Hello Mr Andrew. wish you the best and happy new year for you and all your relatives, I have a question please. The contraction forms in english are used only in spoken english as you always remind in many lessons but I've fount them used everywhere in many english lessons , tests even in a famous stories. this is an example for that from the midsummer night dream- by Shakespeare: 'Excellent!' he cried. 'I'll be very good at it, I'm sure. I'll make the audience cry at my sufferings, you can he sure of that.'
@CrownAcademyEnglish8 жыл бұрын
+nas nas Hello, happy New Year for 2016 to you and your family. It is a guideline, not a strict rule. It is a question of style, style and context. You can write the contracted form everywhere if you want, but I don't advise it at all. The contracted form is grammatically correct but it is not always considered appropriate. The guideline is *not* to use the contracted form in *FORMAL* written English. (English exams, academic essays, job applications, business documents) It is acceptable in *informal* written English and also spoken English. However your example is in fact spoken English! The words are inside quotation marks *" "* It is direct speech. They are the *exact* words that someone is *saying.* 'Excellent!' he cried. 'I'll be very good at it, I'm sure. I'll make the audience cry at my sufferings, you can he sure of that.'

Hercules possessed a strength the world had never seen - a strength surpassed only by the power of his heart.this phrase I've seen among hercules subtitles .Is it right to say surpassed or is surpassed and why? I think it is passive . Ed adjectives always come before nouns. I am confused.If also there is something wrong in my writing please tell me.

+Crown Academy of English Hi Andrew Thanks for your answer. With you, it's X'mas during all the year. My english is poor. My excuse : my teachers were not so very good !!! Hum hum !!! Is there in english some "abreviations" we found in french as "toujours" we write "tjrs", or "Bonjour"writing in "Bjr". It's a little bit lazyness, but nowadays, we shall go on faster and faster !!!!!!!!!! Joyeux Noël (Noyeux Joël, in a joke !) à toutes et à tous ! Merry X'mas to every body !
