike. TPU foams are known to be far more durable and also not sensitive to temperature. Like plain EVA foam can get pretty stiff in cold training environment.

Good to see you hit the 100 mile mark in these, solebrother. I hit 123 miles (197k) in mine this morning (launch colorway and weight). I did not break out the .2 yet... I gotta earn that by putting in more time in my OGs. Are you weighing the shoes in the comparo or using the weights from the site? The site states 8.1oz for the OG and 8.8oz for the updated version. I'm looking forward to the initial thoughts. Examining my SL20.2: Built on same last as aPro Tongue is no longer partially gusseted Tongue is switched out to the Pro twins tongue Heel cup is shaped identical to the Pro twins heel The sewn/glued heel counter is now only an overlay Interior padding is more robust (daily trainer style) than aPro adidas didn't give this upper the adizero stripes Midsole is more robust (strike neutral) and seems a smidge softer Midsole shape is identical to the aPro sans the cutout for BOOST Outsole no longer includes the torsion system found in the adios and Boston Outsole grip sections are nearly identical to the touch points of the aPro "QUICKSTRIKE" sections are all rubberized as opposed to the aPro 'STRIKE on fabric adidas site claims SL20.2 weighs 249g while the aPro weighs 235g (US Men's size 9.5) At a glance, and considering all specs and details, the SL20 now serves as a relatively inexpensive training partner to the aPro (the OG runs more like a sturdy adios or Boston). So I'm interested to learn whether or not the update runs similar to the aPro. Question: Did adidas get closer to the end goal (training companion to aPro) with the .2 iteration of this Olympic year offering? ✌🏽🖤🏃🏽♂️
@Martha-fluterunner4 жыл бұрын
Hi Solebrother Amado. You have interesting observations here. I didn’t get on well enough with the SL20 to keep them whereas the Bostons seem to have been made for my feet. I hope the Boston 10 isn’t dramatically different than the 8 and 9. I’ve seen references to a rumor image on a Spanish site of a Boston 10 with a much higher stack midsole. I wouldn’t mind a little more forefoot stack but not at the cost of significant weight gain. And I’ll miss some Boost if they eliminate it completely. Saludos, Martha

That shoe is the shoe for the fast running, or racing(maybe?).The light strike form is an enhanced one to accelerate your running. Also the continental rubber is good for the durability. But note this. Sl20 is for neutral feet, for over-pronated please find the another stability shoes. I am waiting for sl20.2 in my country. In case of durability it is better than that of zoom pegasus turbo2, but for the elasticity of the running, I prefer the style of Pegasus turbo 2. If you have a chance to purchase sale, you can buy it, for if your feet is broad... better choose the another shoe. I recommend the running with this shoe but only those whose feet are fit. Remember, shoes are only for the consumption. Your feet are worthier than the shoes. I ran more than 150 km, and done 20km twice with this shoe.

do anyone have the issue of heel slippage without a tight heel lock?? felt that initially but it feels okay now
@EDDBUD4 жыл бұрын
No issues, one of the best lockdowns on foot. Sad they have ditched this nice simple style. :(
@randomting99644 жыл бұрын
yea on the 2nd version thought they could even cut off some weight off the heel but got the complete opposite.....

Would you recommend for a full marathon race day shoe?
@EDDBUD3 жыл бұрын
For the marathon something with a combination of cushion and stability with a superb upper. The Adizero pro or endorphin pro are both exceptional.

Edd I like a snug fit in my shoes and despite taking an 11 in sneakers I have been using 10.5 in running shoes all year. This has caused tendonitis 🙁🙁 Can I ask if you use same size in running shoes as you do casual? Or do you size up/down (adidas I've actually jumped up to 11.5!)
@EDDBUD4 жыл бұрын
Most brands I size up a half. 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️

Is this good for daily run?
@EDDBUD3 жыл бұрын
Might be too minimal for some people for daily stuff. Perfect for me though.

Took awhile for the SL20 to grow on me, but after a 20 mile or so break-in, I'm liking this shoe on the track. But only for track sessions. Mostly 100-800 yard strides. I'm far from a sprinter. Lightstrike still feels firmer than I'd like for most terrain. But it feels great on the nearby school's new track - just enough bounce to make the feet feel light. I tried the all-Boost adidas Adizero Prime on the same track and it felt squishy. But the SL20 feels just right on that slightly resilient synthetic track surface.

I'm thrilled this shoe worked for so many. Unfortunately, I found it to be very old school, and I don't mean that in a good way. My issue? Simply put, the ride is way too firm and lacks response. After you've tasted newer midsoles (Pebex, DNA Flash, etc) or even standard TPE (Boost), the SL20 just feels dated and honestly unnecessary. For alternatives in the bargain basement category, try any Reebok Pebex based shoe (Run Fast, Panthea, etc.) and you'll get a much smoother ride and more cushion. The SL20 felt like I had wood planks attached to the bottom of my feet. That said, it is a dynamite looking pair of kicks and will therefore move happily to my social wardrobe. YMMV.
