I think it's only fair either one of these guys comes and lives at my place on the mainland for a few weeks and I'll take over their boat. They can deal with my crazy neighbors with their dogs barking all day and crapping on my law all night, not to mention their ever playing rap music and non stop fighting. In exchange I promise to keep their batteries charged up and scrape the bottom of the boat. let me know / thanks

Props to this guy for following his dream but goodness, that is a ROUGH boat. Prioritizing a TV and video games over the actual base level maintenance that this boat requires is truly a fascinating mismanagement of priorities. I'm trying my best to look past the rotting concrete, rust, and other critical areas that needs to be addressed. But you know what? Good for him for living his best life - he seems to not take life too seriously and we should all take a moment to be less serious on the daily. But maintaining this life means putting a modicum of effort to make sure he can continue having a view of those islands instead of having the same view Dan has when he's spear fishing because that is one sinking boat. Cool dude though. Fun interview. Lots of space inside the boat. Really fascinating challenge he put forward for himself. Hopefully he can get that upgraded boat he wants so he can continue his adventure above the waterline. Love his passion for wanting to learn more and explore. Fair winds, Captain Sparrow and Adventureman Dan.

@Dawgmeatt not sure I'm tracking - I watched the full video, and around every bend, Dan emphasized the condition of this boat falling to pieces - it's clearly a boat that has been a victim of gross negligence. I personally think its amazing what this guy has accomplished and how well he's doing for himself, all things considered, but this boat needs a lot of structural and aesthetic TLC. Literally wishing him well and hoping he can upgrade to what he wants, considering he's working for it. But let's not pretend like this boat isn't in incredibly rough shape and needs some important, prioritized fixes if he intends to keep living this lifestyle.
@jameslackey8683
@jameslackey8683 Ай бұрын
As he said in the beginning of the video, the previous owner had neglected it, and once this type of boat starts to get in the condition, there's NOTHING you can do to stop it. Keep some epoxy paint on it and try to slow it down, but it's slowly rotting. So he's just getting out of it what he can, while he can, then I'm sure he will have a plan for the next move.

Blake prioritizes living life to the fullest, not material possessions. He still get's great use out of his boat, has his friends over, and overall has a great quality of life. Blake does life very different from me. But I'm still focused on taking notes from him. Dude's super happy, and will look back on a life filled with memories, not regrets. :)

Coming from owning a successful hardwood floor refinishing business for 17yrs here in Michigan I’m ready to learn the sails and live the next 20years on doing away from this race. Not saying I haven’t lived bc I definitely have but sailing has been a big thought over the past few years. Keep it real guys 🤙

Outstanding, Blake. You are an epic adventurer. And please don't let these maintenance nancys get you down about your boat. Having owned several...elderly?...boats and automobiles there comes a time when literally no amount of work will make them great but they still have life left in them. I think you're doing it exactly right. When the time comes a new boat will become available, and until then the one you have is better than the one you don't.

That was a really good episode even if you don't want a similar boat it was cool to hear the story of a guy who just got out there....maybe almost died...but didn't and in doing so discovered this new life....I would like to know more in these videos how people cope w different resources...for example how do folks manage w no refrigerator or ac...and how do they live and what challenges they overcome.... For example...I want to know how that guy eats when he can't put food in a fridge? Great work...no need to criticize anyone's boat....just celebrate boats that float and sail!

I'm pretty sure those boards are supposed to be partly raised up but still in their holding tracks and a rope holding them up attached to that center hand hole and then onto the shelving behind or the trim above. not sure which makes the most sense.... they are there to stop a sleeping person from rolling off the couch while the boats rolling in the waves.

Loved that Blake is keeping it real with the TV and gaming. Hope to see your paths cross often. Not sure what Blakes boat is called but I guess we all know it as ‘the sinking boat’ now. Its a great pity that they didnt build concrete boats with Basalt mesh and rebar it would save tons of wt be stronger and could be built thinner as the basalt doesnt react with salt water and doesnt corrode...also being made from Rock it expands and contracts at the same rate as the concrete. ..its almost immune to any temperature extremes. There are other channels out there with concrete hulls and one Huge one in the UK thats being completely restored and reffited. From memory its a 65 or 75ft ketch rigged yatch. The same mass that keeps the boat cool in the heat can also keep it warm.. an insulated boat is an energy efficient boat. 🧙🏻‍♂️😉🇬🇧 Kleening the hull off would add at least a couple of knots of speed .. The other thing is that boat is going to be stable at anchor and under way in a swell quiet.... when pounding and will mush all but the largest waves ...its a steam roller.

A "concrete" boat, oh my goodness. Back in the 1970s they were all the rage because they were "simple" to build. I remember when I had my own boat (a trimaran) in Darwin, I beached it on the day of the year's highest tide, which in fact also meant you had to wait for a whole year before you could get back into the water! Which was OK because I had some serious work to do. But I remember being surrounded by cement boats under construction. Just get the wire frame together and slap the cement on. Bob's your uncle. Of course there was more to it than that, but it sure was popular. Main worry you always have with a concrete boat is that if you hit something hard enough the cement may crumble very rapidly, sort of "dissolving" in the water. I don't know if this inherent problem is the reason why you don't really see them very often any more.

@@Adventureman_Dan Oh, Darwin takes some getting used to. It's not a small place but nevertheless a "frontier town" in every sense of the word. Tropical, cyclones always on the prowl, huge humidity (which is why I always thought building cement boats in Darwin wasn't a good idea because curing in high-humidity conditions is always a challenge). Darwin also has 20ft-plus tides and you find yourself forever struggling to deal with that. Once I went into town and chose to tie my dinghy up under a steel landing ladder at the main wharf. The dinghy got trapped as the tide came in, and when I came back it had filled up with water and was lying on the bottom of the harbour. A fun day. Today, "enjoying" old age, I haven't seen Darwin in 30 years, but I have fond memories!
