Alright mate, absolutely love the track, any chance you’d be welcome to working on a more aggressive bassline speedy g version
@Bthelick6 ай бұрын
thanks. Do you mean a different , more aggressive version of this same track? or are you asking for a tutorial on the harder stuff in general, in a later video?
@bennosharp50596 ай бұрын
Well originally I meant a more aggressive version of the same track, I’m quite interested in trying to release a single with either one or two remixes/reworks included. But also while you’re asking it would be interesting to see how the more aggressive stuff is made, I’m more into my underground sound so producers such as Prozak are a great example.

@@bennosharp5059 hmmmm ah I see. Thing is i wouldn't choose those chords or samples for an aggressive track, they are too jazzy/fluffy.

Can you do a tutorial on the bass? The midi the patch and the processing.
@Bthelick9 ай бұрын
I already covered this particular sound in the Top Tech House bass sounds 2023 video. The patch is there to download. There is no processing specific to the sound other than side chain. I also made a video called "how I process bass" which will show you the rest. I did have a little eq dip on this one, but that's an ear education thing. Any tweaks I made here are specific to this mix, in this key, for this line, in this octave, at this tempo, for this sound. so pointless to teach unless you're going to make this exact track and mix with the same kick , drums, key, vocal etc. In terms of bass processing that I do every time, none. Every situation is bespoke. I usually don't do anything. As I say in all my tutorials that touch on engineering, it's about getting the sound right, then you don't need any processing at all. (Except the side chain for the sub)

@@Bthelick awesome. Thank you for the detailed response. Great work out here!
@DJ_DIMSIM9 ай бұрын
How would you recommend us figure out the chords of a sample?
@Bthelick9 ай бұрын
Well lots of ear training is the best way currently (called relative pitch training). You have to start by figuring out monophonic melodies first, until you start to learn note distances. That should lead to recognising bass movements, which gives you 75% of the clues, and eventually you'll get an ear for multiple pitches. There are software tools like ddmf's chord detector but it has the same limitations as all other polyphonic pitch detection that I mentioned in last week's video. Good ear training sites are listed in the description.

Is there any way we can get the drums ?
@Bthelick5 ай бұрын
Yes there is a way to get them, just go to splice and type "uk garage drum loop" you will find hundreds just like it!!! If you are seeking these EXACT SPECIFIC drums then there's a problem and we need to have a chat about sound selection and ear training!! because there are no good or bad samples only good or bad contexts.

When you mention progressions like 6-5-1, does this account for inversions or does the inversion matter? Does a bass note help an octave down?
@Bthelick9 ай бұрын
Inversions can change the emotion somewhat, just not as much as a different chord. Octave of the bass note is down to aesthetics, and purpose. Like you wouldn't want the bass too high in a club track, but not too low for most speakers

Does every track need a chord man I feel like I’ve made a track that doesn’t have chords or any piano that sounds quite nice
@Bthelick3 ай бұрын
No you don't need chords. I did a video on that very topic. There are whole genres that don't use them. But any track with a moving baseline will usually _imply_ chords though even if they aren't actually played, because that's how harmony works. As soon as the melody above a bass plays a different note to that bass a chord is created regardless, so you don't need an actual chord part, but technically chords are underneath all musical interactions.
