I am a new stamper, love the video thanks. Where did you get the block/pad you stamping on? is it better than the standard metal square?
@AdrianneSurian10 жыл бұрын
I really like the rubber bottom, it absorbs a lot of the noise when you're stamping. It's not necessary for performance, so if you're really trying to save money, you can definitely get the basic block, but if you stamp with other people in the house (like I do), I do like minimizing the noise. This is a link on Amazon to the block I have: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002VTBFQ6/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002VTBFQ6&linkCode=as2&tag=haphoupro-20

Do you know the hardness of the stamping set? Or, can you tell us the brand you are using? I can't read it in the video. Thanks.

+Escape From NY - I see from another post that you recommend Impressart brand stamps but that does not seem to be the brand in this video. I'd like to know the brand you use the most and like the most w/o a link to Amazon. Knowing the hardness would also help. Thanks.

i bought a set at HARBOR FREIGHT ($13) that says it is a premium "hardened" set, but let me learn the lesson for you- they do not work very well unless you are using them on softer metal.

Wondering where to order a lower case set of stamps from - what brand. I’m having difficulty finding a premium hardened set?

Awesome Video! One question...if I wished to use a stamped a spoon around the kitchen, which method would be the best (non-toxic) to oxidize the lettering. I'm not sure Liver Of Sulfur not a Sharpie would be best, however I've read hard boiled eggs (yellows only) are a good method. Again, thanks for the informative video!
@AdrianneSurian10 жыл бұрын
I have heard the same but haven't tried it myself. Just thinking science-y, though - there's a relatively high content of sulfur in eggs. So it makes sense! But here's what you've got to keep in mind: stainless steel (like a regular household spoon) won't oxidize. Only silver (or copper) will oxidize. So you'd have to buy silver or silver plated flatware to even try the egg thing. Another thing I have pondered for silver - I know my silver jewelry will tarnish if I leave it in the bathroom with all the shower steam every day. Copper oxidizes really quickly outside in the damp air, too. So if you have a little time, you can just go the natural route, and just polish it up when it's ready for everyday use. Now - I'm going to tell you my personal opinion on Sharpie, and I know not everyone will agree. I did use Sharpie on my own spoons that I did for Valentine's Day, :) It says non-toxic and so, so little is left on the spoon by the time you're done, that I feel like the exposure is very low. We have even run them through the dishwasher a few times, and the marker stays on. So if it's not letting off even in the dishwasher, I don't think I'm exposed to a large amount. At the same time - I totally understand why people would be nervous about it. In real life, even no darkening of the letters still looks nice. But for photos there's not enough contrast. So trying it without any oxidation is an option too.

Can i use to mark my serial number on my pistol Glock 26 barrel????
@francoisbelangerboisclair2 жыл бұрын
I would not do it. Stamping create a stress in the metal. It can reduce the life of your barrel and/or cause a catastrophic failure. Still, If you want to do it... You should use a low stress stamping set. They are use in the gas industry for marking metal...

I bought the premium set from impress art and they don’t really stamp well on stainless steel is there a secret to this? And I see yours does on the first slam and I have to slam mine numerous times to get the letter right :/
@francoisbelangerboisclair2 жыл бұрын
Stainless steel need a heavier hammer and you need to check the quality of your stainless steel. Cheap stainless steel is pretty soft and nice to stamp. But you can run into high quality stainless steel... It's a pain in the butt to stamp because it's super hard and strong.

Which set of letters do you use on silvery metal? the basic one or premium one? thanks
@AdrianneSurian9 жыл бұрын
+Christèle Manaud it depends what kind of metal. If it's silver or aluminum, either set works fine. If it's steel or something hardened, you'll need the premium set. Personally, I like having the premium set - it's only a little bit more, but you can stamp EVERYTHING with it, soft or hard. Standard stamps can only handle the softer metals.

what size stamps are best? I ordered 3mm which i think looks small.
@AdrianneSurian9 жыл бұрын
Mine are also 3mm, that's the most common size out there. The hardened stamps I used here (that you can use on inexpensive stainless steel spoons and forks) is only available in the 3mm size. It's all just a matter of preference!
