I have only played Advance Wars on a Game Boy Advance emulator I have on my phone...and I fell in love with the game series. It was so good. Quite frustrating at times, particularly so with Sturm(he scary with that music) But I still love the games. Got Black Hole Rising as well and will play that after. I would love to see this game series return. It would be amazing.

That's not what i was trying to imply with that comment, what i meant is that Fire Emblem has gotten so popular that advance wars got overlooked. Fire emblem has gotten 5 new games since 2008, one every two years (with the exception of the time between awakening and Fates where it took 3 years). while the Advance wars hasn't gotten a game since 2008.

Intelligence systems and Nintendo are in the perfect position to revive it with the switch given the success of the switch and fire emblem. Caio Coelho What do you mean it replaced it, they don't play anything Al and both series existed together for years. You act as if Fire Emblem came out of nowhere to take it's thrown when both were considered niche around the same time and fire emblem by no means scratched the same itch as advanced wars. Plus again it might be dead now but if anything fire emblem proved that these tactical games can be extremely successful and escape their niche demographic.

Since the FE and AW worlds don't overlap in either way (and AW being a bit more simplified than FE so the tactics aren't equal), and FE gaining momentum in West, it wouldn't be hard to think that AW someday would return...I hope :/

Personally, I always felt the wars series felt far more strategic and more enjoyable than FE (due to lack of RNG crits and leveling), so I agree that it's unfortunate that FE is getting games and not the Wars series.

It's weird that people went out of their way of translating the non-localized FE games, but the AW games that didn't come to the west are rarely mentioned.

Most of the wars games before Advance Wars don't really hold up too well. Even though an English translation for Super Famicom Wars was released recently, there's much more incentive to translate the non-localized FE games since they act more like RPG's and are much more narrative driven than most of the Wars series.

I think it mostly boils down to the difference in narrative scope. The early FE games are plot-heavy enough that a translation is really needed to understand what's going on, especially in cases like FE4 where the whole Holy Blood thing is gameplay-relevant. On the other hand, story in most Advance Wars games is like story in a Doom game--it's just an excuse to play the game.

Remember that Nintendo of Japan has long held a low opinion of the idea of international audiences; 'it's too complicated' is a not-uncommon justification for why some titles and series never made it overseas, regardless of however complicated the original was. Having played quite a few said titles, however, I find that it often was not nearly as complex as they believed. This opinion is not limited to Nintendo either; just look at Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.

The music for all the Advance Wars games are absolutely incredible and still worth a listen to today. What they could pull off on a dinky GBA soundchip was really impressive and they really helped bring to life the different characters and armies of the series, the drama of the storyline as well as getting you revved up for combat. Really wish they would bring the franchise back, there's a big hole in portable gaming for a simple yet fun strategy game.

Not-so-Fun Fact: In both Advance Wars games for the Advance , along with Dual Strike, the computer cheats against you during Fog of War battles by knowing exactly were all your units are & can even fire upon them while hidden. This handicap hinders the player by making you send out scouts & infantry on top of mountain terrain to reveal enemy units before attacking them, but the computer isn't held to these restrictions. The only entry in the series where the computer doesn't cheat & knows where all your hidden units are is Days of Ruin. AW Days of Ruins has a darker tone, but the story itself is at least solid. There are plenty of moments that I really like, and it tries to not be too dark. Plus, through the hint system, it has a decent amount of humor. There isn't a hard mode like in the previous 3 games, making some levels difficult, especially the last level.

I sadly feel like it wouldn't be as good as the GBA titles are. In AW 1+2 they had the perfect balance between complexity and user friendliness/easy controls, good music, likeable characters and a simplistic yet good looking artstyle.

Keep the setting of AW to the pixel art of gba but do a FE6,7 and 8 type story AW2 is the best with that regard days of ruin was fun and works if for the fact that it was post apocalypse AW.

I agree. Though probably because of the infinite replayability of Advance Wars, with the skirmishes and whatnot. It doesn't help that they spammed FE's on 3DS either! I felt that decreased FE's appeal, to me at least.

I also like Advance Wars' approach of giving you faceless, disposable units that you could produce more of rather than the unique, permadeath characters of Fire Emblem. Disposable units encourage you to use strategies that you'd never even consider in Fire Emblem due to fear of a character dying and you having to start over.

Advance Wars is a top 4 Nintendo IP for me along with Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. I absolutely, undeniably, unapologetically love this series and it pains me that Nintendo has abandoned it. The series took everything I loved about Command and Conquer when I was younger and made it a turn based game. The fact that Fire Emblem has become such a massive franchise while Advance Wars has been dormant for years saddens and angers me, because Fire Emblem started off as a spinoff of Advance Wars and the latter is a superior series to me. The combat is so deep and engaging and the games are so damned addicting. I would do anything to see a new game on the Switch, but I'm not holding my breath. With Fire Emblem making Nintendo so much money they have no need to work on another turn based strategy game.
