Adrix and Nev, Twincasters are a new Simic (Green, Blue) Commander, joining the Magic: the Gathering multiverse, from MTG's newest set, Strixhaven and Commander 2021. In this video of Jake and Joel are Magic, Joel offers 3 different strategies (for every player) for building Adrix and Nev, each doing its best to utilize this new Commander to the best of its abilities! Adrix and Nev have a unique ability: Ward; this new ability counters any spell that targets Adrix and Nev unless the spell's controller pays 2 more. Let's look at the strong, fun and mean ways to build Adrix and Nev: In the strong category, we start things off with tokens, since Adrix and Nev create double the tokens, followed by fun: Planeswalkers that create creature tokens, and finally, the mean way will focus on Instants and Sorceries that create creature tokens. About the Three-Ways Series:
Some people like their chicken wings sweet while others prefer them scorching hot; either way, you are eating chicken. Magic the Gathering is a game with many different rules and building a Commander deck that works takes some time and strategy. Understanding the commander of your deck will help inform a deck-building plan that works for you. In this series, Joel discusses commander strategies for every player. This broad-strokes approach will give you a basic breakdown of the commander and three different ways you can build your deck to work with its abilities, without providing a full deck-tech.
What is Commander:
Commander, officially recognized on June 17, 2011, originated from a format called EDH (Elder Dragon Highlander-- there can only be one). The first time we played EDH was around 2009. It is easily the best way to play Magic: The Gathering. The idea was to have a casual format with 100 cards and only a single copy of any one card, with a General: a singular Legendary Creature card in its own zone that can be cast any time, once you have the mana for it. If your general is removed, it goes up by a casting cost of 2 for each time it is removed. Once WOTC officially recognized the format and printed the first Commander product, your General was instead called your Commander and instead of the format being called EDH, it instead became recognized as Commander. If you ever hear anyone say EDH, they are talking about Commander. Make sure to know the cards that are banned in the format before building your deck (listed below).

Fable of the wolf and owl, works for all three, Just saying it can be played in the fun decks, mean, and well the powerfull it can get out of hand I'd you have any token doubler, or cast multiple spells... there is also second harvest for a finisher/ baiting out the board wipes.

@@JakeandJoelareMagic a lot! The way I see it going is by abusing it's effects with mana rocks and cards like Lotus Petal earlier and then move towards extracting value from larger artifacts, like Panharmonicon.

Came back and watched this again. Finally playing Adrix and Nev in the Jake and Joel are Magic commander league. Definitely a fun deck. I went the Strong route though. :-)

So, I just did my first pre-con upgrade over the past few weeks and this was the one I chose. Wanted to keep it under $100 total, so instead of going all in on things like Parallel Lives and Doubling Season for creature tokens I went with "what various kinds of tokens can we make?" I've got cards that make lots of Food, Clue, and Treasure tokens. Tireless Provisioner, Tamiyo's Journal, Academy Manufactor, Tempting Contract, Spell Swindle, Wolf's Quarry, Progenitor Mimic, and Skyclave Relic are all cards that don't just make small creature tokens, they do something different that Adrix and Nev will see and double. Hopefully this deck will be fun to play with.

Hell yeah- all these ways are awesome for this commander! This is going to be a really crazy creature to see on the battlefield, i would add some food synergies and giant opportunity to get 7/7 giant tokens and thassa bests the sea god to get multiple 8/8 krakens. Pure Token Jank😊 Esika's chariot will undoubtedly be a good add and orvar as well. I think this will be a hugely fun commander and will build it. I really like your planeswalker theme version- that is epic! I didnt even think of avenger of zendikar, rampaging baloths or vivien- er my gherd! Expect this card to hold some value. Oh- did i mention esior and anara will be awesome in this build too?🤣

Esix, fractal bloom and twin casters are great cause of cards like avenger of zendikar. With esix, the tokens you made from avenger can be turned into more avengers if it is the first time you would make tokens that turn. Twincasters then double the resulting number of avengers and the plants they produce. If you only had 7 lands, you’d make 14 0/1s that can be turned into 28 avengers, making an ungodly 392 0/1 plant tokens.

I was thinking Spell Swindle is pretty nice, budget Mana Drain? A few others that come to mind: Lazotep Plating, Spark Double, Bow of Nylea + Garruk's Uprising, Champion of Lambholt, Biomass Mutation, End-Raze Forerunners Murkfield Liege could work nicely with creatures that tap to generate tokens, Wilderness Reclamation can work with land Aura enchantments that tap for creatures too (Seedborn Muse works for both)

Helm of the host: Tokens / Number of Adrixes First token: 3 Second token: 11 Third: 2059 Fourth: 2^2059+2059. This is more than a googol. This number can also eaily be reached by mutating on top of Adrix and Nev, then using copy token spells. Overrides legendary rule.

I'm gonna have to build Adrix and Nev Token makers and Copy effects. You know what's better than Avenger of Zendikar with Adrix and Nev out? Casting Quasiduplicate targeting your Avenger of Zendikar with Adrix and Nev out. You know what's just massive spiraling value with Adrix and Nev in play? Progenitor Mimic. Rite of Replication becomes even more crazy. Cackling Counterpart gives me two of the best creature in play. Imagine having Adrix and Nev in play, then playing Clone Legion.

I'm surprised u didn't mention any clue and/or treasure shenanigans. I think this would be a bit more unique strategy than the typical creature token strategy. I don't know however how many strong cards that make this kind o tokens there are since u don't want to play weak cards just cause they make clues/treasures. And yes i know this is a Simic deck so no need to try to ramp & draw like that but i think it would be nonetheless an interesting way to build the deck.

I'm actually taking out all of the token generators that came in the deck and replacing them with wizard and merfolk token generator, just to keep it on theme. I will how ever leave in the Fractal generator, but I feel that is kind of on theme.

For real. That card will win games so easy when paired with the right creatures. Besides Avenger I like hornet queen and terrastodon with it. Target your own stuff with terrastodon and get 6 more terrastodons then have fun. The backlash could be bad but worth it.

I am surprised you did not talk about this commander with cloning effects such as sakashima etc. Clones are also considered creature tokens so they will be doubled. That is why I chose to go.

This is not accurate. 706.1.: Some objects become or turn another object into a “copy” of a spell, permanent, or card. Some effects create a token that’s a copy of another object. Clones are not tokens, they are cards unless the clone effect specifically states it is or creates a token. See Cackling Counterpart as an example.

nope, just straight multiplication really (from reddit) "If you attach the helm during Main 1 on turn N, you'll have 1+(2^1)=3 during combat on turn N, 3+(2^3)=11 on turn N+1, and 11+(2^11)=2059 on turn N+2. After that it's essentially infinite."

F Simic and F wotc for pumping green way too much and the blue green commanders way too much, to a point where half the ppl you play edh with have aesi decks. Its stupid to make commander cookie cutter and its dumb when everyone is running simic decks and barely any other color combinations. I refuse to run green and refuse to run simic; its a cop out and is too easy to abuse and net deck.
