Hello, just getting started with this game and found your video helpful. I noticed at one point you changed the aim of your shot due to intervening trees. The rules do say that if a ball contacts trees in flight, it stops and does not roll. My confusion on this point stems from the fact that most folks seem to play by figuring out where the ball lands by applying the distance on the vertical axis added to the distance on the horizontal, without regard for the exact path the ball took. But then how does one know exactly where a ball hits the trees in flight? And I presume this rule does not apply to hitting balls out of trees, as then you could never hit it back out (I take it the rule is more ""a ball not already in trees must stop if it contacts trees"?) Just wondering about your thoughts on this. I have had some difficulties with the written rules and so have been relying heavily on playthrough videos such as yours to learn the game. Great video, many thanks to you :)

Hi Dave. Awesome video about playing mats. I liked the last one for APBA hockey with a timer. Please, is it possible to get a template in jpg format somewhere? Thanks for the answer and I wish you a nice game, best regards Mirek.

The 93 Jays were loaded, too. Probably the last time you'd expect to no-hit.

Great to see you back! I have watched your videos over and over. Got me to finally buy APBA hockey to try it out. It takes me a while to play. Thinking about doing the final game of each playoff teams. What do you think? By the way your videos are awesome. Loved the Hans that you played three different games the one game, fun and entertaining.

The Strat-O-Matic advanced hockey board game is so much fun it's almost a crime against other game companies.

What a great tutorial! I bought the APBA hockey when it first came out in 1993 and loved it. I hadn't played in a bit and dragged it back out recently. Thought I'd check this for a refresher course. The game has changed somewhat from those days 30 years ago and Dave has done an outstanding job of telling how the game is played. And the ending of his Caps vs Vegas was great! Thank you for doing this. I'll be watching this a lot to get revved up for rolling hockey again!

Hmm. I'm trying to figure out which Hockey board game to buy. I've been looking at Hockey Blast and not sure if I should get that or something else. One thing that seems odd is so few line changes in Strat-O-Matic Hockey. If there's 30 cards in the action deck, 20 mins in a period, so each card represents like 40 seconds right? So shouldn't you have a line change like every other card drawn to make it realistic? Just seems odd to have so few line changes per period.

Reminds me of Fast Drive Football… no strategy, no Decisions. Just roll and record what happens. On the fence on this one.

Because of World War II they had to change their name and in 1946 they would have been the kitchen kids no longer the Kraut line😢

Strat Hockey and Basketball were incredible back in the 80s but I never could get into the football and baseball I didnt give a long enough look. I haven't played since 98 but still play vintage sports seasons on my ps5 as NBA 2k23 brought back something called NBA era for Bird, Magic and Jordan erased

Roughly how long is the time period per card? Do you regularly go thru all the lines each period?

Played this in the 70s long before even the idea of once playing sportgames on a PC. But I recall that the board looked different. Even boardgames advance I guess. But it took time to play a lot of games. What a difference on todays PC manager games that can play seasons in a day or shorter even.

Great video...just one question...if you shoot a 3 point shot, should you just you 2 dice for the shooter's 3-point rating (e.g. - 2-7, 9) or should you roll all 3?

Dave - thank you for the post. Excellent explanation! Sounds like a lot of fun to play. I appreciate it.

I downloaded it from an APBA golf tournament face book group, I don't remember its name. I've since lost the file but make photo copies of the ones I managed to make print out of for the courses I own.

I've started playing Strat in the last week and I love it. The flow is great and I am going to give the advanced rules a try. I do have one question. Is it my imagination that there seem to be an inordinate amount of shots on goal? It seems as though every shot is either a shot on goal or a goal as opposed to some shots that don't require a save by the goalie.
