Hey Andrew, Scott from Canada(living in Germany) here. Great video and explanations! I am at this step on my 15' Prospector Ranger build and this helped me a lot. Love the way you sharpen your pencil :p!

Stephen from Ratho, Scotland here. Great videos Andrew! They've really helped me with my build. I'm just about at this stage with my Ranger and was rewatching you fit the outer stem to prepare myself.

Hi Stephen, all the best with your build. I found the stems incredibly intimidating until I actually got into them, then it all just sort of made sense. Ratho is beautiful, I used to have a friend who lives there, and I've been to the climbing centre many times. Plenty of good canoeing close by too! Check out my latest video, from the Highlands 👍

Andrew, I make my stems longer, and together, inside and out. This allows a longer brass rubbing strip to extend further, where it really will help the durability of the keel line. Also, I use a spokeshave to draw the profile of the outer stem into shape. Drawing the blade here offers far greater (more precise) control of matters.

Thanks, very interesting. I can see why having the stems, & brass strip, further down along the keel would make sense. There was so much to learn, I'd never used half the tools involved before! Thanks again

It's looking good. Planes, Stains and chiselled wood peels.

Andrew, Jim from Canada here. Really enjoying your series. I'm in the process of building a 15' Bob's Special. Finished the strongback and stations, waiting for epoxy to glue up the stems. I'll be rewaching your videos as I proceed. They are some of the best out there. Keep up the great work.

Hi Jim, I just realised I didn't respond. All the best with your build, and thanks for the kind words! Will you send me a link to a picture of it once you finish?
