BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE ARTICLES - Learning how to use the DEFINITE ARTICLES in Portuguese may seem a bit challenging, but it is a matter of practice. In today's lesson, you will learn that while English has only one Definite Article ('the') Portuguese has four of them - 'o', 'a', 'os', 'as'. You will also learn that regarding use, there are some similarities between both languages, but there are also some differences, for example, in Portuguese you must use definite articles before seasons ('o verão').
It is highly recommended that you rewatch the lessons on Genders since Definite Articles in Portuguese must agree in gender (and number) with the noun referred.

Portuguese loves articles so so much. It uses them literally everywhere, even before proper names! I know no language that uses articles more often. Perhaps only Arabian may compete with Portuguese in this aspect, but I am not sure.

This has been very helpful. I've been fumbling with articles and now I understand when to use them. In English we don't use articles in some of these circumstances, like before a country, state or even town, we also would never put them before a season or holiday. For the longest time I've wondered why the heck am I putting "the" in front of this word. Obrigado por tudos os seus videos.

Olá Wendy, tudo bem? Well, unlike English, Portuguese doesn't have auxiliaries (e.g. do / does / did / have...) in negative sentences or questions. Take a look at the following sentence in the past. 'Ele estudou ontem.' - affirmative sentence (He studied yesterday.) 'Ele não estudou ontem.' - negative sentence (He didn't study yesterday) 'Ele estudou ontem?' - question (Did he study yesterday?) - By the way, when speaking, there is a rise in intonation toward the end. If you want to add a wh-word, easy breeze. Quando ele estudou? (When did he study?) Onde ele estudou? (Where did he study?) 😊

Obrigada professora, tudo bem?

Ex. As Kardashian têm um programa de televisão. 😎 Obs. Sua escrita está ótima! 😊
