There’s an old interview I read somewhere between 2008-2011 regarding Final Fantasy Versus XIII where someone (I don’t remember who, maybe Nomura) talked about their vision for the game and it sounded interesting enough for me to still remember it well over a decade later. He had essentially said he wanted to create a 1:1 scale city that could be fully explored, interacted with, etc. and made it sound like the whole game would take place there or close by. I’ve never really tried searching for it again but I’m always thinking about it anytime I hear about games that never materialized. It would be interesting to see a video with this same premise for Nomura/Kitase/Sakaguchi/the Final Fantasy franchise as a whole.

i mean this with the utmost respect, I felt like it was quite obvious in this video that the narrator was reading material written by somebody else. of course, that's how scripting usually works with voiceovers, but it doesn't really change the fact it felt distracting at times - almost like he wasn't too familiar with the material before recording the voiceover yk?

I feel like it's a bit strong to call Akari trans. Japan has a history at least as old as Utena of girl characters wanting to be "cool," but have been lead to believe that the social constructs of "cool" and "cute" are mutually exclusive to boys and girls respectively, so they like to dress in boys clothes in order to better fit that image while parents want them to conform. Other times there will be characters that were admittedly like that and grew out of it once they become adults, kind of like desistance IRL. Applying that label to a 6th-grade middle-schooler is kind of preemptive. Then again, I don't know if the author explicitly stated it as such on a tweet or instagram post or something, so comments feel free to sauce me up if I'm hella wrong.

So, about Akari in How I Became a Pokemon Card. The last page of Akari's chapter does show them wearing a skirt. From what I heard, Akari wanting to be a boy is believed to be because of gender roles ad wanting to be "cool". And Akari is "outgrowing" being trans, which was pretty common stereotype at the time of the manga's creation. That's sort of why I'm going with "they", as I don't know if this information is completely true or not.

I tried Mega Man Legends, but found the controls difficult. It had a wonky way of just walking around, right? I also just could not get into the aesthetic of the game at all, having just come from playing the Mega Man X series, which was and is my gold standard for Mega Man
