From Leo: Good video that shows with good lighting and photography. As someone who has actually done this, the editing makes it look a lot smoother than it is. LOTS of difficult to access bolts, in lots of sizes. It is critical to make sure they are in the right place. Allow lots of time. And Patience. If the engine bay was maybe 3 inches wider, it would not feel like you are building a ship in a bottle.

Right ? I would’ve thought replacing the water pump on a VW Vanagon would’ve been FAR more involved and the Ford job would be simple … . This is surprising.

This is a very basic video, Doesn't go into any detail about anything. I would recommend completely taking the alternator out of the engine compartment to avoid damaging it in any way. He didn't mention that the belt tensioner takes a good bit of force to release plus you need a #50 Torx bit to remove it. Also, since this is a transverse mounted engine, there is very little room on the side you are working on to get tools and hands in. Be careful you don't scrape your hands. Another thing I did on mine was make a diagram of the serpentine belt routing and on a piece of cardboard I traced the gasket and punched out the bolt holes to put the bolts in as I removed them to make sure they got back into the same place. Other than that all you have to do is reverse the order to reinstall the pump.

Yet in the video, he was able to have enough room to do the job.

If you change the water pump be sure to also change the timing cover gasket. Some of the water pump bolts also hold the timing cover in place. You most likely will have a coolant leak from the timing cover once you pull and replace the water pump.

To be honest here it was a very informative video because we used it to do the water pump on my Taurus but one thing we had to replace our lower radiator hose get rid of the stupid garbage spring clamps go to a worm style gear clamp works so much better reason why I say that is because the lower radiator hose popped off during bleeding and made a mess so different clamps make the difference

Hello.. I just watched your video and I must also add that it does indeed seem very professional and well done but I have a question which was also mentioned in the comments and I did not notice any reply so I figured I would ask in hopes you will know. I have this exact car and it is leaking from the upper left top of what I thought was the pump but after further inspection it appears too be the gasket behind the spacer of the pump to the block. (if there is one that is?) I'm sure hoping you'll know as I am getting ready too do it soon. Would sure appreciate some input about this. Thx! Al

Sounds like timing cover gasket one of the common coolant failures on these ford Taurus with higher milage and if it still has the factory oil pan seal or cork seal, that needs to be changed as well. If it has a rubber seal should be ok not having to do that.
@barbmelle3136 Жыл бұрын
From Leo: That is the timing cover. It is Aluminum, the block is iron. It gets corroded am pitted there. Some people reattach with lots of glue, that works for a while. If it is heavily pitted, order a new cover and gasket from Ford. It is way too much labor to have to do again.

Would be great if you uploaded a list of bolt sizes removed in this process...
@brandonbanks43943 ай бұрын
8mm for the small bolts and 13 mm for the larger bolts. Also take the 8mm out first and then the 13mm. Put them back on in reverse order there is one that is hard to put back in on a bracket so just back it enough to get it off and it will be easier when put the new one on. Yw

I found a water pump in advance auto parts for $18.00 with 2 year warranty + $14.00 50/50 (2 gallons) antifreeze, + a safety glass scrapper knife and silicone gasket maker for $7.00 at Walmart. My car have 270,000 miles and still running smoothly. Everything start with the heater core lines leaking (which I replaced it too, for $9.00 from a savage yard).
