I asked my brother about your squash. He said they don’t do well in containers. They need 1/3 more water. Containers limits their rooting. Make sure to pull off all bad squash. My brother has been a produce farmer for 37 years in Illinois and now in Colorado for 6 years. Squash don’t like their roots to get hot. I hope this helps you. My brother took 300 pounds to market in Palisade,Co on 10th and sold out of all produce taken. We need people to grow their own gardens.

I'm trying!! We've got snow peas, turnips, radishes (hot as the Dickens), straight neck squash (what squirrels and opposum allow us to have), four or five carrot plants (don't know what happened there), lettuce, & thought spinach which turned out to be arugula and hot as fire!! We also put Midnight Snack Purple tomato plants in three separate barrels and a cherry tomato in a fourth barrel!! This is my first time gardening in a long time but I started out small to see if I could do it again and will improve next year!! It was rewarding and a lot of work - keeping dogs out of garden, keeping weeds out of garden, keeping squirrels and opposum out of garden!! But, by gosh, we won the war on those beetles!!! 👍🤓

Yes when you put a pesticide on the plants sprinkle it on the ground area not on the plant. The best thing to use is neem oil. It is an approved organic pesticide. Seven is pretty strong. Also, your soil in the containers look dry. Lightly water in the morning really well so the water evaporates in the heat of the day. Its not too late in your area to plant more squash. Y'all be harvesting some come September. I dont know if you can still get one, but get one of those japanese beetle traps. Those things work great. Hang it in the front yard. You dont want it near your vegetables. Hope this helps you some. It helps if you keep a garden diary so you can look ahead and see what did and didnt work.

It looks like the zucchini started rotting on the blossom end, which could be a lack of calcium. It can happen to tomatoes too. I always wash, dry and pulverize all my egg shells and mix in a generous amount in the planting hole. It's late in the game, but you can try to grind some shells up very fine and soak in water a couple days for an emergency watered down solution to your roots. Do it every time you water the zucchini and see if it helps! You may need to water more and add some mulch in this heat for the rest of the garden. It's 105 today here, heat index 120. Different varieties of vegetables like corn have different production timelines, but it's now time to keep the Japanese beetles off them and watch for corn borers at the top of the ears. Your sevin dust helps with the beetles (they eat the silks so kernels can't form. Each silk strand is a kernel) Bacillus thuringiensis (BT) is an organic bacteria spray you apply to the tops of the corn ears that make the corn worms sick and die before they eat your kernels. Hope this helps Ralph! Your friend, Texas Deb ❤️

You need to water more because you have raised beds and they dry out faster than if their were in ground also its been very hot

I think htey go back for the company & the familiarity in spaces with the other animals around them - a bit like churchgoers always like to have the same seat in the whole array, and get sniffy when someone else sits in "their" seat?!

Ralph the same thing happened to my Delicata squash. They need cross pollination. They have male & female flowers. Bees usually are the ones that do the cross pollination. I haven't seen more than a couple of bees. I have one squash growing but really big squash plants that have beautiful flowers each morning. Without bees there are many plants that will not grow fruit or vegetables! Bees are so important. Next year I will grow some flowers, that attract bees, in my garden with my squash. Maybe that will help.

I’ve been watering my tomatoes everyday in this heat. A few of my cherry tomatoes have end rot, but I’m still getting a handful every day.
@Yvonneb_2 жыл бұрын
Regarding tomato plants, I would water every day sometimes twice daily. This is my sons first year growing them but I do know if they dont have enough water the finished product is so hard its virtually uneatable. My ex used to grow them he was great at it. even gave the neighbours quite a lot. He watered his twice daily. xx

We always watered thoroughly in the evening after sun down. Tomatoes do the most of their growth at night .

@@Og-Judy I think our Yellow squash (well the few the squirrels and/or opposum allowed us to have) grew at night. One of the squash seem to grow every time I went outside to check on things!! 👋🤓

The end rot usually mean inconsistent watering in my garden. Some of my bell peppers did that. In the heat of Texas I know I water my raised beds at least once if not twice a day.

Do you think that the goats miss Smokey? It maybe the heat, I suppose but they seem a bit lethargic

My chickens names are Thelma and Louise, Miss Kitty and Marshal Dillion, Betty White, Mabel and Connie Stevens. Also watermelon is a natural dewormer. I give it to mine as a snack in the middle of the hot afternoon to help them cool down too. Two birds with one stone..

If u put those hems with the other chickens the roster will protect them. That might be what happened to short stack.
