I know it would probably have been easier to start my trouser-drafting journey with something adamantly NOT adjustable. But where is the fun in that?
In retrospect, I very obviously should have interfaced the waistbands with some more structural canvas to help it out. Which I might add later.

This project was so much fun. I learned so much, especially that drafting two-legged things need not be as scary or complicated as it may seem! Even if there are more measurements to make sure you take into account. Especially if you are on the curvier side.

To all you loely people asking for a pattern/drafting process. I made a short video trying to talk about my thought process. It ain't much, and I'm not sure how legible it is. But it is here, such as it is. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3bId3Rrj7KVl80

I recently found a pair of big linen curtains at the thrift and turned one panel into pants! The curtains were from pottery barn (a shop in the usa) so were probably Very expensive and the quality of the linen is great! Thrifting!!!!

Reminds me of a pair of maternity pants my aunt had back in the '80's. Single buttonhole on the outside and three buttons per side in the inside. Inner closure was a single button on one side and elastic with buttonholes on the other. Pants were pleated to help accommodate the baby bump - rather than darted.

I think the row of buttonholes is a really great idea. If I've got one complaint about my own adjustable trousers, it's that the ties that hold up the front are long and reaaaaally cumbersome. Good thinking! 👏

What a beautiful project! Absolutely loved the concept, and the attitude of a problem solver. I find that there is usually at least one thing that gets forgotten in the hustle of sewing and one just has to deal with it. Your beautiful button holes were worth more than the fear of a necessary snip of the waistband. Maybe I should take this as a sign and attempt my own pair of adjustable pants as well. It feels like a scary project to take on, but perhaps it is a necessary one 🤔😊

This is actually weaving yarn from an Etsy shop called YARNITALY. It’s only single ply and does need to be waxed, but alternatives are out there!

As an alternative, Burnley and Trowbridge is a widely recommended source of quality linen thread. The nice thing too is that they have helpful resources on their website to help you better understand what you’re looking for when it comes to linen thread shopping, such as the “ply” and determining thickness.

Would you like to share where you got the linen fabric? My local fabric shops (in Norway) generally only take in light to medium weight linen and I miss something heavier. And ordering from shops in EU gets so expensive 😢
@KristineVike
@KristineVike 10 ай бұрын
This fabric is called "Linen Twill" in colour "00Natural", and it is carried by wholesale supplier Ragnvald Grimsrud AS in Norway. My local fabric shop uses Ragnvald as a supplier anyway, so I can ask them to take in a bolt. I haven't found anything like it online I'm afraid, but maybe one of your local fabric shop works with him already and could be willing to order some? (a heads-up to add that, being heavier and a nicer quality, it is also a bit pricier. I don't know the running price now with inflation and everything, but it's nice to be prepared for it.)

Yes! I was so lucky with Freya. I knew next to nothing when I bought her but she’s in such good working condition and came with lots of extra feet. Not sure about a button hole foot, but certainly a cording foot and a few hemming feet and many more that I haven’t identified. It’s an adventure. 🥰

Where did you get your cone of linen thread?
@KristineVike
@KristineVike 11 ай бұрын
I got it from an Italian yarn shop (primarily for weaving) called YARNITALY on Etsy. It is not the best sewing thread by a long shot. It’s not even 2-ply, but works with waxing. I can just get quite stubborn about using what I already have rather than buying something better fit for the job sometimes (okay, a lot of the time). 😅

I have a vintage, mini Singer that was my aunt's when she was a little girl. It is still functional, but it has to be hand-operated like the machine in this video. It is full of sentimental value to my mom and I because my mom's sister died before I was born. Sewing has been a common interest for most of the women in my family.
