80 pellets means it was likely birdshot - which would also explain why Ned survived so long. I think it's also likely she was hit with the first salvo and didn't realize until she was hit the second time. That many pellets makes it sound like it was a double barreled shotgun with both barrels fired twice. Incredible that she survived and very sad that Ned passed away from what were likely treatable wounds.

Should they? You don't care if they live or die; they would say westerners hesitated to kill them whenever it might profit them a nickel. And while I agree the institutional culture is bad- their attitude towards their own people wouldn't be much different they would think "play stupid games, win stupid prizes". On the other hand, if they HAD hired a local guide (which they DIDN'T, if you'd listened to the video) surely he would have been to tell them where not to camp...

If Suzie had 80 wounds from a partial blast, then it would most certainly be birdshot as opposed to buckshot. Buckshot at very most has 56 per shell. It also would make sense that they would be able to hang on for as long as they did if they were heavier birdshot rounds which wouldn’t penetrate very deeply into organs or bone but cause extensive bleeding
@Nathanm7977 Жыл бұрын

17:43 - Buckshot is _big_ and there are usually only about 10 pellets per shell so I was dubious at first based on how long it took him to die but now I'm _sure_ it was birdshot otherwise she would have to have been shot nearly 10 times for those details to be true...
@gnarthdarkanen7464 Жыл бұрын
Sucks given how simple shotguns (and pretty much all firearms in general) really are, we have to continue to look over the utter lack of technical detail when things like this get shown or told... I don't completely fault the storyteller, since the details tend to get screwed up nearly hopelessly in every record before they get a hold of it, and that makes it difficult for the untrained and inexperienced to research and fact-check, since even if it was birdshot, there are several "grades" of birdshot that could've done it... AND of course, without confirming ALL the facts, nobody's willing to try to "fix" even a few of them... AND of course, then we get to the whole kettle of worms about "It's just a damn gun... no need in advertising or glamorizing it as technical" when the problem was NEVER the gun, but the idiot holding it. ;o)

Wow. Imagine laying silently, alone in your tent, just you and your significant other, in the middle of the pitch-black night... right on the cusp of drifting off to sleep on an ice-covered glacier in the middle of a mountain pass cutting through a valley in one of the most remote locations on the entire planet... when suddenly, out of nowhere, a bone-rattling shotgun blast rips through the fabric of your tent and straight into your partner. It wasnt buckshot, it was likely a shot called shot #7 or 8 from the sound of the wounds. Buckshot normally has about 9 pellets so for jer to have 80 wounds from only beomg stuck once or twice would likely be a #8 shot or something similar normally called "birdshot" but birdshot can be very deadly aswell. @mattdelarosa6819 Жыл бұрын
Yeah that was my thought too, ain’t no way it was buckshot. No freakin way lmao. Bird shot is much more likely
@gnarthdarkanen7464 Жыл бұрын
A LITTLE more to buckshot than "you get 9 pellet in a shell"... That's the usual #00 and #000 buck... #1 comes with 12 - 16 pellets, though a tad less popular, and up to #4 is still considered buckshot, with 21 - 28 pellets depending on the company, velocity, etc... That still won't put 80 pieces of shot into someone with only catching a partial pattern blast from outside a tent, and she (according to the story) shared the blast with him at the time, more getting peppered than direct-fire. SO whatever they had, those guys were pumping bird-shot or rat-shot at these two, plain and simple. It's probably due to lack of availability or affordability for ammunition, probably too busy shooting at each other's neighbors to bother stocking up or investing in the skills and equipment to load their own properly... so we get this. ;o)
