Edit: I was not worried too much about the bucks because their best closer in Middleton was injured and they can't guard our shooters as well as the celtics. Ws went 3-9 on the season against Denver, Memphis, Dallas combined. They went 12-4 against the same 3 teams in the playoffs. This is the first time all season that GS has even remotely been close to fully healthy. That 83% chance of Boston beating GS is largely based on regular season data. Not saying that the Celtics can't win this series, of course they can. Their defense is going to make the Warriors work much harder than they've had to in the playoffs. But GS also has a much better defense than people think. And their rebounding, for a small team, is extraordinary. No, Boston isn't going to cruise through this series. They're in for a bumpy ride.

As it turned out, holding Boston under 100 in 4 games, including the last 3 in a row, indicated GS had a heckuva D, and it's not just Draymond. Wiggins was great on D, so was GP2, Klay held his own and Steph has improved a lot from 2016 Steph that was great on offense but a big defensive liability. Looney did well too. This Warriors championship team may not have quite the offense earlier versions had when KD was there, but this defense they have now is far better.

I think this game would come down to which teams can limit their turnovers the most cuz both teams have awful turnover numbers in a game but the Dubs have that many amount of turnovers due to their passing and motion game which made them so tough to defend while the Celtics has these turnovers most of it is due to individual errors. And also, Steph’s gravity on offense is so tough to match due to his movements off the screens and his ability to relocate to his spot, making the defense have to double him most of the time thus leaving guys like Klay and Poole wide open. I got the Dubs in this year’s Finals on 6 or 7 games at max.

Warriors will win in 6 or 7 for five reasons: 1. Finals experience (obviously) 2. Coaching (Steve Kerr is proven championship-level coach, while Udoka is a first-time head coach) 3. Better role players (Jordan Poole's breakout season and Wiggins found his rhythm this season and chemistry with team) 4. Team chemistry (Warriors still have the same championship big three) 5. Home court advantage (Warriors have only lost one out of 5 Finals series that the Warriors have homecourt advantage, and we all know what series is that) Not hating on the Celtics here (and I love both the Warriors and Celtics), but it's hard to bet against Golden State with these reasons. But it will take the Warriors 6 or even 7 games because of the Celtics' superb perimeter defense.

They got a couple of day to refill the tank a little, but the warriors might come back rusty for game 1. Negatives and positives for both sides

The games are low scoring because they exert more on defense to slow down the game and play more in the half court offensive sets, then execute the fast break on turnovers. The Warriors don’t play as well when slowed down and forced into the half court. It’s all about controlling pace and the Celtics have managed to do that consistently, except when battling Giannis. But that’s a different story than making defensive stops on shooters. Defense wins championships. Warriors are also elite defensively, but they have a major size disadvantage which will give Celtics more of an edge on both ends of the court. The only thing that will lose the series for the Celtics is if they are shooting inconsistently, which has definitely been the case over the last two series. I agree the fatigue has set in on them, but they are also getting the biggest break they’ve had thus far in the playoffs. Jaylen Brown has been super sloppy with the handles lately as well. Again, I think the series is determined by the Celtics ability or inability to knock down shots and be consistent offensively. If they don’t get that under control, I think the Warriors will take it.

I have the Celtics in 6 or 7. This is because at the end of the day the Celtics have their flaws, but they’ve grown throughout this whole post season. Bucks and the Heats aggressive defense really exposed the Celtics. But if you watched game 7 you can really see how tatum and brown learned to take better care of the ball and make the right reads. One thing people are forgetting is that Payton Pritchard didn’t play much the Miami series because jimmy butler would target him. This won’t be a problem during the golden state series. His 3 point range really allows brown and tatum to work. Same with grant Williams, minutes were limited due to foul trouble during the Miami series and Nets series but you could see how he shined during the bucks series. A team without someone like Kevin Durant, Giannis, and Butler: players like Payton Pritchard and Williams can play comfortably on the defensive end. Mark my words this will be the difference that will allow tatum and brown to take over the game. One thing that will scare me is if the warriors get igoudala back, and you never know when the splash brothers including Poole can get hot because the Celtics force you to take tough shots. This series will be come down to bench production or who will have the hottest shooting performance between tatum/brown and Steph/klay/poole

Kerr learned his lesson in 2016. Regular season is regular season, winning enough whilst having all players and gameplan ready for playoffs is key. A playoff win is a playoff win. NBA advanced stats are still somewhat biased. Ex. Warriors in Playoff 2022 Net rating is underrated due to their losses. They didn't really care about losing in 3 of their 4 losses.
@MEDVE19782 жыл бұрын
I don't really see any exceptional traits of this Celtics team, to me these are good but "grey" team players. I have watched a couple of games from them, they were very inconsistent in the offense, albeit being very good defensively. They showed some flopping skills against Milwaukee, hope that will not be the case in the Finals (but I think considering Marcus Smarts flopping history it is rather optimistic). On the other side GSW has a nice chemistry if they catch the rythm and have a lot of spectacular plays. It is a really deep team with good role players. I think if the Celtics would win it would mean the team playing a boring basketball would win.

Statistician Nick Silver's FiveThirtyEight prediction is based on player ratings. At this moment, full strength rating of the Celtics and Warriors are # 1 and # 14, respectively. In other words, while the Celtics have top talented players, the Warriors' player talent level is pretty much middle of the pack in the NBA. Not surprisingly, the Warriors have been underdog every single round of this playoff run. It's a miracle they're even in the finals. That's why the Celtics have 83% probability of winning the finals, according to FiveThirtyEight.

Generally agree with most pts & would like to add to Tatum's problem of inconsistent efforts on D, esp complaining & stayed on the off end way too much & let opponents go 5 on 4. Example: G7 Heat series he went casually double team Herro with RW already on him & in position. Gave up a basket as Herro passed it off. He has a tendency to fall down after trying to do layup, & complain. He had a corner 3 shot & he was miring his shot & missed & STILL standing in the corner with his follow thru & slowly react while the 5 on 4 already started. These kind of events costed the Celtics at least 3-4 baskets which is about 6-8 pts. Now 6-8 pts in playoffs are hard to come by, esp against top tier defenses. Adding thos TOs he created, esp live ball ones with careless passes, that's easily another 4-6 pts & that's 12-14 pts free to your opponents!!! If Tatum changes all of the above, & what you've commented, & Brown reading better on the defense & take what's offered, I don't see how the Warriors can stop them effectively as Celtics are bigger & more versatile overall & stealth on D

@@makgeoff uh, the Celtics don't face a team like the Warriors in the eastern conference either ......🤣🤣 Last I checked the Warriors weren't too shabby on defense. @makgeoff2 жыл бұрын
@@philobeddoe8342 The team plays with more heart, strategy, good execution wins. So I'm just as happy if it's the Warriors or the Celtics. I just want to see good fight between them, & not affected by injuries & lack of concentration (which I hate most with Tatum). I don't doubt one bit it'd be a different challenge to Celtics as Warriors' offense is a totally diff animal compare with prev 3 series with consistent & relentless cutting & movement. Celtics already had a taste of it in reg. season @ Golden State first half when Curry was not yet injured. That suffocating D caused them problems, while, Warriors played excellent D as well. If you haven't watched it I'd suggest you can watch the 1st hafl as that's how basketball should be played. Now is the playoffs so we only had a small glimpse of what it'd be. Both teams played hard that reg season game as it's a challenge for them to test the matchups before playoffs where they might meet. In this comment, I'm saying the Celtics, if cleaned up all those mistakes & be 93%+ mentally focused, will definitely give Warriors fits. On offense, Warriors do not hv many Celtics players they can attack on. Conversely, Celtics can attack Curry & Poole with size if in PnR switches. If Celtics throw a GW/Brown/Tatum/Smart/Horford lineup in there, they hv all 5 excellent defensive players who can shoot 3s with adequate height & great defenders. That will present a challenge to Warriors which they have seen so far in the playoffs. Whether they can handle it or not remains to be seen. Surely, if GP comes back, that'd be great help on D. I also wonder if Kerr will still use a lot of Looney + Green on floor at the same time. as both are non 3 pt threat I think he will do that with Horford & RW on floor to start off the game but not when GW + Horford on the floor. It's too bad that Wiseman is unavailable or this Warriors team will hv v little weakness.

FiveThirtyEight writers have discussed in the past (like before the 2019 Finals) that their model potentially underrates the Warriors because it really dislikes Klay Thompson, even going so far as to see him as a net negative. Klay's injuries also reduce* his rating as players coming back often aren't as good, thought this is potentially over-weighted as modern treatment may mean older cases aren't as relevant. *I believe it's still reducing his rating as they talked about it when he was coming back and I don't think he's played enough for that influence to go away, but I haven't seen them address it recently.
