Love that you mention the Yakuza series here, but you left out that it also contains one of the greatest examples of actually very blatant advertising in games: In the series spinoff Judgment, there's an entire sidequest chain that is straight-up just an ad for the Japanese steakhouse chain Ikinari Steak, where you meet and befriend the actual then-company president as an in-game NPC-- and I'm not gonna lie, it's so blatant that it comes back around to being actually kind of brilliant. I unironically adore that substory.

the ninja boy game is’ KAMEN NO NINJA HANAMARU’ but Hanamaru’s design is clearly based off ‘Kamen no Ninja Akakage’ or ‘Masked Ninja Red Mask’, based off a series by Mitsuteru Yokoyama, who created Giant Robo and Sally the Witch. Akakage was referenced in the Giant Robo OVA as another red masked ninja with a similar name, but as an antagonist instead of a protagonist. kinda like the noid who was the enemy in the commercials but is the hero in the game

I first saw you when i was 14-5, it was about how 28 days later would be a effing badass game (Which it still totally would). I am older now and so much happens in between your uploads i completley forget that i ever watched you. However each and everytime your little headass pops up into my feed, and i hear that voice on that Yoga ball you send me straight back to that feeling of fu****ng Awe about everything related to gaming or music or whatever the fu**, that feeling of it being new and exciting and like not a bad place all the time. The Yakuza series really tried to make the player invested in it's world as it puts you in a tiny window of what it's like in the nightlife of Japan From all it's minigames, how people interact, and the fact I can go to a convenience store - buy a can of 7up and just ef off and do anything else that has nothing to do with the story It does feel like you're just playing as someone going out on the town after a long day.

im playing through the yakuza series right now and i just started yakuza 3. i can vouch that its honestly immersive as hell that it took me a while to realise that they were technically ads lmao. i think part of it is just how true to life it is and all the brands and products are diverse enough to not feel like youre getting shoved in the throat with a specific brand. (though as an asian i can also tell that a lot of them do come from the same company) none of it is like. weirdly placed or anything either. ive never been to kamurocho or sotenbori irl but it feels like a really accurate representation of the towns and the sort of stores youd see there too. like wow of course id find a gindaco takoyaki stand here. so far from what ive seen in okinawa in y3, theres way less product placement and way more small businesses. really does feel like a small beach town
