I started with a simmons sd9k and being around all my friends who are very good percussionists made me really regret going the electronic route. They're a little cheaper and quiet, but they lack many characteristics which are only available through acoustic sets. Just something to think about.

@Spacecowboyy hey man, i am in love with Halperns playing too and just had an online lesson with him via Bandhappy. A lot of his grooves are based on linear patterns between kick, snare and hats. Try playing ghosted singles between the hands and feet and adding a accented back beat on the 3. Played at 16th's between the snare and kick - skskskskSksksksk skskskskSksksksk. Same thing with doubles - sskksskkSskksskk sskksskkSskksskk. Hope this helps, they sound awesome up to speed!

Question: I have watched the full ghost notes series (beginner-intermediate-advanced) and I can do excersise 3 at 50bpm, but not a 100 simply because I can't make the drumstick bounce quick enough on the snaredrum. My question is: is this caused because of a bad snare drum tension or something else that has to do with my kit, or is it my technique? I am so eager to learn this, because then I can make rolls with my right hand and ghosts with my left, and that's what I want to learn. Thanks a lot!
@animalmanband3414
@animalmanband3414 6 жыл бұрын
It might be your technique. It’s important to learn how to freeze down the stick quick enough to hit the ghost immediately after it while still staying relaxed.

The only 4 exercises you ever need to develop your ghost notes, are all 4 variations of paradiddles played between left hand and right foot, with 8th on the high hats.

I never understood why drummers make such a big deal about these ghost notes. The rest of us musicians just call them ... DYNAMICS
@zaxo212
@zaxo212 7 жыл бұрын
hesingshesobs ghost notes should be barely heard at all. he's purposefully making them loud. Other musicians also use ghost notes, especially jazz saxophonists trumpet players and so forth. its actually possible to truly ghost a note on instruments that require breath, on percussive or string instruments I guess u could just call them dynamics but still there are slight differences
