You certainly used all the good out of those shares!

I need to do the exact same thing to my 145 plow Dave. Apparently there are several "shins" sizes for the 145, so I need to take the shins off and get the correct part number for my particular 145off the back. Good video sir, thanks for taking the time to explain your process. Turning dirt real nice now!

I did the same thing. The shins fit a little odd…I wonder if the parts I removed were correct?

on the back of the shin the part number should be the same old and new. Unless the previous owner used the wrong ones. I found about 3/4" difference between the one I purchased vs. existing@@Rollinghillsfarmsmn

I can't believe that plow would even sink in the ground with those old shares.....Shoup's to the rescue...money well spent that will keep that old Deere going for quite a few more years..... That couldn't be a rock, there's no rocks in Northern MN. lol. Thanks Dave.

Yeah, now that I’ve seen new shares I can see how badly they were worn. It fits my tractor and fits the size of our farm. My neighbor says we have a rock garden🙄

I agree with Ed. Tip the points, and bottom of the shares with Nickel rod .You were close to wearing parts that are difficult to find. Thank you Dave.

We used to add hard surface to the shears, factory job isn't much. Definitely makes a big difference between worn out and new parts. Rolled over pretty good! BTW, that rock, should be right where the bottom tripped. If there is one. Sometimes dry ground can trip bottoms too.

How do you add hard surface?? You’re correct! Turns out there wasn’t a rock that I could feel with the disc…must have just been a hard spot.

@@Rollinghillsfarmsmn weld it on. Special rod. Shears come with a layer on the back side of the cutting edge and behind the tip.. we would cover the tip and the bottom inch or so if the cutting edge. We did so much plowing, that we would change shears every day or two. Did a lot of custom hard surfacing too. Unless someone hit a rock and broke a shear, we would extend the life about 10+ times.

@@GosselinFarmsEdGosselinI may have to talk to my neighbor welder about that. Seems a little above my skill level😊

That really made a difference Dave. Man those plows take a beating. Especially when you hits rock. Yikes! I am lucky here in the clay hills, we don’t have rocks. The plows scour well here.

Up until two weeks ago, I don’t think you could get a plow to go into the ground here. Two weeks ago today, we got 2 inches of a nice slow soaking rain overnight. Then the following Sunday we got another 2 inches that came slowly as well. Then on Wednesday, we got 3/4 of an inch. My pasture which was brown and looking very dead greened right back up and I have had to mow my lawn twice. I hadn’t mowed lawn in 7 weeks. The last rainfall that we had received was May 14 th.

Gary, it’s sounds odd, but that dry soil seemed to plow pretty easy, and it crumbled so nice that first pass discing really broke up the sod. I’m glad I seeded rye immediately or I think that field would have blown away😊. My rain situation was pretty much same as yours. Happy to be wet again.

Looks like you got your money's worth. Amazing what a few new plow parts can do. I'm curious on how tillage is going to work for me.

Yeah, I should have replaced the shares a while ago. I didn’t realize how worn it was until I saw the new parts…kind of embarrassing 🙄.

It was a big upgrade from my IH but it’s pretty old technology. I’ve seen some pretty nice auto reset plows going cheap.
