I’m worried about the screws splitting the picket because it’s so close to the edge. I’m also going to use a 1.25 inch overlap. Is it typically ok to screw it in close to the edge? Yours looks great

Usually, about a fingertip's width from the edge is fine, but we have had them split before and had to replace them. Thanks for the comment!

@@BigJakester thanks, I actually ended up doing about a 6 foot section of my fence so far. Some of them split which was concerning. But I ended up buying another box of screws which were thinner and not so long ago hopefully I can finish the rest of the project (about 40 more feet) using the same method and not getting splitting

Love your work, I wanted to build a gate \ shiplap. Can I make tongue and grove wood pickets or better to used caps and slide boards together? Thx

Thanks for the comment! I'm sure you could, I would look into either pressure treated or cedar T&G boards. Depending on the linear footage, routing T&G boards would be a lot of work. If it's your fence, not as big of a deal, but most customers don't want to spend that much on a fence, do board on board is a great option. (Requires about 1/3 more pickets)

Do you ever encounter these board on board fences not withstanding high winds like a fence with gaps would?
@BigJakester Жыл бұрын
We have not. Our area doesn't get very powerful winds. I believe a Board on Board fence would have about the same drag as a Charleston or Dog Ear, if high winds is a concern I'd recommend a Shadowbox fence, even with minimal spacing it will allow the air to pass through. Thanks for the comment!

We get high winds in the texas panhandle For board on board fencing it’s a necessity to build with schedule 40 metal posts and set 3’ deep
