MUDFLAP ARMOR!!! I'm a diesel mechanic, the disposal company I worked for had pellets of mudflaps because the drivers would snag them backing up in the garbage dump and rip them off. Those things are pretty tough but flexible and easy to work with, you can cut them into shapes but no way a zombie could bite through it. I would just like to say in WWZ (the book) The Battle of Yonkers was lost because the zombies were packed so thick shoulder to shoulder for about 14 miles (the books states that the horde was packed all the way to Times Square) and the military was being instructed to use Cold War/GWOT tactics instead of methodical headshots or defoliation (i.e. flamethrowers and napalm) to clear them out. It was more a critique on the stupidity of upper management of the Armed Forces than "ooh! ahh! scary zombies" in terms of its messaging.

As an “old skool” Prepper, “zombies” was code for those that weren’t prepared and after a disaster they would become dangerous and start coming for your stuff. Also in many states it is illegal for militias to train OFFENSIVELY. Some thought that using a fictitious opponent like “zombies” instead of “Feds” or “UN Blue Helmets”, you were skirting that law. Who says zombies are fantasy, we've all seen that nold turning ants into zombies. It's only a matter of time until!
@omegacxv83444 ай бұрын
Sorry but I gotta nerd out a little bit. The "mold" that turns ants and other small insects into zombies is a type of fungus, and fungi, (un-)fortunately cannot survive in too much heat. The bodies of pretty much every mammal is too hot for that mold. So unless that bitch mutates so much that Charles Xavier knocks on it's door, it is nigh impossible to really turn a human into a zombie.
@Demane694 ай бұрын
It is fantasy. Humans are too complex of an organism to turned is such ways. Zombies are a cultural fairy tale representing the historic fear of tribal or barbarian raiders that wipe out villages and cities. It's ingrained into the human psyche. 1st world peoples are so detached from history that they cannot even recognize, or admit that they are still bound by the carnal fears that shaped our very social structures. People are so pampered now as to forget how fragile culture really is. Believe me, when wars break out and true strife and evil surfaces, zombies will be the last thing on people's mind. Reality is a harsh teacher. The veil of social, propagandist programming will shatter, and fantasies reveal themselves to be real where barbaric humans are always the greatest threat to civilizations where the decay of leadership opens the gates to it, both outside and in. On a side note, I've always hated anything zombie. I found it a childish approach to facing the reality of war, a practice of dehumanizing opposition which is rampant today and an evil in itself.

I saw a short story somewhere about humanity getting past the zombie apocalypse and continuing on into the stars. The galactic community had laws against killing humans, but no one really knew why, turns out it's because all humans have a heart rate and vitals monitor installed that sends out a beacon if they die so other humans or local law enforcement can come kill their zombified body. That would have to be about the only way we'd be able to get past it, but it's still not exactly a happy ending.

I always took the idea of a zombie apocalypse as more metaphorical unthinking horde of violence taking out everything that wasn't them (or their ideology). If you were "lucky" enough to survive, you become one of them and that's how you continue life "safe" but having taken on the virus. Alive, but lost to the cause of the horde.
@oskar66614 ай бұрын
In the gun culture (particularly at the time) it was very much a code-word for all the real threats that you didn't discuss in "polite" conversation. If some non-gun friend came over and asked why you had X, Y or Z, you'd say "Ya know, zombie apocalypse..."...instead of "ya know, government overreach, rioting mobs of criminals, foreign invasion, civil wars, post-natural disaster crimes...", etc.

Personally, yeah kinda. I started coming up with a story, sorta, as if TWD was set today instead of what? 15 years ago? But then that rolled into being a vampire story (think along the lines as "Stake Land") since zombies would eventually not be an issue on their own 10 years after the initial outbreak (like them being used as weapons by humans against other humans (leading groups to other settlements, tainting your weapons with infected gunk, etc)), yet they'd being an issue again when the people who were alive during the outbreak start dying of old age. Vampires would just return a lot of the US, Canada, and Mexico back to wild west cowboy times since the daytime is safe, so the vampires would be a threat around the level of Indians on the plains. Yeah, that city if full of vampires, and they tend to roam out during the night, so you should probably just bypass and find a safer route. *Or* you can risk it and try to get through fast before nightfall.

As an “old guy” who loves zombies I’ve thought about this allot. I agree with your gun choices but not the sword. Swords only have one purpose, difficult to use if swarmed, and each swing is a risk of sticking in your opponent instead of cutting through. Personally, I find a good hammer would be more effective. Easier to used in enclosed spaces, can be used to break open a door, and then can be used to nail that door shut. Plus it weighs less then a sword. But that’s just my opinion. Either way, someone on the team should probably have a hammer. How else are you gonna board up windows and doors?

What if you had a zombie originating from an external parasite? The parasite can latch onto anywhere on the body it can gain access to the nervous system by remapping the nervous system and the parasite becomes the new brain. Even a slow zombie doesn't have a predictable location for the CNS hub (brain), and the only way to be sure of its destruction is the complete ballistic destruction of the whole body unless you separate the parasite some other way. This is me rambling, I hope someone takes this idea and makes it into a new genre lol

You don't want a sword in your slow zombie kit, they are too high maintenance and not suited for extended encounters like what you'd experience in a zombie apocalypse. Blunt weapons like hammers, maces, or clubs are significantly better since they don't need to be sharpened, won't bend or chip, and don't require precise alignment of your swing to be effective. Also proper polycarbonate face shields are great for keeping schmoo off your face.

@shred18944 ай бұрын
@@matthiuskoenig3378 a very thin rod of steel that doesn't have much blunt force. Swords are generally tapered so the center of balance is a couple inches above the crossguard, which is bad for bludgeoning because the center of mass is too far from where said dull blade makes contact. And swords will bend/break/fail in a one versus many situation such as a zombie apocalypse. If it doesn't bend or break, it can and will get stuck in the body of one of the zombies and you won't easily be able to get it out.

I think World War Z - the book - did classic Romero Zombies really well. I don’t like fast zombies, to me it breaks the rules - although as exceptional/rare breeds, I’m good with it. I like slow, tough zombies that one on one are no threat, but who en mass - and they generally should outnumber survivors thousands or tens of thousands to one - become a threat, and because one bite is death, any mistake will kill you. These versions of Romero-variant Zombies do not seem to have been part of Admin’s zombie evolution, so it explains part of his preference for fast zombies. Slow, difficult to kill zombies that, sure, you can kill by the hundreds if you know what to do, but one mistake kills you and the sheer volume and mental pressure creates mistakes. Plus… not knowing how to kill them, which is kind of a important part of a zombie story, that they’re a semi-outside context protagonist. I totally agree they are less of a threat if your in-universe character is familiar with zombie lore, but that’s another thing World War Z - the book, particularly the audiobook, which is just utterly superbly voice-acted - does so well, and the film does so very, very badly.

What happened to zombies still makes me mad, man. An entire popular genre that could serve as a vehicle to explore the post-apocalypse, and how humanity would rebuild from the ashes, replacing the dead genre of 'nuclear holocaust' that was popular in the Cold War, all the while opening the door for a variety of monster types beyond the common 'slow walker that infects you with a single bite' undead... ... All erased because the Walking Dead came out and filmmakers decided that 'humans are the REAL monsters' is the only kind of zombie story you're allowed to tell.

I disagree, I think slow zombies are scary. Try playing Project Zomboid. They aren't really scary when they're chasing you. What makes them scary is how it's like an incessant thing always out there that preys on complacency. It's the fact they're so harmless most of the time, that eventually you let your guard down, then you forget to check around a corner one day, then walk right into the arms of one. Or it's the fact they're always there waiting for you to mess up. Twist your ankle, step on some glass.
