Mayo is it viable to use the explosive barrels during combat? Because there is an ability to get ammo from explosive barrels.

What i like about remote detonation is that when I start shooting a lot of rockets and trying to score direct hits, if they side step or dodge the way cyberdemons [oops, tyrants] or pain elementals do, I just detonate the rocket and fire off another real quick, making it easier to lead the shot sometimes if its me that is moving in the air.

This really makes me think of Halo Combat Evolved deep combat mechanics: having played that game for years i have mastered timing my shots precisely to keep an enemy faltered and create openings for combos like sticky grenade, melee, headshots, multikills or allowing for a retreat or controlling space like a punishing mechanic in a fighting game. I think you should cover that too if you have experience, people really underestimate the potential of Halo CE especially more arcade shooter players, as they don't see that a good part of the combat is not just the mechanics but the tactics and ai. Ps I noticed you have played halo a couple times but i assure you that Halo is just as deep as doom eternal, when you understand its dance. Instead of giving you different mechanics to play with it instead makes you use your brain to make the mechanics yourself

Things to take away from this video 1- Faltering System is more complex than I thought 2- Need to start using Remote Det and can use lock on whenever needed 3- SFIW pronunciation 4- Wawawawa laser

It's actually intense how technical Doom Eternal's gunplay is. Like, it's become a cliche to say that any given game has "innovated" or "revolutionised" in whatever genre it might belong, but this may be the first time in a very long time that I honestly think it'd apply.
@chad762

I can 100% agree with that statement. I may not be very good at the game, but i can still admire how deep this game's combat system is even though i haven't finished my first nightmare run yet.

Nope, it is an old thing, just take a look at quake, live or champions... Arena fps have always been extremely skill based, hard and deep, some are based on resources management and some others are based on area/items control, doom is an excellent and deep game, but not the deepest. The point is that it's one of the few mainstream arena titles out there, so many people who didn't know the genre are finally starting to appreciate it, and I'm happy about it, even if it's not my case... I've been facing the deepness and the difficulty of these games for years, just like many other experienced players.

@@bitffald well said, I started playing unreal tournament 2004 when I was a kid. Been hating on most fps games since then until doom 2016 and eternal truly saved me where quake champions failed too!
@bitffald
@bitffald 3 жыл бұрын
@@weaudihere6460 Thanks, yeah I gotta admit that quake champions started out weakly, full of issues... But right now it's so impressively balanced and skill based that it could blow your mind, sadly it's not a popular title, and there are few unsolved technical issues, such as optimization and stuff. 1v1 and 2v2 are obviously the best and most competitive game modes...
@purebaldness
@purebaldness 3 жыл бұрын
@@bitffald whilst I'm absolutely with you, I think an important distinction to make is that Eternal is single player focused. Quake's depth lies in the multiplayer. Sure, you can strafe jump etc in the campaigns but they were never made with the weapon mangement, map control, advanced movement and all the hallmarks of Quake deathmatch in mind with the exception of rocket jumping Whilst most of Eternal's systems aren't new to arena shooter veterans, I do feel that having them all accounted for in a single player focused game makes OP's points more valid than you'd think. I hope I'm making sense

This reminds me of my experience with DMC3 and Bayonetta. When you start, there are way too many options and you are being overwhelmed by everything. The more you dive into it, the more you perfect your understanding and reflexes, eventually reaching the point where you can not only mow down armies of enemies with pure skill, you can do it in style. Its very cool that Doom Eternal takes you on a similar journey.

This is why i just started the other day with DMC 1 before going to DMC 3 and eventually to 4 and 5, as i wanted to get a feeling of how the game plays with the relatively simpler mechanics. Good decision since the first few hours i struggled to even survive

The visuals and word choice made this one of, if not the most, educational video you have made. Extremely well done. Only thing I would change with the visuals would be adding a picture of the demon you are talking about to it and showing the 'destructible demon' effect as the health bar goes down. I can only assume you spent way too much time on this, but myself and others appreciate what you do for and with the community.

Doom Eternal just has so many awesome mechanics that it really implements so seamlessly that you can't even tell until you really sink a lot of time into it, and that's just so cool. So the fact that you brought attention to it really helps those of us who are still learning the subtleties of all of this. Thanks for the well made videos as always Mayo.

I was aware of the falter system and after watching some videos, picked up hints and tips. Yet there was something I was missing, something I was not seeing.
