I am relatively new to fountain pens (1.5 years) and I enjoyed your list of pen and ink mates.😊 There is something romantic about ink bottles when ink runs low and you can see the glass with the hint of colour. So pretty and brings back memories of inking up pens with a beloved ink.

Two of my favourite inks are the Diamine Ancient Copper and the Diamine Sepia. The Sepia is not a colour I would have thought I'd like but I got a free sample. It works well with my TWSBI 580 ALR with medium nib. I also use the Diamine Gray for shading with my dip pens. As an aside I love how you write in your notebooks. I'm going to try that orientation.

In my TWSBI mini rose gold, I have Ferris Wheel Press' Oyster Hour. I never intended that ink to be it's 'ink mate' and in fact, I never even bought that ink! I was trying to purchase the ink color 'Steeped Umber' but there was a mixup with the packaging and lo and behold, the bottle was actually filled with Oyster Hour. I reached out to the site I purchased the ink from and they said, 'Oh, no problem! We will send you the correct ink!' It was very nice of them, but, to no fault of their own, when I got that second bottle... it was Oyster Hour labeled as Steeped Umber again! At first I was pretty upset. At that point, Steeped Umber was no longer available. The first pen I tried the ink in was my Procyon, which has lightened and thinned every ink I've put in it. It wasn't even readable. But, when I tried it in my TWSBI, I fell in love. There's something about the quality of the ink, how it goes on wet and how it dries--the texture and shading it leaves on the page like a ring of tea from the bottom of a mug--well, I fell in love with it. Steeped Umber has since been restocked and I have a bottle of it now, but I think my TWSBI will keep Oyster Hour in it.

I didn’t connect with the idea of a pen and ink pairing until I received my Pilot Custom 823, in Smoke. I can’t bear to ink it with anything but Diamine Earl Grey. And I love your Parker Quink and Balance match. I recently went down a rabbit hole of reading about vintage pen-safe inks for my tiny collection of vintage Sheaffers, and Parker Quink was one of the recommended. I was surprised that so many modern inks, like Pilot Iroshizuku, are considered too alkaline for vintage pens. This was lovely. Thank you you for creating and sharing it.

Ink bottles are so beautiful.💗 Writing is becoming a lost art form due to the digital wave and I'm so glad there are people in the world like you who are trying to keep it alive. Writing is the only thing in this world that is beyond the social constructs we put upon ourselves and makes us able to relate to and be equal no matter the circumstances. We share a voice and it needs to be protected. Old, young/ rich,poor/ despite race, religion, or orientation writing unites and allows us to understand each other. Thank you for sharing your pairings.🥰 I might need to start adding some vintage tools to my pen obsession. 😉

I love those same Diamine inks, but have the Ancient Copper in my Homo Sapiens Bronze Age, and the Oxblood in a Waterman's Red Ripple 52v with a blue flex nib. Your warm, Earthy color palate suggests -- if you haven't already tried it -- that you might love Diamine's "Autumn Oak," which is a shading MONSTER. It'd shade even with your fine-line, diminutive and uber-feminine writing style. I have the Autumn Oak in an Esterbrook Jr. ("Pumpkin Latte") with a stub nib, and its a window on a fanciful, 19th Century world. Thank you, Alicia, for all the fun and warmth you radiate.

Well, if you give someone a fountain pen, they might need some ink, so taking a 1/2 bottle of Diamine or Noodlers, Pilot's Iroshizuku, and/or some Monteverde Noir inks (my goto inks 🙂), you might find you can actually empty a bottle... . Of course, you might need to purchase a few empty bottles to put the ink in. I like the empty Caran d'Ache bottles. The mouth of the bottles are at an angle, and the caps are really heavy. Really cool IMO. The full bottles of ink are pricey, and I can't say I've every purchased a new bottle of Caran d'Ache bottles with ink... . 🙂 @@csikomas8910

Couple of comments and maybe a question or two..... I really enjoy the content that you provide. Very informative and clear. I recently viewed your video covering the various nib sizes on the Kaweco's. As I'm considering purchasing one of these; you really saved me from purchasing the wrong size nib....fine is the way to go (at least for me). The one aspect that I enjoy most in your videos is your handwritting. To my eye, it is the best I've seen on this platform. The height (size) angle, flow; all excellent. Thus my question(s): Is that your natural hand that you developed over time? Have you studied, practiced other forms; say Spencer, Palmer, Zaner, etc.? I'm getting back into writing curvise. 30+ years in the architectural fields has produced many, many miles of block printing, italic block, etc, etc.. I've researched, tried to remember what style I was taught in school. Honestly, it seems like a combination of styles. There is something about your writing that just resonates with me. Any information, guidance you could say would be very appreciated. Thank you.

How nice to find another pen/ink enthusiast whose combos don't change. I have 8 pens currently inked and I have chosen to pair ink colors to similar pen colors. I love color, so it makes sense I started this way. Currently I am in the process of trying out purple inks in a purple Sailor pen. When I get to the end of my samples I'll buy a whole bottle. I love the color of J Herbin "emeraude du chivor." Luckily their "bleu austral" seems to be the same color without shimmer, so I don't worry about clogging. It has always been in my teal Pilot Custon 74 . I love how this ink shades, but the Pilot nib is a bit thick. I tried the ink in a Sailor Pro Gear and it doesn't shade as well. Perhaps it's the slightly finer aspect of the Sailor nib? In September I plan to take a trip to NYC, where I hope to test out some different pens in shops there. I've been hesitant to buy a pen without trying, hence just Pilot & Sailor.

I have only one pen/ink combo that doesn't change; an extremely water mains firehose Waterman's Taperite I use for iron gall ink. (I have several, all blue-black, and very similar, from the unidentified date Dickson's, 1940s Parker Quink and Waterman's through Diamine Registrar's Ink.) I tend to be more about the variety of writing experiences than pairing. I have quite a few vintage pens, so there's certain inks I'll not use with them. But I also have a number of cheaper ones that I can use with impunity.😁 I do try, with my vintage Esterbrook pens, to pair the pen color with the ink color (unless I use it daily, sometimes more, i forget what is in them.) But the multiple black ones? Anything I feel safe with putting in them. Some, it might be the same brand. I regularly use Parker Quink microfilm black in my black Parker 51 Vacumatic, for example.
@paulherman5822 Жыл бұрын
I also have a range of inks. From possibly the 1930s (the aforementioned Dickson's), through every color of Parker Quink from the 1940s, still working on both vintage Sheaffer's Skrip and Waterman's (I have a bottle of the "unobtanium" Sheaffer's Skrip Peacock Blue, which was easier to find than Parker Quink washable blue, for unknown reasons), through modern inks like Noodler's and Diamine. Got the vintage inks to compare to more modern brands, and have fell in love with several vintage inks that they really need to bring back. The Parker Quink browns, especially. Also, gotten to put Noodler's up against the brand (Sheaffer's Skrip) Nathan Tardif claims as inspiration for his Warden series. Other than the total permanence, Sheaffer's won, IMO. Recoverable ("RC-35" fluoresces under black light, even if the rest is gone), much better behaved on the paper used for checks and other things you may want forgery resistance than any of the Warden series, in my experience. Other than no RC-35 today in them, other than a fortunate color change of the brown (original was unfortunate. More a sickly greenish brown, reminds me of changing the first diaper after a little kid ate spinach for the first time... Modern is a definite improvement) and dye change due to availability, it's still the same as the vintage. One of the best things about these is they have not really changed over the decades. Modern Parker's limited palette is the same as the original version. Same as Waterman's (no real difference between Serenity Blue and washable blue, for example) and Sheaffer inks made in Slovenia today.
@redmoonvenus7327 Жыл бұрын
I love the Stone Road of Gion ink too ! I understand your reluctance to finish a bottle. But, I would personnaly try and appreciate the inks up to the last drop..... Because from my expérience, a low quantity of ink left in a bottle doesnt keep well. Its like a leftover half-inch of perfume in a vial, or a small quantity of wine left over in a bottle.... That doesnt keep well because there is too large a space for air in the empty space in the bottle, so the ink/perfume/wine will oxydate fast. Also they can evaporate too. So I believe its better to just use it. Otherwise you run the risk of trying to save something, and later realise that the precious leftover has turned Bad......

Pen/ink pairs can be so satisfying. For me it is mostly about finding the right flowing ink with the right flowing pen. I have a pen where I tried Octopus Green Squirrel but it just dries up after half a page so I am now trying Diamine steel blue which is a wetter ink to see if that works. And I just got a new Stabilo Flow sporty where I put the cartridge it came in in, but it is a wet pen so I am hoping that will be the right pen for the green squirrel. Oxblood is one of my faves too, and I do have a few similar colors with the latest addition being "Writer's Blood". I agree with trying out new colors but I did buy an 80ml bottle of my main ink (Diamine Steel Blue) it just makes me so happy. I also tend to add it to other colors at the end of the cartridge to see what happens with that color and it transitioning close to the steel blue.

@adventuredenali Жыл бұрын
Maybe there’s more to it? Some perceived magical moment? I don’t know. For me, I like the ink flow and the fountain pen flow to be just right. Not too wet, not too dry - much like a Goldilocks situation. I also like considering the ink and pen colors together, but not directly matching - more of a what ink color compliments the pen’s color.

Modern Quink inks are acidic and not PH neutral, won’t matter for the nib as gold doesn’t corrode, but if sacs get dried and ink gets spilled, it can affect metal parts in the body. A safer option is sheaffer skrip, Herbin Perle Noir, Waterman Intense Black or Aurora Black.

I have found that I really dislike the Lamy steel nibs (on the safari and al star), but I recently got a 14k replacement and it is absolutely gorgeous. If you ever get a chance to pick one up and try it on your lamy, maybe you’ll fall in love with that pen again?

Love your videos. ❤ That leather blotter that you held up to hide your journal- do you know where to buy those? I have one that I got with a Galen notebook and I love it, but can’t find a replacement. 😢 TIA

Hello and thank you! The blotter is one I also got with a Galen notebook. You can buy paper blotters at Jetpens though!

Hi, I really enjoyed your shown pens and inks. I'm new to your channel and "higher end pens" (atm using a new Lamy AL-star fine with Faber Castell ink in rubian red). What of your videos can you recommend for me, as a beginner in pen and inks? 😊

Hello there, I am completely new to this hobby and when I bought my first notebook , it came with a a piece of leather I believe it is, like the one you show in your video, can you tell me what is this for? Because I have been trying to figure it out to no avail. Thank you much and I really love your channel.
@adventuredenali4 ай бұрын
@@cc7cc10 hello! It is used as a blotting sheet. Fountain pens lay down a lot of ink and sometimes it takes some time to dry. So, if you’re about to turn your journal page, put in the blotter so that it absorbs the ink, rather than the page in front of it.

Just ran into your channel and I really like your journaling/ ink / pens content. That being said, what fountain pen would you recommend as a step up from a Kaweko sport Brass? Thanks.

This is my first video of yours and I love it. I have one permanent combo, a Diplomat Magnum ef in Prismatic Purple with Organic Studios Nitrogen. This will be the only ink in this pen will know while with me. My Sailor 1911 f in Night cherry blossom is in a committed relationship with Van Dieman's Aurora Australis for a while. Not yet sure if it is permanent, time will tell

Have you had any problems with skipping or clogging with the Parker Quink black ink? I keep reading from others about such instances and so I've hesitated getting a bottle, although I would like to try it in my Parker Vacumatics from the 1930s. Thank you for any input.
@adventuredenali Жыл бұрын
Hello! I haven’t had that experience at all. I’ve enjoyed the ink quite a bit. Enjoy your pens!
@DaleHanks-x1c Жыл бұрын
@@adventuredenali Thank you. I think I will give Parker Quink black ink a try, then. And I think you would enjoy 1930s (pre-WWII) Parker Vacumatics, especially those with Fine or Extra-Fine nibs. They are great writers and the pens are beautiful.

I really enjoy your content😊. May I ask, what is it about the Lamy LX that you don't like? Because I was thinking of getting this exact pen. Greetings from the Netherlands 🤗
@adventuredenali Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I think the LX is a great pen. It’s consistent, solidly built and writes well. For me, it’s just a personality thing, as if the pen and I don’t have good chemistry, haha.

Yes, that Prussian Blue is a beautiful ink, but did the angels really start singing, really? I write with it all the time, and the best response I can get is my neighbor's dog barking in the backyard.

I recently acquired a bottle of Ina Ho from overseas and put it in my Pilot Custom 823 with a Broad nib. And now I don’t want to put anything else in it. And I also don’t want to keep it permanently inked, because once my bottle is used up, it’s gone. Maybe I’ll try Yamabukiiro to see if I can break my habit.
