The wolf was to signify Fox's realization that he truly wasn't a wild animal. He was using his "wildness" to justify his behavior throughout the movie, but the wolf showed that it just isn't true. He's not wild, and he has to adapt to the world he exists in instead of pretending to be something he isn't, because that's the only way he can keep his family in his life.

To explain the wolf scene, everyone has a different take on it but here's mine: The whole film Mr. Fox believes himself to be a wild animal, a fox that, as he says, that can't be happy without a goose in its mouth. But he's so much more than just a wild fox. He is a father, a friend, a husband and was part of a functioning society. He's not wild at all, he wears clothes, drives vehicles and even speaks/reads English. The wolf is the turning point of his character, because he realises in that moment that he doesn't have to be a wild fox to be happy. The wolf, which does not speak, it lives in the cold harsh mountainside, and even that walks on all 4's, is truly a wild animal, and Mr Fox realises at this moment that happiness is not found in his 'wild side'.

I had one book on cassette as a young child, and it was this one. I listened to it about 40 times. And this movie adaptation knocked it out of the park. All the charm of the original story, with plenty of funny, well meshed additions.

This movie has such a great cast! George Clooney, Meryl Streep as mrs fox, Owen Wilson as the whack bat coach, Bill Murray as the badger lawyer, Willem Dafoe as the rat, Michael Gambon (aka Dumbledore) as Bean, and even Wes Anderson himself voiced the weasel real esate agent! This is such a nostalgic movie for me, and its even better as an adult. One of my favourites ever :)

Wes Anderson is such a great director. He has directed many live action movies that are really good too. Grand Budapest Hotel is my favorite Wes Anderson movie. I love all his films. Moonrise Kingdom is a good teenage romance movie. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is what I call his Yellow Submarine. Darjeeling Limited is a good film. Royal Tenenbaums is said to be his best movie by many critics. Rushmoore is good. Bottle Rocket is his first movie which is good.

I think the black wolf is the same as the one in call of the wild. It's the calling to symbolize there's a wild nature about all of us deep down. N to not forget where we came from. That we're part of nature.

I think you would love all of Wes Anderson's movies. He's one of my favorites. He made one other stop motion movie called Isle of Dogs. It is fantastic and uses most of the same voice actors. He has also made some great live action movies like Moonrise Kingdom, Grand Budapest Hotel, The Royal Tennenbaums, The Life Aquatic, and many others. He has a regular cast of actors that are in most of them, such as Jeff Goldblum and Bill Murray.

He also did another animated movie called Isle of Dogs, which I bet you'd enjoy. As for live action, I suggest The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Royal Tenenbaums, and The French Dispatch (just to name a few). It doesn't really matter which one you watch first but I think going in release order would be a good way to experience the evolution of his directing style, storytelling techniques, and visual aesthetics.

It gets a lot harder to empathize with Mr Fox when you reflect that he brought all this on himself. The farmers had never done any harm to him or his family, and he robbed them. One detail it took me YEARS to notice: when Ash and Kristofferson are caught in the kitchen by Mrs Bean, she puts her glasses on. When Mr Fox et al hide from her when they're in the basement, she doesn't notice them because at that time, she wasn't wearing the glasses.

To answer the question about the author, Roald Dahl, yes he also wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Roald is super well known for his stories and his books have had several movie adaptations through time. The BFG, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Matilda and as a cherry on top he wrote for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
