Hi, just wanna say I love your videos and they’ve been invaluable for me as a New Yorker who grew up lived here most my life, BUT as a young child came here from British Hong Kong. So, the R colored vowels, dithongs and triphong are where I’m deep in now with accent/dialect/vocal instructor. I’m in actor workshops and the accent that has passed fine most my life now needs work on for roles I’d like to be cast in that have neutral accent. Ok maybe tmi, but I just wanna share the helpfulness of your videos. I do a small request. I looked through all the videos and can’t find “V” and “W” sounds videos. I apparently, without knowing, been mixing the two. If you guys could do videos on the two sounds it would great and much appreciated! Thank you again!

Hello Sir! Could you please clarify this for me? People often pronounce "teacher" as if it were transcribed like /ˈtʃiːt͡ʃə/ whereas it is /ˈtiːt͡ʃə/ The "d" in "do" is also pronounced as a fast d or a flapped d even if it doesn't occur between two vowels. And these words "thing" and "thin" in my linguistics book they teach us that when vowels occur before nasal sounds or consonants they are nasalized the difference in these two words is that the "ng" is /ŋ/ and the "n" is /n/. The nasalization in this case must be well made, right? Thank you!
@SoundsAmerican6 жыл бұрын
+Eazzy William Hello there! Sorry, we don't hear that pronunciation in the US. The /t/ and the /tʃ/ both begin with the /t/ sound, so maybe that's why they sound similar to you. Please note that if you pronounce the word as "cheacher" it a mispronunciation! In conversation, there's no real difference between the flap /t̬/ and the /d/ sound, so if you make either it should be fine. About the "thing" and "thin" - yes, this is true. And it's correct regarding the nasalization.
@eazzywilliam76666 жыл бұрын
