I find it hilarious that seconds after you say 'I don't think anything important is going to be on that tape' it immediately reveals the Ice King's whole backstory. Show drops biggest unexpected lore bomb in tv history.

Ice King has to be one of the most tragic characters in any cartoon. The more we learn about his backstory the more interesting it becomes. The last tape was always a huge bombshell, it honestly changed the course of the show. I can’t wait for them to reach the later episodes where his connections with certain characters are explored, it’s really some of the best the show has to offer.

It's not a spoiler but he says "Betty my princess maybe you could love me again" I think that to some correlation with and or the reason why he captures princesses also the crown made him go crazy but it also kept him alive.

They werent married by the way, Betty was his fiancée... they were going to get married but alas... the crown happened (and if it didn't, the Mushroom War would have) Love how this episode completely changes how you see the Ice King looking back and going forward, not just for the audience but the characters too (since you guys are in like s5 onward, i can point out Finn first refers to IK as Simon in Beyond This Earthly Realm). Think about the tapes from Finn's perspective, he just saw a member of his own race go insane; this crazy old man that's been bothering him used to be just like him; he's now one of the only other humans he knows exists... and he's too far gone to even know who he used to be.

It’s a bit early but Merry Christmas & here is a present 🎁 of some surprising information about our favorite character the Ice King aka Simon Petrikov - The title design & outline of the title references to A Charlie Brown Christmas - What happens to Ice King is similar to Gollum from the Lord of the Rings franchise while also having some also from Mr.Freeze from Batman - When Finn says "What does it mean?" Is a reference to Jack Skellington from the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas - Notice when Ice King enters the tree there is a poster which seem to be a man wearing a badge similar the ones in the Star Trek series

This is IT. This isn't the BIGGEST episode in terms of things that will COMPLETELY recontextualize everything about Ice King... but this is the start of it. This is the part where he went from being a comedic villain to a tragic figure. MORE OF IT IS COMING. I WISH TO FEAST UPON YOUR HORROR AS YOU SEE IT. So as you might guess its less that Ice King is actually an incel but, because of the curse destroying his mind, he doesn't remember anything. He CAN'T remember who he was or why he wants things anymore; he's just lonely and stripped of all impulse control and restraint. So he doesn't understand that his obsession with princesses is him badly missing a fiance he used to call his princess; he doesn't remember her. He doesn't remember ANYTHING, not that he used to be human or how he wound up this way or his own name. There's a REASON people often compare the curse of the ice crown to dementia. You'll see why as you go on.

This is when you start to really love Ice King. His layers and past flesh him out as a deep and important character, and along with Finn and Jake, gained some empathy for this old man. His behavior as Ice King is still problematic, but he has come so far from just “finn” main villain as he was first shown as. He is an integral part of this show.

On the 1 hand I'm sad I won't get to see ur reactions to s3ep15-18, as there were quite a few interesting and important episodes among them. I absolutely loved this lore drop as a kid, up until that point ice king was just the wacky creepy kidnapper who had a screw loose and coulsnt understand social cues, and the instant i saw this episode it completely changed how i viewed ice king.
