Coffee on the left coast…can’t say I miss going out and digging up big field rocks.

Adjusting the colters made a heck of a difference...it will be interesting to see how big that rock is you hit, you just never know in this country.....Thanks Dave, good luck on the hunt this year.

Thanks. I suspect we’ll find out in the spring.🙄

Glad you're getting some plowing done, good luck hunting.

Thanks. Love plowing, and it’s more enjoyable when everything works.

Looks like the plow is turning sod like it's supposed to. The rough first passes won't show by spring. I wouldn't know how to plow without trees, sloughs, and rock pile obstacles. Thank you Dave.
@Rollinghillsfarmsmn Жыл бұрын
Yeah, we have obstacles in that field. One of my better fields for rocks, however.

You're getting it dialed in. Plowing looks a lot better after a few tweaks.

That was a good sized rock, time for the stump bucket. I usually use paint on the plow bottoms too, grease also works. Hope you get a deer.

Yeah, Dawn’s already planning her attack. She’s been pulling stumps leftover from the fencing project because we finally have enough ground moisture to break the free.

That must have been some rock you hit out there. I know I have plowed up some flat sandstone rocks in 2 fields I have that have been the surface area of my kitchen table. Needed the tractor and highlift to remove them. Looks like the plow is doing better too.

We have glacial rubble on the ridge through our area with big round boulders in the soil and very thin soil north of here where the last glacier stopped. We find spear points and ice-age bones around here from huge bison and saber tooth cats…but mostly just rocks😢

That's pretty cool! @@Rollinghillsfarmsmn

Colter's are just along for the ride.. although they do help in heavy sod. We used to take them off for heavy trash. Biggest adjustment is side to side and end to end. Looks like you have some rock picking to do.. Pretty shiny paint for shears.. The old man said shear paint or grease.. grease was fine for a few months, but shear paint was better.. Scoured off in the first pass or so.

We always pulled them off for corn plowing when I was a kid, where the ground was worked up three out of four years. Gotta have them on these old root-bound sod fields.

Your plow isn't level all the way. If you look out across the field every fourth bottom, you can see its turning over less sod. That will create ridges in the field. And when you stopped, the front looked about 2 inches deeper than the back. You might have to shallow the front up if you don't have the power to lower the back. Also, when you looked for the rock you looked at where the 3rd and 4th bottom were, the way the plow twisted and jumped, you hit it with the first bottom. It's amazing how fewer rocks you guys have than us. Anyway, I hope you guys have good luck this deer season! Stay safe!

You’re right. I can’t get the back in quite as far and I think it’s because I have too tall a rear tire (truck tire). It doesn’t sit all the way down on the adjuster. I did raise the front after a while. Yeah, when I watched the video on the big monitor in slo mo I could actually see the rock move. It was under #1.
@Rollinghillsfarmsmn Жыл бұрын
I was looking at the video and I wonder if I could lower the back plow by shortening the top link, if that would raise the rear wheel to compensate for the tall tire. Next year😊.
@bigDH123 Жыл бұрын
The bottom closest to the tractor was the one that hit the rock, not the back one.
@Rollinghillsfarmsmn Жыл бұрын
Sharp eyes! I saw the same thing when I watched the video on a big monitor. You can actually see the rock move a bit in slo mo.

did you dig out the rock, if you do you should video it, it would make for a good video.@@Rollinghillsfarmsmn
