Level 8-3 was truly the devils section. After three days of trying (which meant leaving the NES on for three days straight), my friend and I eventually beat the section through a method where I held the controller and managed the D Pad and my friend pushed the jump and fire button. When we beat that last section of 8-3 it was pretty triumphant.

Great stuff as always! For future reference, 株式会社ウエストン "Westone" is pronounced like the combination of West+Stone (so the more frequent "weston" would be close) . The company was created by Mr. Nishizawa (西澤) and Ishizuka (石塚). 西 Nishi = West 石 Ishi = Stone 西+石 West+Stone = Westone A few western games websites improperly started writing the company WestOne but this came from a wrong assumption on their part on the meaning and reading of the name.

I can't even begin to imagine how much practice it must have taken to get this good at Adventure Island, you had every last detail of this game broken down to a science in this playthrough, i didn't even know it was possible to get through some of those spider sections without a weapon, i had always assumed if you lose your weapon the game is basically over in certain sections, this was very impressive.

Great video with detailed layout of every stage. Normally the easiest way to clear this game is to not lose your weapon, but you explained weaponless run too. I wish I saw this video sooner. You actually talk! Since starting to watch these I've had many more suggested to me. There are all good in their own way, but they are silent. They don't give you any commentary on strategy or anything. I really like what you are doing and enjoy all of your videos even if I don't care much for the game.

Loved playing the Wonder Boy arcade game growing up. When I saw this game come out on the Nes, I knew I had to have it. I made it to the last level but died. After that, it's almost impossible to get a hammer because the spiders are hard to avoid. Needless to say, I never beat it. I'm not done watching the video, but did you mention that you can find hidden eggs by constantly throwing your hammer? If it vanishes before it hits the ground, that means you're hitting an egg.

Now this is impressive. Adventure Island is one of the low-key hardest platformers/games on the NES.
@iami3rian3942 жыл бұрын
Listen, I know you think saying low key makes you cool,... But it means that no one else knows it. There's nothing "low key" about the difficulty of this game, it's widely accepted as one of the top five hardest on the system. Much like "literally" "low key" doesn't mean you're cool when you say it, nor does it mean the exact opposite of what it means, simply because you kids can't fathom the definition. Everyone knows this game is tough as nails. There's nothing low key difficult about it. It's just difficult. Saying "low key" doesn't make you cool, either. Especially when you say it like a dope.

About the area 7 boss, I'm pretty sure that's meant to be a kappa, which is a Japanese yokai that has a sort of dish on top of their head and a bird like beak. A kappa loses its power if it doesn't have water in the dish, and typically a way to defeat them is by tricking them into bowing to you.
@rodneylives2 жыл бұрын
One thing I've seen mentioned in very few places is that there's a tell if there's a hidden egg somewhere. If you're firing projectiles and they disappear early, before they hit the ground, it meets they stuck an invisible egg. Try jumping around the spot where they vanish.

Love your content. I would love to see you tackle some Sega Master System games like the brutally hard Alex Kidd in Miracle World, and the great but puzzling Wonder Boy II & III. Having an SMS as a kid, these kind of games always seemed a bit less accessible than the Nintendo games, simply because there was no Nintendo Power equivalent, and no other game magazines seemed to cover the SMS. I think I ended up finishing more NES games as a kid than I did Sega games, simply because the SMS was so mysterious and opaque in the logic of the game programming.
