Episode 66
Is The Simpsons: Bart Vs. The World the best Simpsons game for the NES? After the massive success of the first game, Bart Vs. the Space Mutants, publisher Acclaim Entertainment knew they had to do a sequel. The game may look similar at first glance, but this time the levels are much bigger, and have more vertical elements to them!
That's not the only improvement they had in store for the sequel. This time Bart will be traveling around the world, which adds some spice and variety to the gameplay. Exploration is even more important this time, because not only are the levels larger, but they also contain hidden items that can unlock a secret bonus level, and the game's true ending! This kind of thing is fairly common in modern times, but in the 1990's, it was super rare!
So how did this game get made? In today's episode we'll find out, and then we'll dive deep into the gameplay where we'll learn:
* How to beat EVERY LEVEL - China, The North Pole, Egypt, and Hollywood - they're all here!
* Where to find ALL of the UNIQUE KRUSTY COLLECTABLES!
* How to perform the most DIFFICULT JUMPS easily!
* Where to get TONS of EXTRA LIVES!
* How to unlock the SECRET BONUS LEVEL - Hollywood Soundstage 3!
* The best strategies for defeating EVERY BOSS, even Eric Von Burns... AND MORE!
Thanks for watching!

These NES Simpsons games were so mediocre. The bizarre controls really held them back but I absolutely know that feeling. I’ve played my share of shitty games because it was all I had or made a bad weekend rental decision (defender of the crown anyone?).

@@mikemccann978 Then the SNES era came in and we had more terrible Simpsons games like Bart's Nightmare and Virtual Bart. It's a shame we never got a port of the Simpsons Arcade Game to consoles back then (Yes, I know about the PC ports).

@@ravager48 totally agree. They absolutely could have made it happen too. Look how good the SNES Turtles in Time and Sunset Riders ports were! Instead we get Barts Nightmare and that other one where I think you played as Krusty? I can’t quite remember. That arcade game was sadly the pinnacle of Simpsons games. Road Rage and Simpsons Game are both fun too but nothing I’ve personally cared to repeat after the one time through. The Simpsons deserve better, damn it! Lol

When I was about 8 years old I was completely stuck at the part where you jump on the bubble in the cave. I tried it for days, then one night I had a dream where I waited until the bubble was at its largest to jump on it and it worked in my dream. I was so excited to try it in the game for real, and it turned out to be the solution. I'm still amazed at how my dreaming mind found the solution and it's led me to respect dreaming quite a bit.

Thank You for making these Videos. You are the New Nintendo Power for me. Back in the day, we all had friends who could Beat Video Games, or all of us would find our own little pieces of a game that we were good at, and collectively put all of our knowledge and experience together to Beat Games, sometimes passing the controller off to the person who was good at a certain part to get by it. By watching someone else play, getting tips from others on the playground or on the Bus on the way home from school, and Obviously using a Nintendo Power( Bought, Begged, Stolen, or Borrowed, and Sometimes even Photocopied), all of these little Tips and Hints made playing these games even more enjoyable. Thank You for all of Your research, dedication, and Humor to make Me feel like I am a 8 year old kid trying to beat Super Mario 2 with my Brother and Cousins and friends Watching and Waiting for their turn to Play. You are on the Couch right there Beside us Now, and You feel like a New Old Friend. Keep up the Great Work, and say Hello to your Doggo For Us! Sincerely, Bruce Cirksena!!!!!!!

I could swear when I played this game in 2001, it asked trivia questions relating to episodes that came out _after_ 1991. More likely it's just that some characters or in-universe facts in the first couple seasons were a lot less prominent and memorable at the time, then reintroduced with more prominence later.

This game and the preceding Bart Vs. The Space Mutants took place during the second season when the show had more heart. Homer got fired in the first season and almost committed s****** before becoming safety inspector in Season 1. The idea behind the game was to do away with the whole family solely because accidents have risen exponentially since Homer started at the plant. This game was also the answer to how Burns and Smithers were the villains in the arcade game and how we weren't getting an NES port of said game like we did with Ninja Turtles etc. Let's even talk about the ending.

I believe that this game takes major inspiration from Bart Simpson's Escape From Camp Deadly, a Game Boy game also made by Absolute Entertainment. That game had a lot of climbing, collectible projectiles, power-ups that grant temporary abilities to Bart, an adventurous non-urban setting, Bart's health shown as a number of circles that is increased by food and decreased by injuries, many helpful appearances by Lisa, and a villain who is a relative of Mr. Burns.

I love how Pokemon Blue is in the SNES. I salivated over being able to play it on the T.V. I never got to, but boy was it amazing to imagine it. Team Vulpix for life.

As a kid I always wanted to go fast on the skateboard part of the wall of china, so that's usually where I got game overs.

Seeing those thin green cave platforms gave me PTSD flashbacks lol. Only part of the game I remember.

I so loved this game. I rented it several times but sadly was unable to buy it even though I had Space Mutants. I wanted more for the “perfect ending” but I loved the pie throwing.

Finding hidden items to unlock additional content might be a bit more common nowadays. That being said, I wish it were the standard. Unfortunately, paying to unlock additional content is the norm. "Here's half the game. The rest can be unlocked for $39.99, even though it's already on the disc." Remember when Legend of Zelda gave you an entire new game? Or how about Castlevania Symphony of the Night?
