In part 2 we cover the writing processes for SHINee’s CØDE, NCT 127’s gimme gimme & Earthquake! Check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYq8lIKlfdh_pK8 P.s. We had hoped for Kenzie to have joined us for these interviews but we understand and respect her wish to keep her privacy ❤️ Our list of producers who we want to interview keeps growing (and catching up with Adrian in a solo interview is definitely on the to-do list)… What other K-Pop writers do you want to see appear on the channel? 👀 Edit: Here's who we have interviewed so far: kzbin.info/aero/PLFw_XZtkCVMNX3IH9qhK9eG4vo_3tAl_5

For me, everything about this song screams masterpiece - from the song, the mv, their outfits/styling, the choreo - everything! So when I realized that Kenzie, Adrian AND Moonshine were responsible, I thought “no wonder!” They are the kpop dream team for me. I think this album is my favorite kpop album (sorry EXO lol). It’s very fun and cheerful, but also creative with a pretty wide range of styles. This is why I am such a SM stan because their writers really line up with my taste in music. Thanks for doing these great interviews.

My (lengthy) take on the topic of ~Moonshine~ production tags: I agree that I those tags that are hidden, almost drowned in the production, are lovely. They just form a small little part of the song without being of obvious importance, but you would still miss them if they weren't there. One example is 'CØDE', I really enjoy how tucked away the ~moonshine~ is, almost like a harmonic line to the main melody. But. The tags I tend to love most are more generally those that add something to the production, that help with the atmosphere or drive the song forward. One example is the tag in 'Infinity'. I really love the intro, the way everything feels so grand, so wide, and part of that is because the melodic lines are rather legato and laid back, almost floating. The melody sways forward, "to infi~ni~ty~", and then you get that amazing quick "Moon!Shine!", immediately preparing you for the slightly more rhythmic section of "I'm the other one...". I feel like the tag is an absolutely integral part of the intro, and the section wouldn't work as well without it. So I like that one. Another one is the "Earthquake" one, it helps more generally with the overall feel of the song and also fits in nicely with later low-pitched vocal samples. It gives an immediate sense of danger and anxious anticipation, and the fact that it is one of the most obvious tags may even help here, because if you never heard the tag anywhere before, you definitely notice the low voice and might be like: "Oh damn, something is about to go down." And if you know how the tag usually sounds like, you're like: "OH DAMN, something is DEFINITELY about to go down!" And finally I would like to point out the "Moonshine!" in Hyo's 'Dessert'. The way it squeakily follows right after the vocal chop in the intro is weird, funny, and made it an instant earworm for me. I spent weeks walking around, just singing "HWUI! Ho! Ho! Ho! Hwui! Hoho hoho MoonShine!" And if that's not peak pop production, I don't know what is. So I understand that Moonshine want to hide away their tags, and I am here for it. It's always fun to have finished listening to a new Moonshine track and going: "Wait, was the tag in there? Time to re-listen..." But I also love the occasional obvious tag, especially when it forms such an important part of the production. When a producer tag makes you squeal in delight or anticipation, just a few seconds into the song, then something is being done right, no matter how hidden or obvious it is. :) P.S.: And yeah, I loved the interview. Adrian and Moonshine complimenting each other, hyping Kenzie, I love to hear it. Absolute geniuses in what they do, all of them.

@@soomaan1220 An excellent ~moon! shine!~ in an excellent song indeed. I like how the "Moonshine" hits in 8th notes on the final beat of the slow intro, pitched to the 5th, immediately followed by the main melody continuing the line. It's a really nice pick up, and a good transition from the minor key intro to the major key chorus-foreshadowing part. Again it is one of the tags that have a musical function, which I adore.

OHMYGOOOOD. UMU DOING GOD'S WORK ✨✨✨ Like I wish more interviews will be done for music production because we can never have these incredible songs out there w/o the producers 😭 BUUUUT, on an honest note, I'm not sure we can get this much content with regular interviews. I mean Umu KNOWS and BREATHES music so the level of understanding she has for what these artists are talking about is just on a higher level so that makes us the viewers (or readers if this was written haha) able to take things in a better perspective and understanding. Thank you so much for these interviews. They inspire a lot. Looks like to have the cowriters in one call was a great decision, the mood became so friendly and idk creative. They reminded what I loved in conversations with the people whom I made something with in stage direction or writing, etc... probably a sign, lol. To me modal mixture also was one of the reasons I got into kpop and stayed here. It's so colorful, and often in unexpected ways. And the way Dream are balancing their concepts was one of the reasons to stick with them. Now that Moonshine mentioned they weren't used to create bg songs when they wrote Diggity everything went on its places... it didn't really feel as agressive as NCT tried to present it, more like a bright song with some dare in it. Not a bad thing. Now can easily imagine RV or f(x) doing the chorus. And Bungee is just incredible. So much work and life came into these songs... cool that you are helping to appreciate it.
