Analogy - If you paint your car or bedroom and living room walls in your house too many colors, what would happen? I like traditional jazz that keeps/works around the melody more - isn't that why the most popular thing is listening to the human voice. Just like speaking English or any language or writing a novel, using the largest words to communicate doesn't necessarily make it better or more enjoyable. For example if soneone were to say, "im going to perambulate around the block" instead of "I'm going to take a stroll around the block" i like much better the latter. If soneone were to say "it's good to promulgate your esoteric cogutations" instead of "it's important to express yourself" which is preferred? The first sounds ostentatious, overkill, peculiar, muddying the waters, etc.. In recent years, jazz pianists and guitarists et al have become infatuated with all the extensions and additions and throwing in e extra chords in progressions such as tritones etc and intellectualizing music..... Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do it or it's better. Congrats on holger being a musical genius but i enjoyed the original song less in proportion to added intricate complexities.
