Alot of folks put pads on the Superposed and other collectible guns and don't realize how much it kills the value. Really enjoy the videos !!

I bought my Dad a new Superposed 12-ga Grade-1 in 1969 (had a good job). He shot many rounds hunting and trapshooting, then gave it to me in 2012. I took it to a gunsmith to replace the safety, and when he examined it he remarked, "I think you have a warranty issue here." Sure enough, he found salt damage and suggested I send it into Browning. Dear 'ol Dad still had his warranty card. I got a call from Browning about 3-weeks later and they offered to repair it, or send me a brand new Citori Lightning. I chose the Citori. Perhaps that was good Karma, but you have to give Browning credit for amazing customer service and credibility.

Very interesting! These videos are GREAT! I even watch the ones about guns I don't have! Learning a lot!

Excellent video, as a former collector of Belgium A5's I always wondered about salt issues in those guns as well as the Auto 22's.

Great info , I’ve purchased several Browning superposed and safaris all in 1969 era ,with your help I went in informed , made a bad purchase prior to finding your channel lesson learned , a lot of these gun shops know and don’t inform you , I won’t go back there it’s a shame.

Very useful information. I have noticed this before on hi Dollar guns. Even saw a Rem. 552 that was of little value as a collector because it was pitted so badly. Suppose air moisture is all it takes. I blamed it on them being neglected. Now I know how it happens. Thank You.

I bought a 1966 T-bolt .22lr saltwood gun. Didn't know about salt then but the butt plate screws rusty and one dime sized patch on the barrel under the wood. I didn't pay too much luckily and now I store the stock off the rifle when not using it.
@mikeproctor3664 Жыл бұрын
Years ago I had a T-Bolt T2 that had salt wood. It was sent to you by way of Browning to be re-stocked. Came back with not so good wood, sold it as I was worried the salt issue on the metal would return

Wow. I've read about the salt wood issue in the past but hadn't really thought much about it since. I guess the next time I think about buying a Browning or any others from that era I'll look extra close. Also, who needs a recoil pad on a 410?!

@parrisgeorge97083 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong but I think they built 1 prototype 16 gauge when the Superposed first came out. It was on a 12 gauge frame and the 12 gauge barrels were modified into a monoblock with the 16 gauge barrels soldered into it. It was something that never made it into any production.

This is real eye opener. I never knew of this. Great info, thanks. I have two questions. Does Browning acknowledge and make any attempt at compensation for guns found with this condition? Also, since you plan to sell the Safari, will you be disclosing this info to any potential buyers?
@thephotoyak3 жыл бұрын
Yes Browning acknowledged it and will replace/repair for the original owner. Being that they were sold for about 5 years in the late 60s/early 70s, not to many are still owned by the orginal purchaser.

Guy who owns it is transsexual and didn't wamt to chance rubsureing one of his titties when she shot it. Notice how i was respectful in identifying her. How do you identify mam, i shoot the 410 with a recoil pad, made for a woman shot by a man that thinks he's a woman.
@prevost86863 жыл бұрын
Sounds like they were trying to make country ham out of wood blanks. I sure don’t get why they put a recoil pad on a.410
@geraldswain32593 жыл бұрын
Doesn't take much imagination to see why ,they have put the pad on to lengthen the stock , the cheapest way to do it ! .
@14goldmedals2 жыл бұрын
The stock looked shortened quite a bit to fit someone small. Then the recoil pad added for the simple reason of "recoil". My psychic guess is long ago that beautiful shotgun was bough by a rich man for either his wife, a child or even a grandchild. Money means nothing to a man so he can have someone he loves to take hunting and target shooting. Regular men do the same for their loved ones just finding cheaper guns. I've seen many shortened shotguns of small gauge over the decades come up for sale. The majority were guns for the well to do of the era the guns were made. Today's collectors only see the money but I bet that little gem will be bought by exactly the kind of man I described due to today's ability to advertise worldwide. And it won't sell cheap.

Urban legend salt is not used to dry wood only dry air works.. salt would attract moisture from the air not the wood... this lumber came from trees that grew in salty water so the salt was in solution in the fibres not pressed in by force...

You are talking out of your rectum you fool , salt applied to anything porous will draw out water and then absorb the salt .Also walnut trees will not grow in any form of salinity .
@briankeith922 Жыл бұрын
So then i guess all of these guns that had this problem were the ones that were stocked out of mangove trees, or is this just urban legend? Have you ever seen a walnut tree grow in the ocean?
