You are absolutely incredible. I’m currently writing a paper on Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency, and I understood why ACTH was released, however, I never really grasped what it did and it’s role in how stress is managed. I don’t even know how, but you made me understand things I never had questions to! This really allows me to write about this condition in a whole new light; therefore, it allows me to understand the measures our bodies will go to in order to deal with stress, and how those measures can be related to high blood pressure and the fight-or-flight response (alongside others). You’re amazing, thank you.

Back in May, my ACTH was a 7, but blood cortisol was a 15. VA Endocrinologist didn’t want to do anything, because of my cortisol is fine. I have trouble falling asleep and would like to get off medication that I take to fall asleep. I want to be able to fall asleep on my own, again.

Why can’t my doctor be like you , I was bombed with cortisone prednisone for years because I had ulcerative colitis until I was that sick the removed my bowel and stopped all the drugs I was on . Now it’s like I’m locked in flight and fight mode with adrenaline pumping through my body soon as I’m put under the slightest pressure. Even talking in front of someone I don’t know, sweat shakes dry mouth etc

Hi there thanks for explaining so clearly. It is brilliant. I have a condition when it comes to any stress situation my heartbeat rises up very quickly and my blood pressure falls. Also when i take any kind of vitamin ( smal amount) or any minerals like magnesium my heartbeat raises and my blood pressure falls. I cannot take alcohol same issue. I cannot do exercise as my heart beat raises up quickly and i become fatigued very quickly. if i take saline water that when i feel a little normal My heartbeat is around 80/90 bpm. all the time what kind of problem i might have? What kind of doctor should i see. I have seen many non of them worked. I have never seen a neurologist. Should i consider seeing one? It would be great if i could get an advice. Thanks Thanks.

Sounds like your electrolyte/mineral balance is off. If you don’t have enough sodium, potassium, minerals in harmony then your heart cannot send electrical impulses to ❤️ properly. Try getting more potassium 4700mg/day from vegetables and fruits high in it AND add Pink Himalayan Salt to your diet, also making sole water and add 1tbsp daily to your beverages, it’s Pink Himalayan Salt dissolved into water, store in refrigerator. Take a container 🫙 Fill 1/4 w/PHS (pink salt) Fill remainder w/water If you improve then it’s a dietary deficiency causing your symptoms. Otherwise you need metabolic testing to see levels of sodium, potassium and minerals. Drinking too much plain water makes it much worse as that dilutes these things.

I have some of the same problems. I’m being referred to an endocrinologist after one of my 24 hour urine labs came back abnormally high. Specifically free cortisol. I would ask your doctor to get some labs checked

I don't understand why my 8am ACTH levels would be very high when my cortisol is high end of normal. I'm not afraid of needles, had a pleasant conversation about cats with the med lab tech and slept in on a vacation day before the blood draw so I'd say not too stressed.

Check with MD who ordered your test who knows your med case history but quick online search: High ACTH and high cortisol levels: may mean Cushing's disease.

This was excellent - definitions make all the difference in learning. My query is to what extent does liquorice affect ACTH production and does anything mitigate or boost it's effects to bring about steroid 'happiness'?! :D

@Dr Matt & Dr Mike Not sure if you would know, I don’t do it no more but when I had my first synacthen test a year ago but I smoked cannabis everyday for 5 years but quit 7 months ago would that affect synacthen test because of me basically doing it during a cannabis hangover and being a heavy user.

CONFUSED... I have Hypothyroidism - but in ( 2015 ) I was researching conditions, and asked my Dr if I could have an Adrenal issue instead.... So he took a ACTH test.. Early in morning and Base line was flagged as high at 24.1.... 30 minutes later it only rose to 26.3 - 60 minutes later it was 29.3.... Didn't say or do anything but labled me as having Chronic Fatigue Syndrome... Is there any way you could clear up if this is correct / what I have?
