Mrs. White Dog and I took a day off of work and hiked our Hornbecks into an Adirondack Brook Trout Pond. It was definitely an adventure and an awesome day! The weather was beautiful, the hikes in and out were "interesting", the solitude was amazing and the fishing was good!

I found in years of Adirondack brook trout fishing that lightweight telescopic rods with mini spincast reels were excellent for brook trout and easy to pack and carry. I even found a folding net that fir into a pants pocket.. Even small trout put up a fight on light tackle. If you prefer spinning rods and reels, they work too. You can cast a bubble with a fly or streamer attached. I can't tell you how many rod tips I broke bushwhacking when I used conventional rods.

The problem with any pond readily accessible by car and short hike is that the locals fish them out shortly after ice out.

My experience in a rubber boat on a pond trolling a muddler minnow, is that I could not get going fast enough to get the trout to bite. Perhaps a canoe would be fast enough.

If you go back to that pond just let me know and I'll tell you where the trail is that goes around the swampy area. I live about 5 miles from Lake George, I've fished that pond probably 30 times.
