Truss Shares Her 'Wisdom' With Defeated Tories

Liz Truss has been piping up again, full of advice for her defeated party. But it might perhaps be best if the party who depends on elderly voters did not listen to someone who thinks people shouldn't be allowed to retire, or that boasts of removing funding for health and social care.

I'm always reminded about this worrying paragraph from the Telegraph -"In an age of social media, voters care less than ever about consistency. They want cheaper houses but no new development, greener policies alongside lower heating bills, tax cuts plus spending increases, lockdown handouts but not inflation. The candidate who promises these things will generally beat the one who insists that it’s complicated." But this is why the party are trying not to let the members vote for the leader again.

It is this this sliver of the conservative voting poulation that we have to thank for Truss and Johnson. I prefer not to be associated with them.

UK and Brexit. US and Trump, Desantis, Abbot, etc. France flirting with electing far right Putin apologists. The Philippines and Duterte encouraging mob “justice”. Netanyahu not caring that he’s being called out for war crimes. China has always been problematic, but Xi has almost single-handedly crippled China’s export economy with how hostile they are with foreign businesses and zero-Covid lockdowns. Why have so many counties been giving idiotic nationalists who destroy their economy and/or out-and-proud fascists?

Actually she was the only PM to at least try and break the shackles of low growth and over taxation .... she deserves a lot more credit than she is given. That is unless you like high taxes on low to middle income people and a stagnant economy .... we had the opportunity to break free from the big tax and even higher spending (with no increase in productivity from our services of course because the money is well an truly wasted before any of it sees the front line!) models the EU gave us .... but nooooo the remainer parliament made sure that the UK would not be competitive and would not be a tax haven outside Europe as the EU were sweating about .....

And on the issue of credit, she deserves absolutely non; not a great thinker, and has proven to be out of her depth in all positions she has had in the party. A total and utter waste of oxygen.

I mean she is right - increasing the pension age to 80 would mean far fewer pensioners so would cut the state pension bill considerably. And on the health and social care I assume that was the first stage of an incomplete policy. Had she stayed in power longer she would presumably have bought forward legislation to make it illegal for people to become ill thus also slashing NHS costs. And then to slash the costs of prisons, police and the justice system simply make it illegal for people to commit crimes ... oh, hang on ... errrr. Maybe this might need a bit more thought.

She is still the darling of the dodgy think tanks, which is probably why we are still hearing from her. You know those organisations that refuse to disclose their funding and who's spokespeople get very offended when people have suggested that they are shilling for big oil or tobacco or billionaires (but of course refuse to tell anyone who they represent). The same groups that have infiltrated most of the Tory party and somehow get spots on the BBC, LBC, Sky etc. even though they represent no one. They were the groups who hailed her mini-budget and are still pushing the same BS even though it so clearly failed (and was based on years of debunked and failed trickle down economic theory). They obviously have influence in the right wing papers and are still pushing her, I have seen the telegraph push similar nonsense that the Tories weren't far right enough and that is what the people really want. It just shows how desperately we need media reform, that these papers can push such nonsense propaganda pieces and we see these bonkers people represented on our media for a 'fair and balanced' viewpoint when one view point is the truth and represents common sense, experts, data, etc. but for 'balance' we have to see bat shit crazy theories from secretly funded think tanks and the media pretends this represents an alternative view and basically do little push back. Meanwhile genuine political parties like the Lib Dems, Greens, SNP etc. that have policies to improve people's lives and tackle the real issues get barely any air time, but we are hearing from the likes of Truss, Farage and these secret think tanks all the time.

She wouldn't get a job as a cleaner. Good cleaners are lovely people who have honesty and pride in what they do. Truss would blame dust and dirt on woke forces and blame everyone else for a job badly done. Did she achieve her ambition of abolishing the monarchy? Truss is nothing but a joke. Her constituents realised that, eventually.

Her catastrophic time as PM, combined with her refusal to acknowledge mistakes or change course, has made her a toxic figure in British politics Despite this colossal failure, she's still pushing the same failed ideas, showing she's learned absolutely nothing. She's become a symbol of Tory incompetence and detachment from reality. Her continued presence in politics is seen as an insult to the public's intelligence and a reminder of how quickly and thoroughly one person can trash an entire country's economy. She's not just unpopular; she's a political pariah who's become a punchline for governmental failure.

Part if the rationale for the elevation on the retirement age is the increasing life expectancy across the western world - meaning that people are living healthier, longer. The problem is - that the Tories hollowed out the state to such an extent that life expectancy across mlst of the UK has been dropping year-on-year for most people.

Truss almost bodyswerved the announcement of her constituency result at the election. When she finally showed, after leaving all the candidates and officials standing around like the proverbial spare pricks at a wedding, she had no rosette or party colours on and she avoided her own speech, which meant that all the other losing candidates had to miss out on theirs.

She's a true believer of free market capitalism, the kind that just assumes the market will provide for the public against all evidence. There's no hope of introspection from her, because that would require her to recognise the evidence that she has ignored throughout history.

@Turnipstalkspot on. Free markets are the best way to achieve the most out of the least. However when they are out of balance that’s when you get problems. Housing market is a prime example. We need more council houses to balance out the rental market and the rental market balances the mortgage market.

I love the fact that the Tories think that Badanoch -a woman that can pick a fight in an empty room, and the utterly demented frothing at the mouth lunatic Braverman are the best the Tories have to be their esteemed leader. And that half of them are so incandescently bright, they want to join Reform UK Ltd, to ensure they lose their seats.

As a newbie pensioner,i resent the Tories via the personal allowance. If Sunak and Hunt had knocked that up by even maybe another £1000,to about £13500,MAYBE more pensioners might have thought about voting for them..Instead they chose an insane policy of cutting Nat Ins.Which i think pensioners saw as robbing them to bribe working age people to vote for them. How did that go Rishi?
