Bugs are apart of the homesteading life lol wait until you get the stinkbugs smh...last year we had an infestation of ladybugs...this year the cicadas are coming out. this will be one heck of a year.But praise God for the home you all have...it is a lot of work BUT it will challange and test you and your husband's marriage..pray before you all start any renovations so that God can order them for you all.

I know but they just need to stay outside 😂 it’s definitely going to be a challenge for my girls and I but we’ll get through , hopefully lol. Girl we’ve been praying through it all. Only way we stay grounded and not overwhelmed

Lady bugs are good. They eat termites and people buy them and release into their gardens cuz they eat aphids that are on veggies and some fruit trees.

Welcome to the Midwest! I have lived in Wisconsin, my whole life, and the bugs have been here for that long too! Unfortunately, it really doesn't get better especially through the warmer months. Until it freezes. This is a whole different way of living here, then California. But welcome! We are friendly and love to share what we love about the food. Welcome to Columbus! We’re nearby in Newark, Ohio. Coming from the DC area and growing up in the Bronx, It took me sometime adjust to Ohio, however, It’s a great place to bring up children and homestead. God bless❤

Welcome to Ohio!! I Can relate to your experience moving into an older home. We bought the worst house on the street 23 years ago. The first thing we had to do was button up the house. New siding. New soffits because birds were nesting in the existing and new windows. Our house was warmer and actually attractive as your drove up. We didn’t have an insect problem we had a nice problem!😩. Painting and cleaning bought us time to finally get to updating the inside. Good luck!!

We have mice outside and thank God not inside. We have new windows and front door and this week will be new soffits , siding , house wrap , new rain gutters etc. We’re definitely making progress

Smart choice with windows. I moved from a Columbus suburb to Georgia last summer. You need good windows for winter to keep heating bills down. You will love columbus and ohio. If you replace those kitchen appliances list them on marketplace as a set- there is a huge market for 60s and 70s appliances - people want them. Also purchase a home warranty -ASAP - like from AHS or another company. That way, you can get some of these things that are broken or may break soon fixed.....it is totally worth it.

dont forget to do stuff in both sections of the basement for the bugs too, Patio doors and window jams inside and out that is how most lady bugs get in

Bugs are life. The "ladybugs" will come back year after year and they are Houdini's! Get use to them! And many, many amazing meals have already been cooked in this kitchen! And think second hand stores. You can find amazing sinks, fixtures etc that you can buy and and store in the dungeon, lol! Homesteading has challenges and surprises!!!

Bugs are life but if you have a properly sealed house, they shouldn’t been in your home. We’ve had 2 brand new homes in desert area and all the bugs never came in because they couldn’t get in. It’s a matter of sealing your home up to prevent this. Most people just choose to live with them. We are blessed to be able to tackle everything as they happen and we know that God is always in control 🙏🏿

@@HourPointOfView I recommend checking out Modern Kitchen Table for good soul food located inside of BUDD DAIRY FOOD HALL it’s close to downtown Columbus they have lots of restaurants in there (they have a bar inside) but it’s definitely kid friendly I take my kids during the day when my husband wants soul food. The ambiance is really nice too.

The North Market is a cool food spot with lots of different food venders they have a vegan soul food restaurant called Willobeez it’s pretty popular. Have y’all been to Easton or The Short North area?

It's good that you are securing the outside of the home and windows before the Ohio harsh winters. The ladybug infestation won't last long, they come and go seasonally, along with the ants. We get them here in the inner city of Columbus as well. Being in a wooded area you will experience ants, ladybugs and other critters especially in the spring and fall mostly, it will get better.

Going from the city to county life is a big adjustment…. Just wait until summer time, country life comes with a crazy amount of bugs and ticks… we live in a very rural mountain area, so we get a lot of wild animals on our hobby farm. I’ve learned to always have my gun near by. Went for a walk in the back of the property, and ran into a mountain lion…… we both took off running 😂😂, but small town country life is so peaceful…. Oh and that neighborhood pop up at your house to say hello….. that is going to get old, my husband and I felt the same way when ppl would come introduce themselves…..almost 2 years later, I’m like “call or text first”

I’m afraid for the summer bugs! lol our house will be big proof by then so we’ll be ready. It’s one thing to have bugs outside but in my house is where I draw the line lol the neighborhood pop up 😂 all of our neighbors are old and retired, I don’t even think they have cell phones 😂

New subbie! My family just moved into a house in the burbs from an apartment in a suburb closer to the city. We don’t own but are responsible for landscaping and almost everything outside of structural stuff. It’s a big change. What is homesteading I see people keep me mentioning that?😂

Congratulations on your new home. It’s very beautiful. Not sure if you hired a home inspector before you closed. I would hire one and get an assessment on what has to be done. Then make a plan. Take it day by day. It will all come together. :)

I understand your frustrations, but everything takes time. Living in the country will surprise you on a day to day. There are snakes, bugs, birds and all types of critters. It has taken five plus years to get a 2 bed 2 bath second had trailer into shape. This being full time working and taking care of others. You both will get through and look back with smiles!
