Great video, Daniel! I loved getting to see parts of my life from your unique perspective. Thank you soo much for documenting my boat projects, journey & struggles! It HAS been an isolating experience on my own and as the only woman in this boatyard for the past year (that I've seen). I really hope this video inspires more women out there to go it on their own, alone and make friends along the way (I really want some solo girl buddy boat friends 😊) Can't wait to see what adventures you get up to next!!!

Yup! I rescued a 22' Southcoast about two days away from being chewed up at the dump, thinking it would be a lot less expensive than buying one. It most probably was not. Five years in and it's just going out since I got her floating again for the second time next week. It will be another year before her sails go up.

At 65, female, I built my own house. The funniest thing was people’s reactions. Took me 1.5 years while living in my van…It was so fun. Congratulations Nicole…women can do anything if they want and are willing. Apparently a lot of sailors are sailing 27’ boats around the world. Wind Hippie Sailing, there are several. No one expects women doing this work because not many women do this work. I also do mechanics and I always get weird reactions. People eventually respect you for it. Nicole sounds like a very experienced sailor.

Well done. Truth is many people of all ages and gender are doing the most amazing things and we never get to hear of it. They don't know how to film and edit and if they try it's very difficult to get noticed on an already over-cluttered yoututbe. Just do it for yourself, it's not important for others to see it, it's a great feeling for you to know that you can.

I've been watching Nicole's channel for a while now. She never fails to amaze me. It's been a struggle from start to finish, she's on her own, does everything on her own, hits seemingly insurmountable hurdles, has a little cry, pulls herself together, and moves on. She is relentless. When she eventually sets off on her "new old" boat, I fervently hope she will be able to "relax" and enjoy the lifestyle she's struggling so hard for to achieve. In fact I am a little mystified she doesn't have more followers (yet), she's definitely one of the more personable channels out there.

Amazing, I started sailing early in life on Uncle John's 37ft Crocker schooner. She was built by Ted McIntosh in Dover, NH as a family project. I was photographed in diapers playing in mahogany planning shavings as we faired her topsides. Then on to racing at the age of 7 in turnabouts. Graduate of Maine Maritime Academy where I raced collegiately. Employed in the US Merchant Marine Service for 35 years I spent countless months in both US Shipyards and Foreign, mostly Singapore and Korean, yet Dubai and Cape Town. Nicole demonstrates, throughout her channel a can do attitude, patients, and aptitude to get her rebuild process done. We all are very grateful for her channel and the knowledge received by her. This is an epic journey we all can enjoy. Thank you Daniel for including us on her extensive refit. The boat of Artha came out perfect.

I have been following Nicole for a while; she is a remarkable young woman. As for your question about other young women doing their own work - I've seen a far amount of women HELPING their mates work on boats, including my daughter who's spent the last three years helping rebuild a 52er, but I have never seen a woman doing nearly all of the work by themselves. By the way, I have a friend who finished out a BC 28 from a hull/deck kit and sailed it from Seattle to the tip of South America and back over a two year period. They are very seaworthy and good sailing boats but rather tight inside for big people. This boat, despite being in poor shape when she bought it, will be a huge upgrade over her old boat.

Nichole, I had found you and your channel not long after that huge change you went through and you were just seeming to get on that boat. At that time I didn't know what was upsetting you so this video has helped. All I had was suspicious and I tried to get help, not sure it came. Its so great to see that you were so successful. I've followed Dan but not for as long as I've followed you. I follow a lot of sailors and you can see by my playlists I'm trying to organize mostly topics for refit and or rebuild of sail boats. There's a ton of good info out on KZbin but its scattered all over the place. Best of luck in the Bahama's ! Dan, If there was someone who I thought could eventually become a solo female sailor (he new start) it would be Emily of Clark and Emily (or was it Emily and Clark) . She had even built a sailing Dingy ! You and Nichole may have run into here as I think she is in Luperon and has opened up a coffee shop. I realize this video was done a while ago so I hope you two see this comment. PS I'm a little worried about that Fever disease (I'd mess up the spelling) and I guess there's no vaccination or anything like that.

She seems to have the same can do free spirit that "Wind Hippie" has, and that girl has sailed over halfway around the world on her own. I wish her the best and will definitely check her channel out.

I am a girl me and my wife are currently doing the loop. Quite often people are surprised to see 2 lesbian sailors. With that said everybody has been quite nice and friendly. It's rather wonderful to see her refitting her boat. :-) :-)

Yes, it's true, you don't see that often. But the sailing community is incredibly open and welcoming to everyone. If you were from North Korea, other sailors would be shocked & surprised......... and then invite you up onto their boat for some snacks and chat you up about the sailing conditions above the 38 parallel! Hahaha I wish I could test this, but I'm 99% sure that's how it'd go. :)

Ahoy Dan! It was good to see you & the Chickadoo who can do. The saying: "i've put my Heart & Soul into it", seems to apply to her right? There's a little *Dynamo* who built a boat with her longtime squeeze, with both of them recently hauling their boat out & doing needed maintenance on it. Between her & Garrett, they've accomplished a lot, with trials & tribulations handled with aplomb. 🙏🦉

To answer your question, you may need to visit more boatyards. I suggest White Spot Pirates to see a women do everything on her boat. That said, Nicole is awesome!

Wonderful work. Wow. My wife and I did similar projects together. And that’s a lot of work with 2 people. We cruised for 26 yrs. Some good choices there. Looks like the windlass is a Simpson Lawrence 555. Slow but dependable. Love composing heads. And a Spade anchor would be an excellent choice. Better than Rockna.

Kiana Weltzien has rebuilt her own Wharram Pahi 42 and has solo sailed across the Atlantic multi times. You should interview her as well. I believe she's in the Brasil area at the moment? Her channels are kiana weltzien and Women & the Wind

Yes , Kiara is also amazing. Her boat is not a Pahi. It is a Narai mk1, 40 ft classic Wharram range design.
