Adrian Newey is the most successful designer in F1 history - and among the best DESIGNERS in the world. Having drawn up some of the most dominant cars in history.
Today’s fans will know him from Red Bull success, but he has won over the 13 world championships. With teams like Williams and McLaren. Over those years, the signature ‘Newey design style’ runs through - even up to this year’s DOMINANT Red Bull.
Look at this. At the front nose of the dominant RB18 from 2022 - and the chassis has a distinctive V-shape around the drivers feet.

@@sinfinate9433 Most of the drivers would drive for free to be in a Newey car. So, it’s still a bargain, especially when you consider money produce by the points and sponsorship attracted from winning the WCC / WDC is worth hundreds of millions. That doesn’t include the value he keeps adding to the team/organization itself. Imagine what Stroll would being willing to pay for a turn key championship team. lol

@The_ZeroLine
@The_ZeroLine 10 ай бұрын
@@Cynderfan35 I didn’t say they could and Ferrari is the LAST team Newey would ever sign for. RBR understood him as a person and have given the perfect work/life balance (allowing him to step away when he’s burnt out or bored with F1) as well as equity in the team and the power to not be overruled by business execs outside the team. He knows what a cluster f Ferrari is, how they’d expect him to be there 24/7, how they’d interfere endlessly, etc. Stroll probably did offer him some insane amount if given the chance. So, $25m is nothing.
@The_ZeroLine
@The_ZeroLine 10 ай бұрын
@@Cynderfan35 BTW, my point about Stroll was that $25m is nothing when you consider how much Stroll would be willing to pay him or a team he was committed to. Newey is more valuable than even having Max + Alonso driving as drivers can win in a decently competitive car, but they can’t design one.

still I wonder if people ever looked at it the other way around: instead of Newey making the cars that made his drivers champions, maybe he had some insane drivers driving his creations (Mansell, Prost, Vettel, Verstappen, Hakkinen) which led to his cars winning? I'm not saying it is per se the case, but for instance in 2021 had it been anyone but Max in that car there would be no WDC for RB. Even 2022 if RB had a slightly worse driver and Ferrari hadn't been as stupid they wouldn't have won WDC. I'm not saying this is the case or that I think it is, but it's something we should consider at least!

Indy 500 demands are different from any other oval or race. It used to be back in the day, pre 90s, people would build a car or engine specifically just for Indy 500 because the rules for that race were slightly different than the rest of the series.
@dickfitzwelliner2807
@dickfitzwelliner2807 11 ай бұрын
@Real28 only thing that really changed was that the engines are spec through the season. Now the aero is very different, there's been a huge understanding of drag now so instead of high hp(hope it lasts) engines they are less stressed and they know they can last the distance. While the more hp was more interesting because they could always blow up, it wasn't truly as interesting as a show of driver skill

The undisputed GOAT of racecar design. We all see how good the current RB car is but even when they were in the Renault years Newey had them competitive through superior aero. There have been plenty of great designers over the years but I cannot think of anyone who revolutionized openwheel racecar design over as many eras and disciplines as Newey. He has been winning for nearly as long as the entirety of the current F1 grid has been alive too which is legendary on its own.

12 Drivers' titles, right? Newey's achievements are amazing but I'm sure his cars have won 12 - 4 Williams (92, 93, 96, 97), 2 McLaren (98, 99) and 6 Red Bull (10, 11, 12, 13, 21, 22). If you add Constructors, it's way more than that - his cars have won 11 so total titles in F1 should be 23.

Awesome vid. I’m reading Neweys book ‘How to build a car’ and am at 1997 now in it. Its awesome. Its funny, an adventure, biography, tech book for all to understand, all in one👍 Newey is a visionary genius and a hilariously funny guy as well 🤗

Amazing video. In the end, the quality of engineering is what wins championship. Drivers only account for the last 10%. Engineers like Newey are the true unsung heroes of F1.

People like Newey dont get enough recognition in F1, however he got knighted for his achievements in motorsport. Well deserved!

It's really interesting to see how creative Newey has been through the years, impressive. Also they had so much freedom in the past with active suspension, aero etc. I wonder how fast the cars would be today if they got more freedom. But especially I wonder what innovations they would come up with.

Everyone looks at the drivers to decide who is the GOAT of F1, but with the importance of cars, I think Adrian Newey should be considered.

The RB19 is what you get IRL when your design team knows that F1 Manager bug that lets you turn all the slides on new parts all the way up and still gaining on everything. They've basically done that, except in real life.

The word is overused, especially in sports and ESPECIALLY in racing, but Newey is a legend. I've recently been reading his book HOW TO DESIGN A RACE CAR and it's a great read. His early days in CART/IndyCar are really amazing to read about...here was a 26 yo guy pulling double duty race engineering for Mario Andretti with the legendary Newman/Haas team (yes, THAT Newman, Paul) and designing Lola's Indy Car (after he'd returned rival March to glory the previous year.) And that was just his warm up act. And epically talented ,driven man...and a purely class act on top. We're fortunate as racing fans to be able to enjoy watching the fruits of his labor.

6:18 hearing Adrian say Indy cars at the time were more sophisticated than F1, seems outrageous from our perspective now. It’s sad to think what might have been had Indy not split up in the 90’s into two different race leagues. We might have been privileged to enjoy two premium single seater series at the highest level of engineering. Indy has began to recover in recent years but with cost caps and spec formula it still has a way to go.
