At 3.18 you are point to what was once called a bridging plate, which in WW2 was yellow painted, during that time most bridges had sentries which knew the capacity of the bridge. When the vehicle approached the sentry would read the plate and in your case see that you were 23 tons vehicle plus cargo weight. If the bridge could hold the weight you would be allowed to cross. If were to flip the top plate holding the numbers on you may see a red letter "C" denoting combination i.e. your vehicle usually towed a trailer and same again the numbers would be total truck & trailer & cargo weight. Some also say this is a convoy plate meaning you are vehicle # 23 in the convoy. Cheers !!

Hi Kande, Thanks Seth for the walk around, I have been thinking of an LMTV for a while, I believe your videos pretty much solidified it, I have some good research on lockers and regearing the trucks for higher top speed and traction. Some day I would like to talk and exchange ideas. Missed you at Rebelle this year. Talk soon. Andrew (Rescue 3)

Hello Andrew, missed you also, wish I could have been at the rally, maybe next year. Yes we love Brutus and are working on him now, we are also looking into gears and a locker, can't wait to finish him :)

The wet tank is ware the air goes 1st to separate water from the air before going to the other tanks, air separators don't always get all the water out of the air or oil from the pump

Finding your video is very timely. I am about to build out a Mitsubishi Fuso box truck. But now I know about the Stewey and Steve and I might go that route! I’m currently looking a flat bed version. I would remove the bed and build my own box. I have a few questions if you can help. -what’s the comfortable highway cruising speed? -highway fuel mileage -have you been able to find parts/ reasonable prices? Love your light bars... Ryan
@joelwilkins86956 жыл бұрын
not sure if you said all this is a previous video but what are the technical specs of the truck? Engine make and model? HP? transmission make and gears? how reliable has it been? are parts relatively easy to come by? what kind of fuel mileage? I'm looking for an overland truck chassis and this one is certainly interesting. Looks like it'd go pretty much anywhere.

This is a 1994 Stewart & Stevenson LMTV M1079 with a 3116 CAT engine. 7 speed Alison transmission with stock gears. Brutus has been mostly reliable for us but, we have heard horror stories out of trucks just like him. Parts are elusive at times. MPG 6.5ish. It is surprising where it can go. We have done about a year worth of very detailed & sometimes quite difficult work on the mechanics of Brutus. We will be driving it up to Montana for the rest of the work to be done that is over our head or large specialty tools are necessary to finish getting Brutus reliable for long distance travel.The place we are taking it is called FMTV Truck Sales where they are LMTV experts. FMTV Truck Sales refurbishes LMTVs from the frame up, mechanical, computer, interior & exterior. If you are thinking of getting an LMTV we would highly suggest at least contacting FMTV Truck Sales before you make any decisions. Have fun on your adventures!

Hi Seth, Thanks for the walk around and the detailed info. Can you please list the make/model of the updated air dryer you used? Thanks to you I am the new owner of a M1088 and would like to do the same upgrade. Any info and help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

What did you do to quiet down the interior of the cab? I know these LMTVs are extremely loud inside, especially at highway speeds.
@Adventuredriven7 жыл бұрын
Kande insulated the fire out of it, it is pretty quiet now
@kojakdurham7 жыл бұрын
That's cool. I did some brief looking, but didn't find any video that was recorded inside the cab while you were driving around to gauge what the noise level was like. Also, are you going to do another walkthrough in the 'camper' portion? I know that Kande did one a while back, but I'd love to see any adds/changes you've made.
@Adventuredriven7 жыл бұрын
We have been working so much on our Ford getting it finished we have put Brutus on the back burner. We will get back to work on him this winter. We have not done much in the camper yet, we will make a driving video also to show the level of noise.

We learned some tricks to change the tires, I got my air dryer from Superman on Steel Soldiers forum , he has them in stock

Fabulous looking vehicle, would love to spend an afternoon driving one, but looks like you need to be a young mechanic to work on one, not taking to a neighborhood mechanic.
