@@ZanderTheMarvelous “Marine brat” just means child of a Marine. It is common slang for children of military members to be known generally as “military brats”. Most identify further by the branch of service their parent(s) such as Marine brat, Army brat, Navy brat, Air Force brats, etc. There is a special bond amongst military brats as they grow up in a different lifestyle than other kids. The frequent moves, the parent(s) being deployed for long periods of time, small housing, lower pay, living/hanging out on military bases, using military hospitals, having a dependent ID, etc. It is just a different culture.

I thank them for serving our country. My father fought in World War II. He came home and suffered from PTSD. They didn’t really know too much about it but they gave him lots of medication. It was a very hard childhood, having to live with a father, who suffered with mental health. Now I pray for these men and women to come back, not just whole physically, but whole mentally. it is a sacrifice.

As an Air Force Brat I love this. My dad was in my AF for 18 years and those long nights and days without my dad when I was little was a lot, the joy of seeing him come home in the morning or the evening was awesome, but we were always told to be quite so he could sleep if he had night shift

welcome to the life of a military family. there’s some days it’s really hard and others i’m blessed to be a military daughter. my dad has missed most of my life due to deployments and being stationed far from home. he’s currently away deployed out in the middle east. thankful he comes home this summer i. time for my sister to be born ❤️

it is interesting how different military life can be on people. on one hand you have people who never see there parent sense they are deployed and on the other hand you have military members not being away from there family for years and get to travel the world together

I love her because shes so big about veterans mental heath because my dad had a TBI back in 1997 and has also had PTSD since then and has always had trouble carrying out everyday tasks so i appreciate people that care so much like her because me and my dad were watching this when he was home and he said he never have had someone that he has heard of or seen care as much as other vets such as her.

I love how real this is, explaining/showing the side most civilians do not see or understand. Great video! My family is military too. My husband has currently been active duty U.S Air Force for almost 8 years so far. He's been through 2 deployments in the middle east. Before joining he was a military child, his parents were mil to mil, so he's moved around his entire life. The military lifestyle can be tough sometimes, filled with many lows and highs. Although we might be far away from our family, the military is like a 2nd family. We've made some amazing life long friends on this journey.

Great interview. Amazing military couple. It take’s a lot of fortitude to keep in the fight especially with kids. Military brat moved 7 times, AF guy who moved 6 times. Even when you’re doing the work, you want to find a place where you can finally be grounded with family, community and location. It’s a very tough nut to crack.

My father served Indian Army, we hardly spent anytime with him. I only saw him once a year. And we started spending time after his retirement. I was almost 17 year old by that time, my brother was 26 yrs and my sister was 32 year old and married. He never saw us growingup. Now, he is getting older and we are full grown adults and, mostly spend our time working at workplace. It’s sad seeing him getting older. I love you Dad.❤

I come from a big military family. My sister and my dad both of my grandpas my cousins most of them and other family members served and are currently serving to this day. I see the struggles that my family go through when their spouses or their father or mother are deployed. But we are a family and we always stick together and we always will be there for each other. My grandfather and father both served. And my older brother is currently serving. My grandfather during Vietnam and Korea, and my father during Dessert Storm(as an MP). All three joined the Army. They all joined for their lose and passion for the country they grew up in.

I'm a realtor in Huntsville Alabama and I bet the father lived in Huntsville. It's crazy to hear how the host of this channel has never met someone in the military or doesn't know what an MRE is. It's a different perspective on life that everyone doesn't have a military base next to their home or that all their friends are from all over the U.S. and cant says they are from a specific place. I am from a town that has Military, Missile Defense contractors, and scientists. I'm used to this and for most of my life all I knew. Now that I travel all over the U.S. and the world, I see people who don't live this hardcore structured life or have friends who have seen the world. being a realtor in this town is amazing..plus Washington D.C. is a second home to most of my community. It's beautiful

I just retired from the army guard after more than 20 years (E-6 and O-5). Great respect for Nick being a past NCO and O-3. The Marines Corps respect certain non-commissioned officers to be elevated to warrant officer and commissioned officer. Great respect to Nick, his wife and family. And him making the shadow boxes. As an Air Force brat, this video is so cool! Actually being on the inside of a military family is so different than what people who aren't military-affiliated think! My oldest brother works at our base's Commisary, my other brother works at the Exchange, I'm part of a cadet program on base, the military life is like no other.

Being the child of someone in the military is tough. As a kid you're met with the harsh reality that your parents aren't immortal, and that sucks. Making friends is really difficult, at least for me it was I moved every 1-2 years. My Dad served 20 years in the military, he had a decent amount of time BEFORE I was born in, but a huge chunk of my life he was active duty 24/7. I didn't realize how much my father sacrificed both physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. He's had friends not make it back home, friends who did make it back home, and couldn't cope, he also has to deal with the stuff HE had to do as well. While also being an outstanding father. I've been an adult for a few years now, but that military lifestyle has kept calling me. I'll be enlisting early next month, because I've seen the benefits. This video brought back alot of happy and sad memories. Standing in this big airport, talking to my dad, and him explaining to me why he has to deploy. Then watching him get lost in the sea of uniforms as he boards a plane. The ceremony when he comes home, but the group is smaller than before. I personally can't wait to start my military journey, but 24 hours really isn't enough time to truly understand military lifestyles, but that's really all the time you had. It is one of the happiest and saddest portions of my life, and has shaped me into who I am today. You have to grow up, and mature so much faster than the students in your age group. It kind of strips your childhood away in some ways. I've been in school only to learn about a suicide bombing on the base where my dad was, he was literally a giant wall away from being blown up, and a few of the guys he worked with didn't make it. One of my core memories was me asking why he was angry sometimes, and I think it really woke him up to his emotions. I remember him sitting me down, and telling me that whenever I wanted to stop I could. I was maybe 16-17 when he pulled out this super dusty laptop, and on it were a couple hundred photos of his time in the military deployed. They were some of the most brutal images I've ever seen, and I'm sure I don't need to mention what exactly I'm talking about. But what gets me isn't the gore, it's the videos after. They get to base, and document what they saw to talk about it. Some of them are puking outside their rooms, some are reading a bible, others are praying to whoever they worship, smoking, working out, or just shut down completely. I've seen second hand the REAL horrors of war, and I've met the people in those videos. When he talks about PTSD in the video, and individuals going through a mental health journey it doesn't just impact you, it impacts your entire family. One day you're leaving this shining beacon, and 9-12 months later there's something missing that can never be retrieved. I really like how mental health was a big focus in this video, and that more Soldiers/Marines are OPEN about talking about their own personal journeys.

boot is gonna be one of the best/ worst times of your life. itll be whatever you make of it. if it breaks you down and you dont know how to keep going, just push yourself chow to chow. its meant to be hard, youre meant to struggle. focus on the little things, find joy in any small moment you can. try and take up a billet. make yourself important, whether it be thru guide or squad leader or even just as scribe or a whiskey pig. good luck brother, look forward to you joining the family

My Mom and Dad were in the Army National Guard and I was born at Mather Veteran Affairs Hospital in Rancho Cordova. My Brother was also Army and my Sister is in the Air Force. The Misconception about PTSD is not always dangerous to be around them. My Brother Sleepwalks the Army Drill that’s his PTSD.
