I read somewhere that the 50% off sale for affinity only runs until the middle of August. I'd encourage people to take advantage of the very generously long trial, but don't let that sale price slip away from you.

I was wondering the same thing. I thought I read on their site that the sale price would be honored at the end of the trial, but why wait or risk it? It's $35 - not a huge loss, even if you rarely use the software. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it!

10 years of Creative Cloud, now I'm done. I've been on Affinity Suite for a few months, with Reaper for audio and DaVinci Resolve for video, and I'm not going back to Adobe.

I really like Davinci, I wish I would have tried it sooner! I've been dabbling in Affinity as well. One problem I have is that Affinity needs a content library. I'm into photography and Lightroom is pretty damn good at photo culling, and their library feature is damn good as well. My Adobe is two separate packages, and I'm almost ready to get rid of one of them.

I jumped on Affinity a year ago. I’m still trying to get comfortable with it. PS is what I’ve been using since late 90s. Need to spend more time in Affinity and less time in blender. Hahah

I've used it for a couple projects now and it's definitely a good program. It may not be 1-1 with Photoshop, but the things it's doesn't do, I'll never have a use for, LOL. I'll have an awfully hard time getting away from Adobe if that time ever comes.

It’s funny how Adobe has become the evil empire recently as only social media can achieve. Full of stories and conspiracy theories which as the old saying goes, lose nothing in the telling, as everyone jumps on the I hate Adobe bandwagon. Quick everyone, grab your pitchfork and torches and follow me! As a pro user since the early nineties and now a sole operator I prefer the subscription model - it’s easier to afford and tax deductible anyway. Yes it’s expensive compared to other software but it’s also considerably better in many respects, and along with its cross application integration, is the reason it rules the professional market and will continue to rule the market particularly among larger studios. Afinity might be a viable option for individuals who only use image editing software but it falls way short of what’s needed in a multi disciplinary design studio for example. Good luck to Afinity reaching those heights. I hope they’re successful as some serious competition would likely lower the price, but I won’t be holding my breath.

I agree that social media has certainly riled everyone up and maybe even portrayed Adobe in an even more negative light than what they have done to themselves, but when you provoke the ire of the FTC and DOJ to the point of getting sued, it's not because you're number one in customer satisfaction. I love Adobe products, but think the company itself has a lot of reflecting to do, and a lot of work to do to repair their tattered reputation, which I think even without the internet, they have done to themselves. I felt the same about the subscription model at one point in time, but it gets old fast. To think what you will pay for that software over the course of a lifetime, it's insane. They didn't make the transition to subscription out of the kindness of their hearts to make things more affordable for us, because if that was the case they would give you both options - that move was inspired by corporate greed, plain and simple. Like you said, it works for you, but not for me. Why not give both options? I agree that Affinity may fall short in some areas, but in its current state I think it's more than sufficient for someone just getting into learning how to mod a video game map. Will they always fall short? I doubt it, or at least I hope not. Canva has a great AI model that I think they will eventually incorporate in Affinity, and just like Adobe had to start somewhere, Affinity has the potential to rise through the ranks. Professional software does not have to be ridiculously expensive. Take Davinci Resolve for example, even their studio version is relatively inexpensive and they can afford to do so because they have a hand in the hardware market, and that's where they make their money. Davinci can give both Premeire and AE a run for the money. Affinity (or Serif) has Canva and a few smaller options to help keep their prices low. I think what Adobe is facing now, along with the backlash, has the potential to knock the wind from their sails and bring them down a few notches. There is no doubt other companies are jockeying for position as a result, and in the end, I think we may see a few competitors come from all of this, and I hope that's the case. Adobe doesn't want competition, they want to remain the monopoly. They are the Microsoft of the creative world. Have you seen the kickstarter for Abode? Now, that's a lawsuit waiting to happen! Great idea, but likely to fall flat on their faces.

@@bauerbrown Sure they need a slap to get back in line. Like every company they are out to make as much money as they can and not out to do favours. Combine that with a monopoly and well, the result is often too predictable. No competition is unhealthy and never works in the users favour. There are lots of examples of that around.
