4-12-2019: I did a crazy amount of research on the Honda Passport and the iVTM4 AWD system. It's quite expensive at $10K more than a base model Subaru, but you definitely get what you pay for. I strive to give the light off-road community "KEEPING IT REAL" content. This was a Fun Camping Weekend out at the Calico Silver Mines in Yermo, California. It was very nice meeting alot of you guys that have commented on my KZbin channel.

***Update 4-22-19*** I've created a playlist of all the video's I found useful when doing research on the Honda Passport: kzbin.info/aero/PLOUus4YoLuarLZE9zN4L9tHMGxLgGT_cj It was amazing meeting everyone at the Calico Camping Trip. Many of you are people that have commented on my KZbin Channel or Instagram. My goal is to support the light offroading community. This goal is basically aligned with what MtnRoo believes in, using our vehicles to better experience the outdoors. Although the MtnRoo is centered around the Subaru brand, to the core, this group is open to all vehicles. Many Brothers and Sisters branch off to other brands. For example, our tour guide Tactical Tony use to drive a Crosstrek, but now he drives a Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. I wanted to give a shout out to all the people I met in person: Chris and Nacho - SK Subaru Forester Ramon - Subaru Baja Turbo Rob - Jeep Wrangler Aaron - Subaru SJ Forester XT Big dude with the charcoal - Subaru Forester XT (sorry, I forgot your name) Henry - Subaru SJ Forester XT Moodz - Subaru Baja

I'm always wondering why so many people that buy 4runners or Tacomas rarely or never go wheeling with them and don't really have much use for the few benefits of a body on frame vehicle. Many of them would be much better off with the value and real world practicality in my Subaru or your Honda, but it's america and apparently trucks are all that is man or something like that. Anyway nice video. The capability of your passport is pretty damn impressive!

@@Deeboskim you are right about that. Why waste money of 4wd, low range, lockers, etc. The thing is it looks like he's a person that should have bought a Tacoma or 4 runner, Wrangler, etc. I see the mpg issue being referenced alot but let's not forget about resale value. The higher resale value of the Toyotas and Wrangler will close the gap of overall cost. Top it off that he would actually benefit of the better offroad capability it should be a no brainer.

Mark Keller I feel like Honda is totally keeping the offroad capabilities a secret. Honestly, most people think the Honda Ridgeline, Pilots and Passports simply have the same AWD system found in the HRV and CRV when they actually have mechanically the same AWD system found in 2016+ Acura’s. They really should let the general public be aware of iVTM4, especially since the CRV is getting dogged by automotive journalist for being a vehicle to avoid due to reliability issues.

@JonDZ_Adventuring 5 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry bruceyyyyy 😭!!!! Well actually, Honda still offers that same “junk” AWD system in the HRV and CRV. The iVTM4 system is only offered in vehicles on the “Honda light truck architecture”. This is an “upscale” system and is mechanically similar to 2016+ SH-AWD. The lowest price point to purchase an iVTM4 equipped vehicle is about $35K. This isn’t meant to compete with an entry level Subaru, but it will compete with a 2020 Outback XT Onyx. Bruceyyyy, you and me both know what we can expect from the 2020 Outback XT. All modern Subaru’s since the 2012 Impreza boasts similar capabilities (which isn’t a bad thing!!). Keeping it real, the Passport is a cut above. I also need to point out, that while the Honda Pilot and Ridgeline share the same iVTM4 AWD system. The transmissions differ! Only the upper trim 2019 Honda Pilots have the 2nd gen ZF9 speed transmission. All Honda Ridgeline and Lower trim Pilots have the Honda 6 speed. The crawl ratio is only 14.3:1.

@@JonDZ_Adventuring That Onyx sure is tempting. If it comes with the VTD TR690 it might be enough to push me over the edge. I'm still not sure if that dual mode x mode is a marketing gimmick or not. I haven't seen someone push the new fozzy to it's limit yet. Otherwise yea, It's like they built that car just for me. Having no car payment sure is nice though. We took a friend with us in a "4WD" CRV a few years back. It seemed to be front wheel drive only and he would have to spin the front wheels a lot for the rear to kick in. Maybe it wasn't functioning right but after that I was never really impressed with that Honda AWD system so I kind of wrote them off. Thanks for showing the differences here!
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 5 жыл бұрын
bruceyyyyy Dual Mode Xmode is legit! The guy in the 2019 Forester observed improved capability in dirt and rock mode (correction, snow and dirt). From the sounds of it, it basically addresses the CVT issues people bitch about, it actually let’s the wheels spin a bit more to get over more difficult obstacles. Everyone WROTE OFF Honda’s AWD system, and if an informed and intelligent individual like yourself was unaware that Honda had a different AWD system reserved for their more expensive SUV’s, then there’s no doubt, the average consumer won’t know either.

Dayang Demar I hope you make the right decision. If you want to hard core off-road, the JL wrangler is a solid choice. If you’re like most people and spend 90-95% of your time on pavement and go off-road to do activities and explore. The passport can be a solid choice. I just want to make sure you know the wrangler is a purposely built off-road machine and the passport is a unibody SUV that is capable than most crossover/SUV’s except a Jeep Grand Cherokee & body on frame SUV’s.

First, Thanks for the video and the effort it took to create it. Second, my observations of having Low Range, having switched from Forester to Grand Cherokee, The Low range Transfer case is a godsend. Take the torque of your engine and multiply by 2.7. When I start up a 35deg hill, it will be in 3rd gear crawling, if I need more power I still have two more gears available. It is able to keep me in the sweet spot of the powerband, and when descending a hill it has 2.7 times the engine braking than if I was in 4high. (gear ratios are very short, top speed in 8th gear is 45 I think)

John-Okc, the difference between my 20.4:1 crawl ratio compared to my Foresters 14.4:1 is a night and day difference and this video will prove that. I can only imagine how awesome a 50:1 or even an 80:1 would be like! When I had the FJ cruiser, I wasn’t familiar with the concept of offroading. I just knew that the 4-L knob would make the SUV go really slow 🤣. And the 4-H would sap away 30% of my power.

Yes I'm 5 min. into the video and fully agree with you. The one negative of this drivetrain is, temp. lock out. As all of the locking/semilocking up of the rear drivetrain is happening in the rear of the vehicle it is not getting cooled like a Subaru center hydraulic multiplate is with all the transmission fluid helping to maintain temperature. Overall though this may never really lend itself to be an issue. This is cooler than cool. Passport has excellent cargo capacity! Excellent AWD system, plenty of naturally aspirated power. The only questionable thing is the transmission.... But sounds like they have fixed a lot of the earlier bugs from debute in 2016.....hopefully

Love the video. Very impressive for both the Passport and your mods/driving. I'm not sure about your snorkel comment. You said it must be useful because you don't have dust in your air vents? The cabin air comes in at the base of the windshield and goes through a filter behind the glove box I think. You might want to check that filter after a trip or two to the desert. The intake you showed is only for the engine. You'll find that dust in your engine air filter. And the bigger concern for that height is water intake. Sorry if you were joking about that, I couldn't tell from the video.

Thanks James Wyatt! Ha! About the snorkel comment, I don’t know how where the cabin air filter gets it’s air from. I’m just happy the dust is kept out. Finally, some more great off-roading with the Passport! Keep up the good work... Do you have to worry about this new 9-speed transmission kicking-out do to overheating on some of those rugged roads?
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rick!, the Passport has the 2nd generation ZF9 speed transmission. The problems with the 2016-2018 Honda Pilot 1st generation ZF9 transmission overheating was due to cross contamination between coolant and transmission fluids. Those issues should have been resolved, so, to answer your question, NO, I am not worried. Honda handled the issue very well, upgrading the gaskets and sensors that lead to ZF9 transmission problems. Now regarding overheating on rugged roads, I think you're referring to a separate issue. On the TFL (The fast lane car/truck) a 2017 Honda Ridgeline overheated going up a moderate hill. Here's the video link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGbIdmlvbMake8k First of all, we don't know how sustained the hill climb was, TFL didn't disclose that information. Second, they left the Ridgeline in Sand mode. This locks the rear Differential and has a more aggressive throttle map (higher RPM). Third and most importantly, Honda Ridgeline's have a different transmission, LOL!!! The Honda six speed has a 3.359 First gear and 4.25 axles. This equates to a 14.28:1 crawl ratio. That crawl ratio is lower than my 2015 Forester XT's crawl ratio of 14.41:1. My Forester XT's transmission temp would constantly hit a damaging 240 degree's fahrenheit. During this trip to the Calico silver mines, my buddy in the burgundy Forester XT hit a max temp of 240, my max temp was 207 in the Passport. I was taking more difficult trails too! Even though I'm happy with the transmission in the Passport, I'm still going to purchase the Honda Heavy Duty transmission cooler just for added peace of mind.
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 5 жыл бұрын
For reference, the Honda Passport has a 20.4:1 crawl ratio. If Honda uses their 10 speed down the road, in this vehicle, don't worry! It has a 5.25 first gear ratio and 4.17 axles. Crawl ratio is even more impressive at 21.89:1. You can get this in the new Acura RDX!!! Wowzers!

Hey Zach, I do not have the HD transmission cooler. I actually haven’t had any issues with my transmission temps getting high. 207 Fahrenheit max going up a really steep long hill. Although I plan to get one,... I really don’t need one unless I start towing things. The Passport has the same 9 speed transmission as a Jeep renegade trail hawk. I haven’t heard of those having overheating issues. I think many people confuse the Honda 6 speed and ZF 9 speed. The Honda 6 speed is actually prone to overheating.

D. Alex Oprea that’s correct! The taller tires are a 6.8% increase, changing my crawl ratio from 20.4:1 to 19.0:1. It’s still really darn good! And the benefits from a taller tire will edit: typically outweigh the loss in wheel torque. A taller tire means I can more effectively air down. A taller tire also means I have more ground clearance. A change from 8.1” to 9.1”. I have 9-1/4” clearance at the rear diff support bar. About the lift kit. I have it ordered and will attempt to install it next week. I’m going to stay quiet until the installation is successful.

@@dixy2k I love my slightly modified 2019 Honda Passport EX-L as a daily driver. Compared to the FJ cruiser and 2015 Forester XT, it's a much comfortable ride. The cabin is a nice place to be. The VTEC V6 is unbelievably powerful. How can a little 3.5V6 move a 4200+ vehicle 0-60 in 5.8 seconds (according to Car and Driver). it always amazes me. I feel like there's some kind of forced induction system built into the engine. Honda's V6 seems to be a solid 1 second quicker than it's competition. If this will be your daily driver, then passing power might matter to you :P I'll be lifting my Passport next week with a 2inch front and 2inch rear lift kit. @@JonDZ_Adventuring The transmission has a lot to do with the perceived power it puts on the pavement. It does not need to wind up and take a long time for the engine to get into the power band as with many other cars with less gears inside the tranny. Having so many gears closer in ratio, the engine stays in the power band more often than not therefore it does not struggle to "get up to speed". Imagine you are driving a 4 or a 5 speed tranny car but you are able to manually change gears and you hold a gear for longer than normal. Kinda the same effect here. My SUV has a 2.80 first gear and 1.53 second gear. It's a huge drop in RPM due to gearing and the engine feels it struggles. It needs time to wind up and get back into the power band. It feels sluggish. Does the Passport and Pilot share the same suspension? Will the lift kit made for Pilot fit the Passport?

@@dixy2k about the transmission, I know, I just find it very impressive. Vtec helps too, and Honda easily makes one of the best 3.5 V6's in the business. The Ridgeline lift kits are compatible with the Pilot. According to Honda Marketing, the Ridgeline's suspension parts are 50% different(more robust) than the Pilot. This leads many to believe that the lift kit will also work with the Passport. Just as long as the strut top hats are the same shape, the lift kits should work. I'm going to be a guinea pig! How did the 2019 Forester do throughout? Any signs of struggle and improvement that can be done?
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 5 жыл бұрын
It was 100% stock, and as you saw, that wasn't exactly the easiest trail to take one on it's christened voyage. IMO, the 2019 Forester did great! I've been watching video's comparing the new 2019 Rav4 and the 2019 Forester. My observations is that the Forester still has a better AWD system, and is more ready all the time. However the 2019 Rav4 with it's very aggressive first gear has a Superior drive train, it does better for climbing steep loose gravel hills. The 2019 Forester struggled with some of these steep climbs with loose terrain. The stock tires were the culprit and with upgraded tires, the Forester will do much better. So there's definitely room for improvement. According to the driver of that 2019 Forester, the dual stage X-mode worked great. He said he was able to notice a difference when he used Dirt and Snow mode during his lose gravel hill climbs. From the sounds of it, if you're choosing between a 2019 Forester 2.5 or a 2020 Outback 2.5, I think the Forester is the wise choice for offroad. It's silly that you have to buy an ONYX edition, just to have dual stage xmode in the upcoming outback. There's going to be lots of Blacked out Outbacks, I hope they made enough!

@@JonDZ_Adventuring I appreciate your feedback! AT tires definitely, would've made a difference tackling that terrain. I just ordered wheels and G015 tires to go with it so i m excited for that. Yea it is silly for only adding the dual Xmode on the higher trim levels, but the 2020 Outback does have the option for the XT trim and I wish that they did include the turbo on the Forester as an option as well. I'm glad youre happy with your Passport and i'm very surprised at the capability of the Honda. Hope to go overlanding with you all after i complete my upgrade.

Rob Mascarinas oh man! I was so bummed when I found out Subaru would not longer offer the turbo in the Forester. So the G015 is a tire that served me well. It’s excellent on ice and not to shabby on snow. I think it’s main weakness is rock and loose gravel 😦. While it is a slight improvement, I found a tire like the Hankook DynaPro’s to be so much more grippy on dirt, gravel and rock. Don’t worry! Thanks 🙏🏻! I’ve been asked this question so many times. Well, I’ll tell you this. Hands down, the Passport is a better vehicle in street driving, and I think anyone would agree. It’s also bigger and has 20% more interior volume. It also can truly get 24 mpg while driving at 70mph on the highway while the 4 runner will really get 15 mpg doing 70 on the highway. The only thing the 4 runner has going for it is it’s offroad capability. Now, seeing how capable this Passport was, how much more capability does the average adventure seeker need? There’s my answer. Let’s hope the ALL NEW 2021 Toyota 4 runner doesn’t disappoint! I have friends holding out for that vehicle! By the way, I use to drive a 2008 FJ and I hated that thing. David D the internet is harsh, even on Toyota’s, and critics around the web argue that 4 runners get “Bcuz 13 mpg”. The TRD FJ I drove got 15 mpg if lightly driven. That thing had BFG KO1’s, a large roof basket an undefined 239 hp 4.0 V6, that thing was a hog. I totally can believe a more modern (while still a bit ancient) 270 hp 4runner with updated engine can do a little better. Thanks 🙏🏻, I guess I’ve been living in the past, I’ll update my numbers. And yes! I need to use more momentum on the hill climb. During the chatter with my buddy, I mention crawl ratio and then I mention... “uh, it probably wouldn’t matter, I was losing grip”. That’s the first time I ever attempted a climb like that, I was just trying to get a feel for it. I meant to try again, but since the vehicle Is a relatively new ride, I thought I would take it easy. Even going through that arch, I was babying it. I would inch forward and then hit the brake, inche forward and hit the brake. I wasn’t even two footing it. The whole time I drove like a noob 👶.

David D they gave the FJ a 20 HP bump in 2010 (total of 259hp), then a +1 hp increase for 2011-2014. I guess Toyota keeps revising the engine to squeeze more and more from it. No one is sure what powerplant the next 4runner will have. Some say it may have a performance hybrid v6. Some are scared of the idea of a hybrid (especially during water crossings) but Toyota doesn’t make many mistakes. The 4 runner is designed to be driven offroad (it’s on Toyota’s website) and I’m sure it’ll still be dependable and capable as ever. I really really really do hope they don’t use the Tacoma 3.5. I love the 4.0’s grunt, and utilizing the surging characteristics of that engine was so much fun. Before I purchased my Honda Passport, I actually walked into a Toyota dealership. I found out I wouldn’t comfortable fit in a Modern Toyota Tacoma. The 4 runner was off my radar because I knew that the brand new model is just about a year away. I do find it much more comfortable and spacious compared to the Tacoma. Even at 19mph highway, I just wanting something a bit more fuel efficient. I As much as I wanted to wait, I felt I was in a predicament, and I needed to get into sometime a bit more reliable, and this passport (i felt), fit the bill.

Benjamin Speechly i haven’t had a chance to do a good Highway MPG test on my Passport yet. When I drove him after this trip, I was doing 90 mph going uphill carrying a lot of gear. I probably did about 15 WOT pulls. I ended up with 18.1 MPG. I was just following the speed of traffic (or going slightly faster). When I get the chance to drive up lonely 2 lane highways like the 395, I tend to just cruise at 72 mph. I really have the feeling I’ll be hitting 22-23 mpg. I know the Passport is rated at 21 city / 24 highway, so “how can I possible barely lose any MPG’s?” Well, I have 265/65R18 tires, and OEM equipment is 265/45R20. I have an OEM wide tire. So in actuality, the only mods that would reduce MPG’s would be my cargo carrier and the more aggressive treads in my tires. Bigger displacement engines respond to wind drag and friction much better than a turbo or smaller engine. I’m hoping to do a good test soon. I’ll let you all know in a future episode.

Shuffle3956 😃 haha! Thanks Shuffle!!! I took college level physics and I sure hated that class! So, correct me if I’m wrong, but a tire of greater weight will roll down a highway more efficiently, once that heavier object is in motion, friction will have less impact, and a taller diameter tire will, in its own way, improve gearing, thus improving highway MPG’s. That’s how it works right?

Thank you! Good to know! Now, I need you to confirm something. My experience modifying my 2015 Forester wasn’t exactly the best experience. I tried running a roof cargo basket but I lost 5-9 mpg depending if I was driving 70mph or 80mph. I just noticed that the vehicle was so finicky to mods. I figured because the engine had a small displacement and a small turbo, my FXT was constantly in boost due to the increased friction of the tires and the increase wind drag of the cargo basket. Before I purchased the Honda Passport, I had this hunch that this bigger vehicle, with a bigger engine would respond to modifications much better. So far, it appears that my hunch is correct. Can you confirm this?

Shuffle3956 uh oh! So when I checked my tire pressure after driving from our campsite to the gas station I was at 30 psi (cold, i should have been at 25 psi). I aired up to 42 psi, with the goal of getting my tires to 38 psi after tire cool down. I check my tire pressure this afternoon and I was at 32!!! Super low! Oem psi is 37. I’ve aired up to 40 psi because I like to slightly over inflate A/T’s, plus, with all the extra weight I carry, that sounds about right! Pretty crazy I was still able to get 18 mpg calculated driving 80-90 mph with under inflated tires. I can’t wait to do a proper test at 72mph when I drive 270 miles from Los Angeles to Fort Independence up highway 395. Total elevation gain is 3500 feet. This is segment I love to use to measure highway MPG’s. When my 2015 Forester XT was stock with stock tires, I was able to hit 25.2 mpg, so I’ll use that as baseline.

They are incredibly capable machines and can take on way way more then the average Joe thinks they can

Yep Ryan 👍, and Subaru owners are aware of that (well, we.. I use to be one... give the nod to the trail hawk versions). So, when I found out the Honda Passport has the same 20.4:1 crawl ratio as a renegade and Compass, I was very very excited! My goal with this Honda isn’t to compete with a 4runner or Grand Cherokee, my goal was to hit that renegade/compass capability in a larger more powerful vehicle that could achieve 22 Mpg highway at 70mph. I think I hit my goal! Thanks for keeping it real 👌

firebir11 are you talking about the issue with the previous gen Pilot and 1st gen Ridgeline? The 2016+ Honda Pilot, 2017+ Ridgeline and 2019 Passport have a different AWD system called iVTM4 instead of just VTM4. The way the rear diff works is different. They can handle more sustained heat. The shocks bursting due to constant stress was also another issue that was addressed. Here, watch this, very interesting stuff. Watch as a Honda Ridgelines Shocks survive the washboard roads of California's Mojave desert. Accompanying the Ridgeline is the Toyota Tacoma TRD Offroad and as a recovery vehicle, they brought the Nissan Titan XD. The Ridgelines shocks survive, the Tacoma TRD offroad had all 4 shocks blow out, the Nissan titan had all 4 shocks blow out. You’re going to school to day, and you’re very welcome 😃. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYi8onifo7N6i68

Im planning to buy this. But my eyes are on 4runner, anyone that have this. Is it reliable? How good is it on really long road trip? Is it comfortable? How is it on the snow? Performance?. Thanks, would appreciate y'all feed backs about the car itself.

Mine died too man 😢. I’ve been meaning to do a video on how my CVT died and how Subaru owners can protect their CVT’s, but it’s hard to find the motivation. I’ll make it one day. I feel the 2.5 guys will have a harder time destroying their CVT, but look at what happened to hijack Secondary and his 2018 Forester 2.5. He destroyed his CVT too. I think the best way to look at how much abuse a CVT can handle is to look at how much of a turbo tune Cobb was able to run on the FXT and WRX. It could not handle anything past a stage 1 turbo tube. So knowing that, if you have a CVT Subaru, don’t push it too hard! Don’t lay into the gas pedal! If you fail a steep hill climb, just let off the gas, back up, and use more momentum. If your stuck in deep snow or mud. Get out and shovel yourself out. The CVT is NOT for enthusiasts! There’s different levels of enthusiasts. Let’s break down these levels to stage 1, 2 and 3. Treat your CVT Subaru no higher than enthusiast stage 1 (just like a Cobb tune). 44:30 is the perfect example, the Subaru’s that could handle a stage 2 Cobb tune went up on the rocky side. A CVT Subaru is still a great vehicle, just know it’s limitations and keep that transmission alive! I hope this helps! With all this said, will Cobb offer a stage 2 tune for the 2020 Outback XT? No? Well, you better baby the thing then.

OMG!!! You’re Subaru Ambassador SubieN8 !!! The guy with the burgundy Forester XT that was featured on TFL!!! Geez... I know so many people with 2014-2018 FXT’s that have had their CVT’s go out 😭. It’s really sad. The newer FA24DIT engines are still using the same TR690 HT-CVT, just with improved small parts. So hopefully they’re improved enough. From one car lover to another, It truly breaks my heart to see people go through these problems.

That’s me! I miss it though. Yeah my trans was replaced at 17k. Oh well. I’m about to lift my Legacy 2” and another inch with taller tires. It’ll remind me of the Volvo CrossCountry sedan. Loving your Passport, by the way!!!

Chase Short okay, I’ll give you a real answer. Watch this video, go to the end where actually start doing Kramer’s arch (the easy way): kzbin.info/www/bejne/anWohp-JqLKlas0 How much more capability do you need and is that extra capability worth getting 9 mpg less? My slightly modified Passport is still getting 23 mpg highway at 70mph, compare that to a stock 4runner getting 15 mpg highway at 70mph.

@@JonDZ_Adventuring I have 08 GX470 V8 (AKA Land Cruiser Prado) and I have a 2.5" lift kit on it. I still get 19mpg at 70mph on the highway. Are you sure 4runner gets 15mpg on the highway? sorry but I wish you should've have gotten proper offroader and dependable truck/SUV instead of trying to modify HONDA.

I use to drive a 2008 FJ cruiser. TRD edition with the same 4.0 V6 as a 4runner. Do you have experience driving Subaru’s or Honda’s? And why are you so concerned with what I drive? Why do you want me to deal with steering deadzone and float? And.... 15 mpg? I’ll take your word for it, that your GX470 can get 19 mph highway. I guess it makes sense, Ford will be putting in 8.0+ liter v8’s in their upcoming super duty’s because they get better highway MPG than their smaller v8’s.
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 5 жыл бұрын
Also... a 2.5 inch lift will reduce MPG’s by a fraction of a MPG. It’s the wider tires that will end up eating away at MPG’s, also the switch from Highway/terrains to All/terrains. **So are you running highway/terrains?** I respect Toyota, they just don’t make a vehicle I would want to buy right now. That can change in the Future.

Lucky you, I enjoyed my 2015 Forester XT because, overall, it was good vehicle. The Subaru AWD system and the addition of X-mode was so good, it made up for the deficiencies of the CVT. You are right! Give these modern Subaru’s a proper transmission and greatness will return! Even without a rear LSD, I think they’d make it up the Obstacle I crawled up. Xmode basically locks up the center diff, the brake based AWD system would probably be enough to power up the obstacle, just needs a transmission to actually put the torque down. There’s no sign they’ll be giving up on the CVT. They’re getting really long in the tooth and starting to reach ancient 10 year status. Let’s see what Subaru announces about the new WRX/STI. If the new WRX ditched the CVT, there will be HOPE!! If the new WRX’s still have the CVT, then hope is lost for another 5 years.
