Asai Karate: Kihon ippon kumite for the advanced practitioners: 2024 Mumbai seminar
浅井空手: 上級者向け基本一本組手・前蹴りに対する技:下肢で外受け、同じ足で蹴る又は突きで反撃:インド・ボンベイ講習会
The techniques of blocking the strikes and the kicks, with the leg is popular in Asai karate.
It is considered as a high-level technique; it is not practiced in most of the Shotokan dojo.
I have done many dozens of seminars, but this was the first time I shared this technique.
The key points of this technique:
* Be sure to keep the hands up near your face. Otherwise, your face area will be completely open.
* You do not need to bounce the opponent's leg too far. However, the timing of the block is critical. It must be not too soon or too late.
* The counterattack either by foot or fist must follow immediately after the block. You will catch the opponent punch if there is a long pause after the block.
There are a few leg blocking techniques. One is Soto uke 外受け (shown today) and another popular one is Uchi uke 内受け.
I am not sure which one is more challenging, but I consider Uchi uke method is.
Other popular but more challenging foot/leg blocking techniques are the blocks using either the inside or the outside of the foot.
Both of these methods are more or less, leg Mawashi uke 足の回し受け. In other words, you need to circulate your foot to block.
I have not shared these techniques at my seminars yet. Maybe, I will do so in the near future and share them here one day.
By the way, this technique shown today can be found in one of the Asai kata, Suishu 水手, Water Hand.
