If laws don’t change I hope everyone get their check ups like this one.

Doctor Tahmen, I understand. Just make me upset that boys and girls need to had that check up when probably they hate it. And when doctors “normalize” this young people nudity makes me more upset and uncomfortable. Clearly a doctor see in their young patients (8-20 yo) discomfort, shame even fear, but don’t care they still making the same check up. I would like to know as a doctor what are you and your colleagues doing to make this doctors visits less embarrassing for teenagers? There are so many tumors than can develop on other parts of the body (knees as example) and most doctors give a fuck about it.
@jilblanche4 жыл бұрын
@@luisg7109 I agree with you on this 100%. I was only asked twice by my doctor when I was a teen, and the first time he asked, he made sure that I understood that I had the right to refuse the exam. I refused, and that was that. The second time, however, he didn't bother asking. I never removed my pants when I went to the doctor, I still don't at age 44. He had my father leave the room, asked me to lie back so he could examine my abdomen, and when he palpated just below my navel, undid my pants and tried to just put his hand down my underwear. I had to physically stop him, and he snapped at me for it. I told him "no" again, and he tried to cover up what he did by saying "Just your abdomen." before pressing the exact spot he just checked. I got dressed as quick as I could considering I was shaking. He sat down, blocking the door and had the nerve to try to get me to consent. I told him "no" again. We argued back and forth for a few minutes, and the last thing he said to me was, "You're almost a man. Why don't you grow up and just let me do it." I told him it wasn't going to happen and that I was leaving. I was almost 15. I didn't go back to a doctor until my 30s. I still wouldn't go for an annual physical. Testicular exams and self exams are no longer recommended for asymptomatic men, same with hernia checks, same with PSA and prostate exams. And while checking for proper development during adolescence is recommended, the patient has the final say as to what happens to their body.

jilblanche I feel you, when I was a kid (11 yo) I used to swim and dive a lot. The water pressure hurt my ears very often so my visits with my all life (male) pediatrician was regular. He always got me a good diagnosis and treatment. The bad thing was every single visit included genitals check up ( even if I was there one week ago ) I started to feel uncomfortable and rare ( my friends told me their doctors never look “down there” on them ) so my next visit with the doctor I asked if he could just check my ears. ( my mom looked and me with killer eyes and the doctor just agree with a little smile ) so he start the check up ( all the stuff you know ) The part I hate is when he told me to lay on the stretcher, he raised my Tshirt and I raised my self to tell him I don’t want you to check there. He told will check just your abdomen so I let him until he put a hand on my chest and tried to unbutton my jeans, at that moment I jumped out of the bed and told him “ I told you that I don’t want “ He did not say nothing and my mom kicked me out to wait with the receptionist. Then they talked about me for about 10 minutes and we leave the clinic. Of course my mom told me I was ridiculous I many ways in our way to home. I had never visit the pediatrician again or any doctor until I was available to drive. ( when I was 16 yo I drove alone with a dermatologist for acne problems) Many years I felt guilty by my reaction with the pediatrician. Until I start my sexual life and notice some problems “down there” he never took care when I was a child. Then I though ( what the hell was he looking for ????!!!!) Until today i got all my check ups and vaccines standing, cuz I hate layin on the stretcher. im 29 now.

@@luisg7109 Completely inappropriate behaviour on the part of your doctor. I am so sorry you went through that, and you have every right to feel how you do about it. Prior to the Dr that tried to force a GU exam on me, I had been sexually assaulted by another Dr. I was 6 or so when that happened. I never told my parents because my mother felt that dr's could do no wrong, and the doctor phrased it to be medical, and feelings of guilt, shame, and fear of being punished. He fondled me while pleasuring himself. The second doctor was just arrogant and uncaring. I suffered from chronic ear and sinus infections and was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 11, so I went to that 2nd dr multiple times a year. I was sick with anxiety every single time. My only friends who had GU exams were those who played sports, everyone else was freaked out and disgusted by the thought of it. That 2nd Dr was awful. He repeatedly told me that my back problems would never affect my life, and now I'm in almost constant pain, disfigured and disabled. I wrote to my state board about how he treated me at that last visit, just last year, way too many years too late, and their response helped a bit. They said that what he did was assault, harassment, completely unethical, and a breach of the doctor patient relationship. They told me I was brave for speaking out, and apologized for me having to relive it while writing to them. They also apologized for not being able to bring a case against him because of the huge lapse in time. I also wrote directly to him telling him how he killed my trust in doctors. Obviously, he didn't respond, as that would be an admittance of wrongdoing. I tell others of any age that they have the right to refuse exams if they are uncomfortable. Most don't know that they have that right, because doctors don't fully inform them. Every single part of a physical is optional. You always have the right to stay fully dressed.

I think that the physical examination should have been performed by a doctor of the same gender as the patient, because for an adolescent it is a bit annoying and embarrassing when performed by a doctor of the opposite gender. Do not believe that because the patient is a male, he will automatically adapt to any situation. It is the same as if it were a girl who is examined by a male doctor, it is very uncomfortable. In addition, the tone of voice that this doctor uses for some adolescents, especially males, is annoying because she uses phrases such as "singing" or as if she were speaking to a preschool child.🤔

There is profound unlawful discrimination and disrespectful disparity in equity between male patients and female patients... [1] Male patients, including boys, are NOT informed that they have the comfort RIGHT to same-sex practitioners and technicians, [2] male patients, including boys, are NOT informed of their right NOT to have female nurses or medical assistants unnecessarily in the clinical rooms, [3] males patients, including boys, are NOT informed that they may decline intimate parts of an exam, or that they may have the comfort of a "patient advocate" of their choosing present, [4] female medical staff do NOT ask mother's of adolescent and teenage boys to leave the clinical rooms (but they insist father's leave, even if the patient is male) and [5] male patients, including boys, who advocate for their rights are OFTEN ostracized, ridiculed, shamed and punned.

@@hiiii092 Female patients do NOT, by any stretch of the imagination, have these "same"/"routine" problems or challenges as male patients experience flagrantly; saying such a thing is blatantly insulting and absolutely ignorant... [1] Female patients, including girls, generally ARE informed that they have the comfort RIGHT to same-sex practitioners and technicians. [2] Female patients, including girls, generally ARE informed of their right to have female nurses or medical assistants in the clinical rooms. [3] Female patients, including boys, generally ARE informed that they may decline intimate parts of an exam, or that they may have the comfort of a "patient advocate" of their choosing present. [4] Female medical staff do NOT ask mother's of adolescent and teenage girls to leave the clinical rooms (but they insist father's leave, even if the patient is female). [5] Female patients, including girls, who advocate for their rights are NOT ostracized, ridiculed, shamed and punned. There may be fewer than 1% of instances when there is no female doctor or trauma surgeon available (i.e., a very RURAL emergency room), but the female patients ARE accorded the comfort of a FEMALE nurse or patient advocate of the female patients' choosing (INCLUDING the off-chance that there is only a male technician to do a "sensitive" procedure). OBGYN offices as well as Maternity and Breast Cancer services ARE allowed to employ ONLY female office staff, nurses and technicians and NOT hire male office staff, nurses and technicians. In retrospect, female office staff, nurses and technicians ARE allowed to occupy positions where MALE patients attend MALE genitourinary procedures and there are ZERO incentives made to hire and/or retain male nurses and technicians. Even the MEDICAL INDUSTRY acknowledges the flagrant discrimination against male patients... This from a 2012 medical publication regarding Patient Modesty and Privacy Concerns pertaining to sports physicals and genital examinations: "Adolescents in particular deserve utmost sensitivity for genital exams, especially for their first thorough one. While this is recognized for girls, it is RARELY mentioned for boys even though every practitioner must be aware of boys’ embarrassment. Parents will often accede to their daughters wishes for gender preference and will prepare their daughters for what to expect; boys are RARELY accorded the same consideration..." The above was provided last year in response to the CONTINUING prevalence of PUBLIC sports physicals whereby the boys are examined out-in-the-open in the presence of female school staff and female student athletes [and the girls, who do NOT undergo genitals examination, were allowed "screening"].

@@Aeson-np8tr thanks for all the info! B much appreciated and makes sense; what I didn’t mention is, my friend son and the other guys heard the doctor mention heart murmur to the nurse, one who immediately exclaimed that his cousin had a heart murmur and died at 27; that really scared traumatically my friend son for a few days until he was able to get to his pediatrician! Fortunately the heart murmur wasn’t quite that serious, but it was to a degree; that event has caused him to be anxious and very distrustful in general

@@rexiiforsure9558 It is HARMFUL to boys' emotional development that such flagrant violations of MALE patient modesty/privacy has been widely "normalized" and sociologically accepted; when boys get older and learn that they were not ethically accorded the same protections as girls, they DO get upset/traumatized. Kids dropping on the field HAS occurred many, many times (often with DEATH later resulting). Protocols for sports physicals encouraging checking for heart/pulse abnormalities; however, you'd be surprised how many parents disapprove!! Those protocols for sports physicals also do NOT support MALE genitals exams during sports exams and find them to be controversial (for reasons cited above). Pubescent and post-pubescent males (including adult males) get punned/harassed regarding their genital checks (which causes them to become self-conscious and often traumatized, which then causes them not to do self-checks and even delays necessary visits to their doctor when symptoms develop (i.e., hernias, testicular cancer, torsion or cyst, epididymitis, prostate cancer, gynecomastia, breast cancer, etc.). It also amazes medical professions how school officials and parents ALLOW nut-taps, d*ck-taps and "pantsing" of males as a social right-of-passage rather than "sexual harassment" and Assault.
