@HTGGeorge4 жыл бұрын
There are several great alternatives out there to Photoshop Elements including Luminar, ON1, ACDC, and Affinity Photo. Any of those programs would be a good choice for doing photo work and some are much better at that than Photoshop Elements, but for the type of stuff that I do Photoshop Elements is still the best option although Affinity Photo is getting close. Photoshop Elements still has the best Refine Edge tool in any program I have tried, including the massive Adobe Photoshop.

@HTGGeorge4 жыл бұрын
If you spend all of your time in Expert Mode then 15 is probably fine. Most of the updates since then have been Guided Edits and such. No real change to Expert except for the new Facial Tilt trick in Adjust Facial Features. If that tool is important to you then maybe this upgrade would be worth it. Personally if I just had 15 and I wanted to upgrade my capabilities I would add in Affinity Photo which does a lot of tricks that Photoshop Elements can't do and only costs $50. It saves to the PSD format so you can use both programs together using the best parts of each.

They say you can have any number of photos in a catalog, but once I went to and over 20,000 it will not even run. I upgraded from 2020 to 2021 and same problem. too bad, it actually works great when it works.
@HTGGeorge3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony, have you tried repairing and optimizing the catalog? In the Organizer go to File, then Manage Catalogs. Select your catalog and click Optimize. If that doesn't fix it try clicking Repair. You might also consider breaking your image collection into several smaller catalogs based on themes or projects.
@TDHobbies3 жыл бұрын
@@HTGGeorge I have tried that, it just locks up. First off I have a custom build PC, windows 10, core i9-9900K, 64G ram. I haven’t transferred photos in over a year, (iphone photos) due to the phone not maintaining connections (I figured that out) so now I opened the catalog in v2020 and it was ok, I didn’t really test anything, just opened it up to transfer photos. After transferring the photos, 12,000 of them, it would lock up during the adding process into the organizer. I opened up resource monitor and saw that it would get to just over 3,000 and would fully use up my RAM. The window that pops up after the actual transfer that shows it found photos, and then it adds them to the catalog is where it would freeze, so after I saw this I let it count up and hit the “stop button” at 3,000 before it used up all the RAM. Since then it just keeps freezing. I upgraded to 2021 and converted the catalog thinking that it was just because of the HEIC format. What happens is it starts to analyze the faces and freezes, I went into the settings and turned off the auto analyze and now it seems to just freeze up after being opened… the catalog is working on creating thumbnail images, but it just freezes, I left it open for hours hoping it would finish whatever it is doing. When I close it and try to optimize the catalog it freezes within a minute. I used make a new catalog after 2 years so as to not overload, but many people say there is no limit, but I am finding out this is not true, there is a limit. I sort of recall a way to save the tags to the photos and restore them,

Thanks for the evaluation, George. However, I don't think there is anything really that makes me feel that I would benefit. Most of what I do is pretty standard use of layers, eg I am currently re-editing photos I took of the beautiful Dorset town of Sherborne. Because, thanks to viewing your tutorials, I feel more confident in making multiple selections within the images, I have been able to enhance how they look (or so I like to think!) As you say, a lot of the tweaks seem aimed at social media. Again, that is something that I would not be interested in. OK, I use facebook, but I am more than happy just to upload any of my photos that I think might interest people. So, I'll give it a miss and see what version 2022 brings - if there is one.

UPDATE - The issue I raised in my comment HAS BEEN RESOLVED BY ADOBE. I'm impressed they took action to resolve a customer complaint. Kudos to Adobe. I've learned a lot from your videos. Thank you for the video. I,do not think I'm going to do this 'upgrade'. I purchased the combo of premiere elements and photoshop elements from the adobe site all of 8 weeks ago. Their 'upgrade' is as much as what I paid for the product just 8 weeks ago. They offered a whopping $10 discount to 'upgrade'. That doesn't seem like a very good business model to retain customers. Certainly not your issue, and thanks for the video.
@HTGGeorge4 жыл бұрын
Adobe really doesn't care about providing a good upgrade path for Elements. They will occasionally do sales at odd times throughout the year but they really expect people to buy the program once and not upgrade for several years. No reason to upgrade from 2020 to 2021 unless one of the 6 new features would be extremely useful. I like the new Face Tilt and I can see lots of uses for the Quote Graphics but neither of those is worth the upgrade price for most people.

@HTGGeorge3 жыл бұрын
I personally like using Photoshop Elements but a good free program is paint.net, you can download that here www.getpaint.net/download.html. Click on the icon that says dotPDN. The trident is a 3D model so there are two files used, one is for the inventory icon which you already found and the other is in the entity folder. You can't change the shape though by editing that file, only the texture. Editing the shape is much more difficult and requires doing some programming in Java with the json files. I am slowly starting to show some of that stuff in my videos and will show more over the next few months.

The 1 click paralax effect is worth the upgrade Can you apply the picture quote and 3D motion to a picture simultaneously?
@HTGGeorge4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no, the Motion effect flattens a layered image first before applying the motion. If you can create a picture where the overlaid graphic is obviously the foreground and if Photoshop Elements recognizes that it may loo like it is floating above the image. I need to do more testing on that, the program considers things at the bottom of the image more likely foreground and things at the top of the image more likely background if that helps. Hi Estell, Adobe Photoshop is a professional level program and can go everything but it has a steeper learning curve. Photoshop Elements is designed for the hobbyist and has several features to make the program easier to use. It really comes down to how serious you are about image editing and whether or not this is for business. If it is your job then you really need Adobe Photoshop, if on the other hand you are just doing scrapbooking, or family photos, or are a amateur photographer and you want a easy way to clean up your photos for sharing then Elements is the better choice. I personally think that you can do professional level image editing and creation using Photoshop Elements and that has been the main concept behind my KZbin channel, but when I need to do an image for a job I always use Adobe Photoshop. Never more than that. So a 16x16 would be 32x32 or sometimes 64x64. If the images are too large Minecraft will simply not use them

@@bartgoethals6377 You're welcome. My recommendation for most people is to upgrade every 3-4 versions unless something groundbreaking comes out. PSE 15 was one of those must have upgrades.

@@HTGGeorge Hi George, would you recommend PSE to me for making monthly planners, shopping lists, organization planners, checklists and more? I was using Photoshop but I don't want to pay the monthly fee anymore.

@@normib6 Hi Norm, I know I already answered this question before so here is a different take on it. You can get a free 30 day trial of Photoshop Elements from Adobe to try it out and see if it will do what you want. Go to this page www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-elements.html and scroll down almost to the bottom where you will find the free trial links

Actually Photoshop Elements is a great program, not junk, but I admit the updates and new features in version 2021 is less than exciting. If you update every year like I do then the new features are appreciated and I can see a lot of uses for the new Quote Graphics tool

Warning Adobe Elements 2021 has gone stale & even gone downhill. No updates since 2015 version and the 2021 version easily gets overwhelmed and a "not responding" code comes up(even when running a top computer with 16GB ram). Thus, you have to close the program and loose all your work. I called Adobe and it is impossible to get service. I would recommend a stand alone non Adobe program for entry to intermediate editors such as myself. Also Adobe does not work with AVI format and many other formats, as Adobe has sat on their heels. Cheers,
@HTGGeorge3 жыл бұрын
Hi Cliff, I have to disagree. First, Adobe never updates PSE, they come out with a new version instead each year. The new version contains the updates. I don't like that business model but that is how it always has been with Adobe. Next I haven't had a single problem with 2021, sounds more like a problem on your specific computer setup than a problem with the program. Photoshop Elements has never worked with video files, that is handled by its sister program Premiere Elements. The much more powerful Adobe Photoshop does work with video. The AVI format is several years out of date at this point and shouldn't be used anyway. And finally PSE is a hobbyist program and not really designed for actual work, I would recommend just about anything else if you work at all professionally. Lots of good choices, Afffinity Photo, ON1, Luminar, ACDSee, etc. For true professionals Adobe Photoshop is the only program to use.

Only if you have Photoshop Elements 2020 or maybe 2019, if you have anything before version 15 I would consider this necessary. If you have 15 or 2018 then it is a bit of toss up. There have been several useful new features since 15 but not everyone would need those. One thing I didn't mention in the video is that the new Photoshop Elements 2021 works better with the current version of Windows 10 than any previous version so if you care about reliability this is also a good update.
